Next Norfolk-Yarmouth Mini Meet 22nd September 2019
Stan replied to TimC's topic in Local Meets Across The UK
Cheers guys, thankfully it is just (!) an injection into my spine to try and get a herniated disc back into place... the trouble is that the nerve it presses on affects my right arm, so all being well I should be ok to drive, but we'll see! I do really wanna come to show the roadster off though Oh, and the weather here is shocking too, meant to clear up in a few days though! -

10th April. 1. Timc 2. Gumpy000 3.Maxevans95 4.Jimmy.Farrow7 5. Stan (But I am having a spinal injection a few days before so will see how I go as I may have a knackered arm!) -
Just like to resurrect this thread to say thanks for the advice and measuring etc - the first thing I did when I got my zed 2 weeks ago was go to halfords and get a new battery. Using your size measurements I researched online and went for the Yuasa HSB096 for £104. When I went to remove the old battery it was tiny in comparison! If I hadn't read this and just went from the recommended battery for my car, I would have ended up with another small battery, whereas now I have something that is up for the job!

Haha I guess I am a bit proactive in this respect! I was thinking more that with the nice weather coming up I might have a chance to put some solar panels on my garage and hook up a trickle charger and maybe even some LED lighting, it's always annoyed me not having power in my garage
-
Just thinking today about the upcoming winter. As the zed is my second car (as with my other cars) it stays in the garage over winter. However in the past I get the usual problems - brakes binding, battery going flat etc. I always forget to go out and start it and move it occasionally So in order to prepare for this winter I need some tips! Apart from setting a reminder on my phone to go out and start it (how many times? How long should I run it for?) is there anything else that people can suggest? Also, with regards to the battery - I have an en bloc garage so can't run power out to it. Does anyone know if those solar trickle chargers are any good? I have air bricks so can run the wires outside and it can get the sun ( ) all day if needed.

Introducing my new Zed - Fairlady Z Version Nismo 380RS
Stan replied to -G-'s topic in Member Build Projects
Wow that is a lovely car... I've never heard of a 380 so will go do some wikipediaing -
As far as I know my exhaust is stock but it is so loud! I have brought a throttle controller to hopefully keep it a bit quieter when leaving my garage - especially as I can sometime be called out in the middle of the night - don't think my neighbours would appreciate it either

Me and the missus don't want kids, and peoples reactions are hilarious! Like there must be something wrong with you for not wanting kids. I have 7 nieces and nephews and that is enough for me. We are very selfish (and admit it) and I'd rather go on holiday loads, spend loads on the car and not have to worry about dedicating my time to a child. I just don't understand how some people become so boring (IMO) after having kids... I have a mate who had modded cars etc for ages, now he has a kid his facebook is full of 40 of the same pics of the sprog, and he has a people carrier - definitely not for me!
-
Cos of my job I'm in work tomorrow and on call the rest of the weekend... assuming all stays quiet, I plan to fit my D1 throttle controller at some point, and chill apart from that!

Hello! Did I accidentally buy quite a rare Zed?
Stan replied to Xelotath's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Welcome to the forum... I was actually going to look at that Zed until I realised it was dark blue and not black (I was only after black or azure blue) Definitely a tasty car and although I haven't been on the forum long, I can't remember seeing frost leather in a roadster before. -
Welcome! I also have an azure roadster, so good choice
-
Welcome to the forum! I am also from Norfolk and got my azure roadster 2 weeks ago, I was adament I wanted black, but after seeing one in blue I knew that was definitely a good colour choice
-
Certainly seems easier and cheaper to buy a pre revip lower plenum and shave the required bits off, rather than get the rev2. I'd also be interested in seeing more details on how to do it

I got the latest disc from ebay which goes up to 2013, however it still doesn't include postcode search still! But it doesn't bother me too much as with a smartphone nowadays I can google the postcode to get a streetname... still not ideal but I prefer having the satnav through the speakers as opposed to using google maps on my phone.

Yeah they are the right way round, I followed the guide on here and have the thicker part attached to the bonnet and the thinner inner bit on the fender. It's good to know that they aren't meant to completely lift it and they will ease up over time
-
Had my car completely die on me last night which was a bummer, had to call the recovery guys out etc etc Turns out it was a fuel pump fuse blown (so simple! Although Nissan were clever in hiding that fusebox under the scuttle panel trim lol). Because I had time to kill I was googling what might be the problem, and one of the things that popped up was a MAF sensor wire gone... so I had a good look and funnily enough one of the wires had rubbed on the strut brace legs and looked like it might have shorted out - so I moved it out the way just in case. Is it likely that this may be the root cause, or could it be something completely seperate? I don't really fancy it happening again!
-
I ordered some from here last week, and fitted them following a 'how to' guide on here as well... however I think I have a problem with them, but I'm just checking to see if anyone else has it. Essentially when I release my bonnet I can easily move it up about halfway, but then the struts don't appear to want to lift it anymore - and I have to push the bonnet up (essentially 'pulling' the struts open) until they are fully extended. This makes me feel like I am damaging either the struts of the hinges. Is this normal, do they become better with time, or are mine not rated high enough to lift the bonnet easily?

Typically I never saw any before I got my Zed... I've had her a week and just saw 2 today! One was a black roadster heading out of Norwich on the A140 this morning, the other was a 53 plate black coupe driving up my road in Long Stratton just now Update... just saw a ginger one coming up my road last night... now that's 3 in succession!
-
I thought about that but as it is just for the overhead lights when you unlock the car, would they really get that hot for a few seconds?
-
I have some of these on order - would placing a bit of electrical tape over the heatsink to avoid contact suffice?

Custom Anodised Plenum Spacers (that's it they're ALL gone - CLOSED)
Stan replied to Wasso's topic in Member Traders
I'll drop out of the blue one that I asked you to hold, thanks for doing that anyway, but it's gonna be a while before I go through with all the remap stuff If you happen to have it in a few months I'll have it off you then!! -

Now that I have a roadster I'll be up for meeting you all (although being a newbie can you all be nice to me please ) Of course if the weather is pants she'll be staying safe in the garage lol. Happy to convoy from Norwich for those coming from away? -
Ordered a popcharger, Z badge and stubby for my new roadster on Sunday night (after Chris kindly answered some questions via PM) - delivered within 2 days, ready to be installed tomorrow. Superb service!

I have the straps ready, I just need to know how tight they need to be, if anyone who owned one from new may know? I don't want to make it too tight and then the bows start bending when the roof is up
-
A common problem it seems! Although my roof still works fine, the elastic between what I assume is the 2nd and 3rd bows (just behind the drivers head) is very slack when closed so I want to fix it before it becomes a problem. I have got some high strength tensile webbing to replace this, however does anyone know what tension it should be when the roof is closed? Is it meant to be fully tight (i.e. at the limit of their stretch) or a bit slack?
