  1. My old mate Pete RIP worked for British rail back in the day. I remember him calling me after privatisation like he had won the lottery. All the drivers had received what equated to a 110% pay rise. That was the way Thatcher diluted union power, deregulation and privatisation.
  2. Ironically my last car was an M3 E46 manual . It's what I traded in for the Z I couldn't stand the thing.
  3. Unions are a good thing if kept in check, however anyone remember the dark days before Thatcher. State owned enterprise unions would down tools for very simplistic problems which affected the countries productivity. As a kid I remember the news being awash with strikes by nearly every union sector. An ex work colleague of mine worked for Leyland at Cowley and some of the stories he came out with would he laughable now.
  4. Should I comment on Alpha's, errrm no chance I've been flamed enough
  5. Yep because your not biased at all owning a DE, just read all your comments on this post, HR is a better car all round, it's the natural progression of a vehicle although you seem to think that Nissan have clearly gone backwards. When have you ever seen the HR with issues of burning oil ??? You will find this is the DE rev-up. Only negative to the HR is the oil gallery gasket issue. DE gearbox is like chocolate although you will probably disagree and say it's still better than the HR box ??? Like you have said the Internet is a great resource so use it next time before making yourself look silly. Woah ease up son, I like them all. Mine is a c**p early DE. I've also said the HR engine is smoother more than once lol. I test drove several HRs one had only 8k.I only rejected it because buying the Z was my first attempt at modding I would have blown my budget on the purchase alone My rubbish project burns no oil whatsoever and is on 97k now, gearbox is smooth even with a short shift kit, although I've always used molyslip on oil changes. I've also stated to the OP that condition within budget is the most important factor. So no I'm not biased at all I just take umbridge to words like "superior" or "stronger" being used to describe a car that clearly isn't especially from an ownership proposition on a limited budget for a potential new owner. I'm also basing my comments on the issues reported on this very forum, issues I would have probably worried about as an owner of an HR should I have purchased one. It's all about having the budget to fix potential issues rather than buying a car you can't run because you've blown all your cash in the purchase. Just trying to help, I certainly don't think I've made myself look stupid. All the Zs are great cars for the money and we established that early on for the OP.
  6. I'm the same mate, I've been with AA since 1991. Every year it's a battle with them to keep the cost down. They usually send through offers half way through the year to top up on extras to your cover then if you add the extra they automatically assume you still want it come renewal time and try to take even more cash. My missus was with green flag until last year when I put her on my policy as it worked out cheaper for her to ditch them and help spread the cost with the AA.
  7. I've just listened to the podcast of Diane Abbott discussing police budgets with Nick Ferrari on LBC. Unbelievable, at least prepare your pitch first.
  8. Heavy cars all variants and suspension knocks must by far be the most discussed tech topic I've read on here The kangaroo refers to the lumpy lurching characteristic in traffic which is sorted easily with a map. Maybe I'm just a victim of negative forum posts as people rarely post if the car is running nicely. I suppose it's the same elsewhere, I was looking at Caymans/Boxsters but was scared off by the IMS bearing issue. Then I started looking at Elise S1 and early S2 models and found the K series were prone to head gasket failure. Lol the Internet is a great resource but it does beef up the negatives even though it's probably a minute percentage. I suppose the bottom line is have a slush fund just in case and enjoy the car. Ignore everything I've said in previous posts
  9. Kangaroos. Slave in bell housing. Still suffer from all the previous suspension issues of the DE. Basically my point obviously is that a later car should improve on previous gen vehicles not add more issues. Like I said once issues are sorted they are the better car. I nearly bought one based on the dipstick alone
  10. Sorry yet again I have to disagree with the word "stronger". As what was essentially a test bed for the 370 engine they are full of faults and design flaws. Once these have been rectified however they are the better car. Engine feels smoother for sure, it's just a shame the weight increased with the HR lump and all those "improvements "are negated to give as near as damn it the same performance as a Revup.
  11. ^ +1 About 750 and 850 with a/c. DE

    250R

It was only a quick hop from West Horsley to the park and ride outside Guildford and back so about 6 miles. It took about 2 seconds to fall for the car though. A very savvy sales tactic indeed, he knew I could only afford an old S2 the bugger. It was a sort of "here's the car your going to buy at some stage in the future". One way to build a client base I suppose, but I'm not complaining

Haha that's it the 250 cup my mistake. It had carbon bits on it and little union jacks on the spoiler. A little bit batman but christ it was a cracking drive.I have the R on the brain as that's what I'm looking for. Alas they only had one S2 (exige) on the forcourt and I think it belonged to the salesman. However they have my details if they get a standard S2 111R in at any stage. I didn't take pics of the 250 unfortunately but it was a solid lightish blue with carbon skirts a really aggressive front splitter and little flags on the spoiler fins. The seats far surpassed any old Probak ones I've looked at in earlier S2 cars, this S3 thing had proper buckets with a nice alcatara quilted look and were very comfortable. The dealer was called Bell and Colville check out the website. They also sell Morgans but they didn't really interest me.

Whilst continuing on my hunt for a Lotus Elise S2 today, I was lucky enough to have a drive in a new 250 Cup (Thanks GM) I can't afford one but what a machine, nothing I have ever driven before comes close!! Absolutely loved it!!
  15. I suppose this is all a mute issue in reality there is still a couple of decades left for petroleum. Small capacity turbos and hybrids. As stated before some people are not in a position to charge a car at home and there's still plenty of oil left. Diesels for private use well that's the first to fall by the looks of it.
  16. ^^This +1 I'm not a drag racer so pub talk figures mean nothing. However I do like corners, hence the reason I'm buying an Elise. When your backside is on the tarmac 60mph feels like a ton
  17. We'd have one party and I'd be Supreme Allied Commander of The People's Republic of Stutopia. It would be a green and pleasant land, with a 3 day week and leisure pursuits for one and all. I'm in
  18. If your referring to Blair that was a Tory government
  19. People believe what they are fed, people like the status quo. People actually have very little choice in reality. Your vote for say LD or Greens is a wasted vote. Again I reiterate my comment from earlier,we are forced to vote for the lesser of two evils as the others don't have a chance. It's not proportional enough.
  20. Simple mate that was the most Tory labour government ever riding the back of the most dull Tory leader John Major during an economic downturn. It was then reversed for the same reason. The tories are always the same and have become very adept at raping people's wallets whilst making it look like they are doing you a favour. Wealthy people benefit from tory governments. Everyone suffers under labour governments. Rock and hard place.
  21. It's all very sad really isn't it, same old shower of s***e. Yet again the bulk of the country will be voting Tory like the sheep they are. Why, well because Corbyn comes across as weak internationally which is a shame because some of his policies domestically sound fair. The Lib Dems errm yeah OK. The leader is a Christian tree hugging leftie with poop box phobia. Basically an ignorant t**t. I really don't know why we bother discussing this foregone conclusion.
  22. I was paranoid about this water issue until someone stated the obvious. Even on a car with a proper bonnet water still gets in the engine bay if it's raining or there is surface water about so it's pretty normal.
  23. That's the point though mate, whether it's legal or not it will still happen. At least if we regulate and tax it the country gains through taxation and the criminal justice system currently at breaking point can breathe a sigh of relief.
