  1. Aside from the massive rollbar that is absolutely fantastic, well done!
  2. I've had an ST2 and a Mk1 Leon Cupra R. The Focus sounds good but I found mine really dull, love my old Seat though. It might just be that I've grown out front wheel drive hatchbacks however.
  3. Yep I have to agree. Everyone here seems very friendly and there is a lot of info available if you search. Havn't noticed any of the attitude you get from keyboard warriors on other fora (forums?).
  4. I'd say compared to most cars the zed is pretty well suited to this as the pedals are reasonably close together. I've never done it however and don't really know how. It's not something I'd start practicing on the road!
  5. Well, I had 5 hours of riding today and getting quite used to the handling basics already (covered about 60 miles). Have training for my mod 1 test next Sunday and the test the following Tuesday. I only anticipate having one further day of riding before my mod 2. Thing is, I'm pretty mature on the roads, I have fast cars but don't really drive fast and certainly don't take unnecessary risks. I won't be going out and buying anything crazy like a litre sports bike, just like cars I'm a big believer in starting small, building up your experience and road craft before moving on to bigger and better machines. Thinking of a 650 twin for a first bike like the sv650.
  6. After 13 years on four wheels I've finally started on the path to getting out on two. Have completed my CBT and theory test and today went out on the big bikes for the first time (650 bandit). Had an absolute blast and can't wait to get me license and a bike. Anyone else here in to the bikes? My zed felt seriously slow driving home!
  7. I've never turned mine off in 10 months or so of ownership, it has only ever kicked in a couple of times in that time (usually when I've already kicked the back end out a bit on a damp roundabout). I'd be too nervous about sliding my car off the road I think...
  8. Any thoughts on the smart repair? I'm guessing I should get this done before a detail really?
  9. Can be had cheap on lease at the moment too. e.g: http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing-companies/independent-brokers/dcmd-ltd/vauxhall/corsa/32575931/
  10. Hmmm, that's a bit more than I was hoping for. Any idea if they do smart repairs? I can see from their website they do wheel refurbs and such and I think they allude to respraying.
  11. We have just ordered a new Leon (baby due in December) through Drive the Deal and it was a very pleasant hassle-free experience. I plugged in all my details, paid a £500 deposit directly to DTD who then tell you which dealer they have placed the order with. After that point all your dealings are directly with the dealer in question and DTD are not involved. The dealer I have ordered with happens to be in Kent which is completely the other side of the country for me but they will deliver (driven) for free so I'm weighing up whether to collect the car or have it driven to me. My local dealer originally matched my price from DTD and I ordered with them, they then decided they had quoted on the outgoing version and not the incoming version (slight engine change) and had to bump the price up £200. It may have been an honest mistake but, I cancelled the order as a matter of principal, after taking my money they should have honoured the price they quoted.
  12. Thanks for that, do you have personal experience of using them? Any idea what a rough cost for a good detail is likely to be?
  13. Maybe a silly question, I'm also in the market for new pads (and possibly discs) but, I'm not sure if the price ~£80-85 is for a full set for the axle or just for one corner? Can anyone enlighten me please?
  14. Can anyone recommend a good detailer in the Cardiff area please? I've never had a car detailed before but always wanted to get it done as I've seen some amazing results. I don't really have the time, skill or inclination to perform a full detail myself. Also, I have a couple of stone chips on the front wings, am I best off getting these smart repaired before or after a detail? On that note, can anyone recommend me a smart repairer? Thanks in advance!
  15. Had a brief chat with the owner of a heavily modified grey 370Z outside DPD in Cardiff this evening. Sounded good
  16. As already mentioned, newer cars are way more economical than those of even 10 years ago. We have just been looking at new Leons for the wife and ended up going for the 1.4 TSI petrol over the 2.0 TDI as it gets similar economy and emissions, only slightly lower power but, its a much nicer more refined engine to live with. Combined cycle is supposedly 54mpg I think.
  17. The speed is obviously not the issue but the engine revs as I think you know. Anything above about 1500 rpm is not likely to do much harm to the engine (and possibly lower).
  18. Personally I could never bring myself to buy an insurance write off. It's risky enough buying cars (lots of lemons about that have not been crashed), seems unnecessary to me to increase the risk by going for something you know has an iffy history (whether crash damaged or stolen recovered).
  19. There's only Gareth Bale and he's Welsh . Whether or not we have the best league in the world is debatable but we certainly have the richest and unless you're good enough to play for one of the Spanish giants I see little financial incentive in playing abroad. Pete How true, if we had genuinely World Class players in England then they would be at the top Italian/Spanish sides and improving their game with truly World Class players..... oh the irony!!! Was going to post just this myself. The only clubs willing to pay the absurdly high fees for british players are british clubs. There is pots of money in the Spanish and Italian leagues but you don't see them snapping up all the british 'talent'.
  20. Welcome, zeds are great value for money. You won't regret it.
  21. Just saw the penalty shootout and the volley from yesterday. Goal of the tournament so far for me, unreal.
  22. Yes, I have. I was on my way to a National Park in Utah early in the morning when an ambulance flew past me. A few miles further on a car had hit a deer and it had gone straight through the windscreen, absolutely horrific sight and both deer and driver perished. I'm not making this up but I also once saw a donkey get hit by a car containing 4 or 5 nuns directly in front of me , luckily neither the donkey or the nuns were hurt as the impact was at about 20 mph. This was in the middle of France in 1975 and the first and only time I've seen a nun driving a car. Pete Driving cars is probably a false economy for nuns, they would get everywhere late as they keep stopping to tend to the donkeys they have run over.
  23. Mine is on 34k and does this, I'm led to believe it is normal.
