  1. If it is a significant amount of money, and the person you are lending the money to owns their house, why not 'buy' a percentage of the house. They have the cash, you have a firm asset. If this is done properly through a solicitor and land registry then your money is 'safe as houses'. This would be far safer than 'risking' what happens with the estate when the person dies - which believe me, can be more complicated than you can imagine.
  2. Sorted. Turn on ignition and lock and unlock doors using switch on door. Bet I forget again next time.
  3. Just replaced car battery but alarm keeps going off every time I open a door. Car starts. Is there a way to reset? Any pointers gratefully welcome. thanks.
  4. My wife drives a Clio but wants something bigger, more economical, better quality, more comfortable. So the other week I bought her a 2011 Passat Estate. Really nice drive, smooth, economical, etc. This was based on her glancing at some pics and saying 'yes, that looks fine'. And guess what, she doesn't want it, so now up for sale. Doh! So I will sell it, pocket the dosh, and she can buy her own damn car! Try to do something nice for them........ Beware!
  5. Not necessarily a problem. I just bought a car for the wife but she doesn't like it so will be selling it very soon. Has been into my local garage for full check over and new clutch and flywheel. So I will be selling after a months ownership and someone will get a bargain .........
  6. Crikey, don't get me going on speeders and people on phones! Our estate has a feeder road with shops, chippy and school - kids everywhere. It's a 30 limit but in my opinion 20 max is safe but so many drivers do 30 AND while on their phones. I don't get it, they are either 1 minute from leaving or getting to home so why on the goddam phone. And never a copper in sight, they are too busy trying to catch 'the seasider'.
  7. Why don't you join the Salvation Army, then you can sign it
  8. I started travelling to the US many years ago. There were some remote locations where they had never met an English bloke and the ladies loved the accent. I therefore used the name Lord Ponsonby to promote myself as part of the 'english gentry'. Colleagues would phone the hotel to inform them that Lord Ponsonby was residing with them but staying under a false name. I always knew when the phone call had been made, would go from one waitress at my table to several and free bottles of wine would turn up etc. There were other fringe benefits too ....
  9. 14 years on second marriage. Can't remember first marriage, so painful emotionally and financially that it has been deleted from my memory. First wedding was a full blown affair - hated it. Second wedding was low key, civil wedding with just close relatives and mates and was a great day. I would never encourage anyone to spend a small fortune on all the pomp and circumstance, too stressful and really spoils the enjoyment.
  10. And watch out for those pesky mice .......
  11. Watched it last night because my son wanted to watch it - I think he fancies himself as an entrepreneur Absolutely hated it and will certainly not watch it again. It is not even entertaining, I found it quite stressful to watch and just wanted to punch their lights out. If Alan Sugar was allowed to shoot the loser instead of firing them it would be so much better ... .
  12. Very nice. You went for the right model - HR Have owned mine exactly 12 months now and still love her as much as the day I picked her up. Usually change my cars very frequently but no plans to change. Enjoy !
  13. You will not be disappointed. I have had a 225 TT and a 3.0 Z4 and prefer my 350Z.
  14. Quite amazed at the difference in salaries between top and bottom of list. Thought there would have been less of a differential and that even the lower ranked drivers would have been on a lot more than Euro 150K

    MOT

Mine has just been in for MOT and I had the same discussion with the garage. I used a performance car specialist who have been building, racing and servicing performance cars since 1964. They said that it can be done on the rollers if done in the correct manner or they can use a decelerometer.
  16. I think that is a very kind offer and will make 3 people happy - the seller, Mikey and you
  17. I think this is what my son would have me doing to my temper orange. I think not!
  18. I'll give you £8500 for your house then you can get the Z. Deal?
  19. If you are really interested then take the train down and have a look. Many on here will have travelled quite a distance to find the best car / deal. I am sure the seller will knock your rail fare off the price. +1 but I wouldn't bank on the rail fair being discounted. that car is underpriced as it is! Fair comment.

  21. The 350Z will not feel much faster (if at all) than your 20VT, especially if you had changed the boost on your 20VT. Handling will be much better though. Owned a couple of 20VT's myself, love them and getting very hard to find a good one now.
  22. That's part of the problem ~ too many bl**dy American traditions/ideas coming over here. Can't believe lot's of schools are now doing "Proms" over here! Wtf's that all about. Already been through a couple of Proms with my daughters - damn ridiculous and they get so stressed about it. Thinking of cashing in myself and using my brightly coloured (english spelling) 350Z as a prom car since there is a popular venue not far from me. If someone is stupid enough to pay it I will happily take their money. Regarding Christmas - way too early! Even worse if they have started playing the tedious Christmas music. If I went for a meal and they were playing the music now I would just pass comment and leave.
  23. Pleased to read this - had decided I was just a crap driver.
  24. I think that you need to consider very carefully what you want and what type of person you are. Sounds like you have a pretty well paid job with little responsibility (management wise) but are just getting a little bored - but we all get bored. You have questioned the responsibility / stress of a higher paid position - does this suggest you are averse to these factors? Most £55K plus jobs will carry a lot of responsibility and highly likely to be stressful so unless you thrive on these things then be careful what position you take. You should never worry about giving notice. It is your life and your 'friends' will support your decision. Obviously if you do a proper handover then you will feel better about it and so will those you leave behind.
  25. Agree with Chris. Take it to a repair shop or look in the small ads for a local repairer. They will probably give you a free quote then you can decide if it is worth doing or not. If it is a major repair, then like Pete said it is likely something else will will fail before too long. But if just a cable then worth getting it done.
