  1. This thread has got me convinced on one thing though... Powder coating my rays black
  2. I'm getting married in May next year... I not allowed to use the 350z as our wedding car though!
  3. Congratulations! Now enjoy the honeymoon!
  4. I trubo charged my mx5, it was excellent fun! 236bhp in something that doesn't weigh much with a fantastic chassis, can't go wrong! Good vid.
  5. I agree they look awesome with spacers - I'm still trying to work out the steering axis inclination and scrub radius affect that spacers would do on the handling in certain conditions. I'm sure you guys know more about it, but once I've worked it out I'll join in on the spacer bandwagon!
  6. Fair point Arran - it is subjective though, they do look better with spacers no doubt there. However, I'm not convinced that they're affect are "pros"
  7. Bear in mind you'll be adding more unsprung weight, and could potentially alter the handling characteristics.
  8. I've seen a lot of people suggest the Peugeot 207 net and I've seen a lot of generic nets which by measurements would fit the zed nicely. So what's the difference between them? Most of the ones I've seen are single layer is it the same for the 'genuine' one? Cheers.
  9. Now all you need to fill it with is an arsenal of anti Zombie weaponary.
  10. It's not ideal, but it doesn't half work! Especially on old transit vans...
  11. I'm going to get a carbon fibre one myself
  12. Can't see the vid - would be good to see it! Yeah the 350z is torquey enough to get it sideways, but as you say a clutch dip can help break the traction too - as you say it's not all about power, heck I used to do 20mph drifts in my mx5!
  13. haha - no not clever, or an expert. I'm just really interested in this sort of stuff. I have done a few track days and so on, and learnt from experimenting different things, but I'm far from from being an expert! So it's a mixture of experience and being a bookworm. Thank you for the kind words. I spent a lot of time driving old RWD cars with no driver aids too so I guess you sort of learn through the scares you get as you learn!
  14. You could do it that way too! However the way he did it was weight transfer and momentum - dabbing the brakes shifts the weight forward, the back lightens up, and if you have enough steering lock on the back will want to catch up and over take you, you then "catch" it with the throttle to control it.
  15. You can indeed. That's how the designers created the handling. In fact here's a good test - the whole video is pretty cool http://youtu.be/pMYgaezbZbk?t=16m35s
  16. I've had it two weeks now. For the price I think it's great - plenty of features etc. It is a little slow though considering how fast even cheap smart phones are now. Unfortunately I don't have an android phone so I haven't been able to try mirror link. I also noticed the "telenav" app isn't on the home screen, maybe it's not available in Europe? Which is disappointing. How are you finding it? Not had it fitted yet, but a friend has it in his car, and I tried the mirror link feature, and to be honest that's what sold it to me, and the fact it has a front USB port! I was able to run my sat nav on my phone, and there it was on screen! Basically using my phone via the head unit. The interaction with the music lists/folders seemed really good to me - and the quality of the sound (to me) was a definite upgrade. I think there may be a firmware upgrade as my friend's seemed fairly slick.
  17. I tend to keep cars. I had to sell them owing to moving, and also getting company cars and not being able to keep them all running or off the road. I regret selling some of them, however, I'm in a very fortunate position to be able to afford frivolities like this. However, I shan't be going mad - I've maxed my budget at around £2.5k - which is more than enough!
  18. I'm in south east London near Greenwich. But hope in due course to turn up to more meets/track days etc... I did it before with my turbo charged hair dryer (mx5) so I plan on doing it again! At the moment I have to settle for London traffic!
  19. Oh yes, of course, I'm not in a position to be exploiting the inadequacies of a viscous diff, unlike your rather awesome build thread, for a mere enthusiast like me, I'll be sticking to the standard diff and just enjoy it as is as it'll be more than good enough for me. However it is interesting to see that it has been thought of, and whislt I wouldn't worry about doing anything like that, I just thought I'd 'put it out there'.
  20. Drifting is a lot harsher mechanically, which is why the viscous diff starts to heat up, and the oil becomes more viscous itself, leading to less performance from the diff as it won't lock as much. To be honest I'm sure this doesn't apply to most of us, nor does it apply to me, however, my curiosity still felt like being tickled. Have you ever driven a fully locked diff as a day to day driver? It's not that pleasant and you'll wear your tyres out much more quickly! However you get good fast launches and lots of tyre smoke if you want it!
  21. Dammit, that's what I've been doing wrong! Right London, watch out, I'm out to make some money!
  22. Oh I'm not a drift king, and for day to day driving and on the roads, especially when it gets wet a locked diff is just not fun, though it does make it interesting! I've had many goes on and off a track with a 200sx which has a viscous diff, and after a bit of hard driving do start to give up a little - Which isn't a problem, but having owned a few cars with mechanical LSDs I was just curious. I haven't thrashed the zed enough to even warrant it, and am not considering it - but was just curious if anyone had done it
