  1. "Overtaking and pushing into a queue of traffic" Doesn't this sort of go against the merge in turn rule? How do you differentiate between overtaking and pushing in to driving past everyone to get to the merge point? All these rules are good in principle but we've already got most of these covered by current rules. It's the lack of road patrols that are the issue.
  2. It's mid 700s at the moment. It must just be London I guess - or underwriters being funny about me owning a "powerful" RWD car... it's daft. Also bear in mind I'm going for £0 excess, fully comp and everything else. If I added £300 voluntary excess it would be around £600 - but I don't see the point. I'll get it back down now that I will be (hopefully) be insuring a car in my name again. I live in SE London - in between Charlton and Greenwich, so not a ****hole, but I guess close enough to Woolwich to be an issue! C'est la vie. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm getting close to finding "the one". So it'll be worth it in the end.
  3. Thanks Rabbit - I always do, but definitely worth checking. Funnily enough if I were to insure myself on a Speed Triple it would be under £300 FC with 0 excess. Stupid! Anyway, this is down to the fact that my 14 years NCB are not consecutive since I had a company car - so only technically have 3 years NCB. Living in London doesn't help I guess. Anyway getting down to mid 700s with 0 excess, legal cover and all the added standard extras. To be honest, it'll do. Annoyingly if I had my full no claims it would be around £500 :/
  4. I've got a quote waiting with you guys thanks to Milton. He's been really helpful and matched the quotes I had from admiral and axa but with more benefits. Top job guys.
  5. Sounds like your experience is the same as mine. Just need to rebuild my NCB and I should be ok. I've tried Sky, I'm afraid you weren't competitive.
  6. Axa have just quoted me £671 fully comp. Anybody had any dealings with them? The deal seems pretty good.
  7. Well if I had 4 years no claims the premium drops to 540! Wish I had never taken a company car now, or at least kept my private car. You live and learn!
  8. I love the sound of these, but not the drivetrain. I think they do look rather sexy though.
  9. Oh I hadn't thought of privilege. Thanks for the tip. The daft thing is I've had performance cars before but because I had a company car for a few years so has basically put me back to ground zero! At least I'm not in my 20s else I fear it would be worse. It's just a shame that they cannot add my NCB from both private and company car policies!
  10. Annoyingly I sold my private car 4 years ago when I got a company car. So my private insurance no claims stopped accruing. Although I had a work insurance policy I only clocked up 3 years and a bit of NCB. So despite my 10 years of no claims and my additional 3 years of no claims they can only take my last 3 years no claims as too much time has passed since my private policy was taken out! It means that my quotes are getting in just under £1k! For someone in his mid 30s with 15 years clean driving licence it's quite depressing. I guess I live in London so it's to be expected. And fully comp insurance etc.... Still Chris Knott are looking most competitive so far... I'm pitching them up against admiral at the moment... We'll see what the outcome is! I haven't even bought the bloody thing yet! Lol!
  11. That's what I've been doing wrong all these years!
  12. Another mod I plan to do - especially living in London, it gets used a lot!
  13. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread - as I'm getting closer to getting my Zed, this is something I plan on doing. Personally, from the list you've given, I tend to plan on doing #2 - but perhaps without the sub. I'm a fairly n00b to car wiring/audio, I've always paid others to do it for me! For the wiring loom to be able to use the steering wheel controls you need to get the cables from here: http://incartec.co.uk/nissan/1929/1034/2056/radio/Browser.aspx That's as much as I know! I believe the only issue with 6.5" aftermarket speakers is the depth of the speaker and how it sits in the door - you may need a spacer to fit it. However, again, I don't know from experience, just from my browsing of this forum! Good luck , and please can you post pictures of what you do so that I can learn from your experience!
  14. ^^ well said. The cop sort of engineered that to happen, but the guy in the car shouldn't have been such an arrogant arse about it all.
  15. I guess they don't know the concept of merge in turn, wherever that video was filmed (probably Russia again ). It's still something people don't "get" over here - especially when coming up to lane closures/lane merging. Rather than being a self righteous do-gooder, it's safer to let 1 car go, and 1 car in - rather than trying to be the bigger person and stopping people from filtering in. Mathematically/and from time/motion studies, merge in turn is more efficient than queuing up from 17.34 miles away into 1 line. People think it's "cheeky" to come in at the end, actually it's just much more sensible. Now, in this case I accept that the 4x4 driver was being a noblet for assuming he had the right of way. I was just talking in general terms of driving etiquette and style.
  16. I have to say that it was a clash of stubborn gits, and both really are just as bad as each other, but the "payback" was innovative!
  17. I went to a friend's jeweller who custom made the engagement ring I wanted, and was very competitive. Makes a high street jeweller look like a rip off. I had the ring valued at Hatton gardens and at the lanes in Brighton and they both came back with a Value of about 4-5x what I paid for it. I'm happy to pass on the details, and if you tell him I sent you he'll look after you well. His office/factory is in Basildon but he's worth the journey. We've had our wedding rings made there and 3 of my friends have used him since and gone back for more work. He is a genius. Here's a pic of it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b9d91qjd5iy3091/2101472-800.jpg
  18. Love how he then overtakes to chase him at the end.
  19. I saw this a few years ago when it was first reported, it's amazing to see how it has spread across the world reaching even the poorest of places. As for a window, it would create more heat, and glass is expensive, furthermore if you use Perspex, which is expensive too, would cloud over. This stops moss building up thanks to the bleach, and actually refracts the light, more than just a straight window would offer, it provides illumination.
  20. Also we were given a brain and free will, to do whatever we felt was the right thing to do. We cannot mitigate our responsibilities as human beings to one another or to the laws and political sanctions we have set through years of wars, exploration, and civilisation development over the past several millennia.
  21. I get this even when driving my other half's dented, flakey paint, scratched R reg 1.6L corolla! I think it's just owing to the lack of driving standards on the roads and a lot of egos. What's worse is those that tailgate you, then you hit a corner, and suddenly they're miles behind, and then on the straight tailgate you again! Don't rise to it, just let them do their ignorant behaviour, I just let those people pass, and just not worry about it, as long as I keep a safe distance and feel I'm behaving safely I don't really care what others do after they're a decent distance from me. Some people are just very strange.
  22. Who do you pray to though? God? Buddha? Jesus? Mohammed? The Flying Spaghetti Monster? Which made-up person do you think can help you? Serious question, despite the flippancy. I pray to "God" but I don't believe in a God, if that makes sense? I dunno, I'm not expecting anything to be answered from my prayers but it's comforting to believe that there is someone listening With that reasoning why not pray to Cheryl Cole at least if she does hear your prayers if they get answered its a win/win Meh, she doesn't do it for me Hard to explain, it's an act of desperation which I get comfort from That pretty much sums up religion for me, depressed, unhappy people with worthless lives longing to believe in something to give their life purpose... Sorry if that offends the billions of religious people out there, I fully intend to burn in hell as I know thats where all the dirty girls will be Imagine if you weren't able to touch them for eternity! That WOULD be hell!
  23. Not sure many people go to church and chant "the reverend is a w@nker" Your parallel does make me smile however It wasn't meant to provoke negativity, just the slightly hypocrisy at times from some people who snub organised religions. And no I don't think that would go down to well... however, by that I meant a lot of the either deprecating or encouraging chants that supporters do. Heck we do it in rugby (usually swing low sweet chariot, though!) I have nothing against football (I'm a rugby man however) but it was e closest parallel I could draw from my experience in this country.
