  1. Any ideas re the above? should be fixed to the axle and make no difference when turning, theoretically? Or am I missing something?!
  2. Your parsimonious attitude the remaining petrol in the tank is bizzare. Not only are you chopping in your Zed for £2-3k below its private sale price, but you're also replacing it with a Cayenne turbo! Peculiar accounting methodology indeed... Also, I remember these going for £10-12k during the credit crunch in 2008. A missed opportunity!
  3. Take the money. Another £1500 should get you an 05 zed with 40-60k on the clock
  4. OK so I put the rear shims on today. Made a big difference to the squeal, which has almost entirely stopped. I am still getting some if I brake a very low speed (<5mph) when the wheels are pointed hard left or right. Can anyone think why this would be?! Seems very strange.. Apart from that, it's bliss driving around in it now. I've also noticed that the brakes are working much more effectively now. On reflection, it was probably a bit silly to only put the front shims on. That extra 1mm of thickness on the front pads was messing around with the brake pressure (or something). Note to others - put shims all round or not at all. Cheers, DT
  5. Sorry, but the title sounded like a 350z fetish wife-swapping invite or something
  6. Interesting thread, because my plan was to potentially "upgrade" to a minty low mileage 08 next year, when I have a bit more cash. Need to figure out whether the extra £4-5k would be worth it. And not only that, but also have to factor in slightly higher depreciation, insurance and VED as you say.
  7. Very nice. ever though of swapping the calipers for red or black ones?
  8. That's a great price, assuming it's in sound condition (should be after only 18k miles really). Snap it up.
  9. Sadly, true. Mine had a new clutch at 48k. Previous owner lived in London and all that gear-changing malarkey might have aged it somewhat prematurely, although it appears to be within the general mileage range for clutch failure according to other posts on here...
  10. Seems like a very reasonable price. Good job too.
  11. £8-8.5k. Might sound a lot for a 2004 in GM, but it has very low miles + a nice exhaust.
  12. If he was that level with you, then he wasn't trying. The TTRS is fast as fook, and I'd do well to keep one honest in the 911. 336bhp, 4.6 0-60. So not hugely more than the 313 zed in the real world. Maybe he wasnt trying, but seems strange that he followed me for 8 miles, waiting for me to put my foot down, then when we did have a bit of fun he wouldnt try. Either way, they are very nice cars and very tuneable. But for £40k you are spoilt for choice really as to what incredible cars you can buy. 4.6 to 60 is about a second quicker than the zed which is a lifetime, plus it is lighter, 4WD and with more BHP. Theres no shame in it being quicker than a zed due to being about £20k more when new...... Yep, that and higher Audi servicing and component costs etc. Guess it's fairer to compare the TTRS to a Cayman, price wise.
  13. Well, the standard Zed's not THAT quiet.... I don't think anyone would is disagreeing with you. My point was that the XK8/R were slightly out of my budget. Had I another £5k and could afford an extra grand or two in running costs & insurance etc, I might have bought one over the Zed. But I probably would've just gone for a 313 instead
  14. Yep, well, look at the prices of XK8s and 996s (and any Alfa from 2011)! i can believe it, i got my XKR for a bargain price, the previous 5 owners lost about 70k between them Yes I saw a lot of XKRs going for four figures but was put off by the potentially wallet-busting cost if an SC went "poof". The insurance was also £400 more for me and my girlfriend said they're grandad cars (even though I think they look and sound great). Zed seemed more reliable and slightly cheaper to run. Hope you maanged to find a good one though. Mum's "boy"friend has a 2009 4.2 and it's very lush indeed....
  15. Indeed - although they're known for being even thirstier than the zed, less reliable and slower. Not the prettiest car either. £2500 is very very cheap though. 90% depreciation in 7 years is pretty horrific though.
  16. Deliberately. I'm from an era where a sponge was a luxury, as was central heating and a direct dial telephone and double glazing You can add condoms to that list
  17. Thanks john - I've put new brembo pads with shims on it now - MUCH quieter than before, but I've only done 60 miles on them. Need to see if the squeal comes back...
  18. Best colour - looks great. Just need to get some 350z mats now :-)
  19. Yep, well, look at the prices of XK8s and 996s (and any Alfa from 2011)!
  20. Indeed. Just seen the cost of a replacement connect premium hdd and nearly had a heart attack . £10k!
  21. OK so pads changed with front shims - squeal reduced significantly but still some noise from the rears. Will put those on next weekend when I have more time. Brembo pads not as good at stopping the car, but they're good enough and the earsplitting shriek from the car has disappeared
  22. Awesome. Must steal/borrow/lease one. If only for a day
  23. I've just had a nightmare with this problem. Will hopefully be getting it sorted over the weekend. Basically, the previous garage put new pads on, which were a racing compound and very squeaky. The also neglected to replace the shims. Tried copper greasing them. Worked great for about 100 miles, then came back, worse than before. Ordered some standard brembo pads and some used shims from a dealer here. Will let you know how it goes. Also, general build-up of dirt and brake dust around the calipers can exacerbate the problem, apparently.
  24. 04 with 30k miles? Is it a JDM?! Bit a tragedy really. These cars should be DRIVEN and ENJOYED!
