  1. Thanks for the lecture, but I was just wanting to know if I needed to send away my old card license?
  2. Hi Guys Finally decided to get round to renewing my photo license (expired in 2009 - oops) I'm putting my car (Cayenne Turbo) in for a service and to get a courtesy car they need my license - I've lost the paper bit and my card is out of date, but she says they can call DVLA to have me checked. The girl encouraged me to sort out my license and said I could do it online. I tried this yesterday afternoon and becuase my passport wasn't issued in the past 5 years then the computer says no. So just filled out all the paperwork and got a Postal Order of 20 quid to send away to them. Then as I was putting everything in envelope it says to include my old license. So I don't have the paper part and I guess the garage will need my card to call DVLA up to make sure I'm ok to drive. Went to call DVLA and shock horror, their phone system isn't working today. I know Agencies like this seem to love any excuse to make life difficult - does anyone know if I NEED to post it back? The card is out of date after all and no idea where my paper license is - I've changed address on the form so I'm assuming they will re-issue me with a new papaer license. After all the hoops I've jumped through today - THIS is why it's taken me nealy 4 years to replace it.
  3. PCM2 - really not happy about this - but I think I'll bite the bullet Interestingly I smashed my passenger wing mirror (just the mirror) by mistake a couple of weeks ago. Long story short, there are quite a lot of Cayenne mirror options and just my luck it turns out my car has the fanciest of fancy auto dimming mirrors. Porsche garage = 400 notes and online = 300 - for JUST the glass bit. Even the dude at Porsche garage said it was extreme. I fitted a 20 quid ebay one, which works well, until you get some speed up and then it's vibration central. As much as I grudge 500 quid for adapter - it's still better than 300 for a f**king wing mirror!
  4. I found this little baby as well - http://nav.tv/products/head-unit-replac ... ur?car=181 Really grudge spending 500 notes on this!
  5. Hi Guys I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice. I went and bought a Pioneer AVH 1400DVD, mainly becuase most of my music is on my phone, or in mp3 format. I also went and bought the necessary looms and facias to get the stereo fitted into the car (Porsche Cayenne Turbo 2005). Put it into the local car stereo place to get fitted this morning. Hadn't heard anything by mid afternoon so I called them only for them to say they couldn't fit the stereo as there is fibre optic connections coming from the Bose amp. After this I called the Aberdeen Porsche garage to confirm this and they said pretty much the same thing. When I collected car I asked if buying a 6 channel amp and replacing the Bose one would work - he asked me why I was wanting to do this and I explained that I wanted music from my iphone and he suggested trying to add a fancier Parrott hands free kit to play music. This isn't what I want and I just wanted some advice from a community I trust. Any suggesstions welcome. The headunit only cost me 200 - so would rather get my money back for it if it looks like it's going to cost me a fortune to get it to work. p.s - Although I love the practicality of the Cayenne it's NOWHERE near as fun as my zed - gone but not forgotten
  6. Cheers SpursMadDave - that's exactly what I was looking for Awesomes - thanks
  7. It's a Cayenne Turbo Mk1 Not nearly as much fun as the Zed, but had a short race with motorbike on Saturday and he couldn't get past me
  8. Hi Guys I'm looking for advice on a good online car stereo retailer who can advise me on the extra components I need to purchase to get the necessary connections to get a new head unit to work with steering controls for volume, etc I've seen the topics on the extra parts for the zed and this is the sort of thing I'm looking for my motor - I'll get someone local to fit this, but just want to have all the parts purchased so I can give them everything and only pay for the fitting. Was looking at the Pioneer avh-2400bt and avh 3300bt (looks a bit better with bigger screen) - any comments/suggestions on these head units. Mainly looking for something to connect my iphone or usb storage. I'll probably never use DVD or CD's in it. All comments/suggestions welcome Thanks
  9. Here's the tractor - http://www.imperials.co.uk/usedcar/PORS ... d/18015680 Not that mine will do anything like this, but found this on YouTube and was very impressed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ps0QNZoYW4
  10. So - breaking point came this week with the Zed! I love the car and it's never missed a beat since I got her - fantastic to drive and by far the best car I've ever owned. However I have two dogs, and as obedient as they are they don't always jump into the footwell of the car when we need to go somewhere. Last Sunday I gave her a right good clean inside, only for my smallest dog to step in a puddle somewhere and dive into the car post clean. I don't have a great temper and my anger level was bouncing off the rev limiter. Monday I called a garage about a Cayenne Turbo I'd seen them advertise and rather than go through hassle of selling the zed privately (which needs Tax, MOT and Service within 2 months) I decided to trade her in. They gave me 10.5k for it (2008 313GT with 31k on clock) which was close enough for me to take the plunge. So she goes off this Friday and I shall get the Cayenne delivered the following Friday (quite excited actually) Only thing that annoys me is the fact I filled the tank of the zed on Sat/Sun last week and I'll never use all the fuel before it goes. Everywhere I go just now I'm blasting it as hard as I can to use it up - can you syphon petrol out of the zed, or has it got something to stop that. Grudge handing her over with that much fuel in her - tips/advice? (seems silly quibbling over the fuel considering how much this is all costing me - it's the Aberdonian in me)
  11. Hi Guys Gave the zed a proper (well deserved) clean the other week and although I love seeing her clean there are a few swirls and marks that grate me and I'm sure that would come out with a polish. I've got a lambswool glove, Meguiars Gold Class Bodywork Shampoo & Conditioner + Microfibre towel to dry I know I need claybar + polish + wax, but when I go into a shop the choice kinda intimadates me and I've no idea the difference between polishes and paint cleaner. I'm going to give it a go by hand and I want to know the polish I'm going to use will have an effect on some of the marks. I realise that nothing will beat a machine polisher, but I'm not that confident. Also is there an easy/preferred method of polishing by hand? ALSO - I have 2 dogs and the zed is my only wheels (I think some of you would lynch me if you saw the state of it inside). What is a good general product(s) for cleaning the interior? (dashboard, doors + other plastics)
  12. Thanks for the advice guys - I wasn't sure what the term "low flood" actually referred to, now I know I'm not touching it with a barge pole (excuse the pun) - it would defo explain why the back of the front seats looked a bit iffy to me. The garage never got in touch today so not that fussed. I did speak to another garage about another Cayenne and was told I would only get 12k for my 2008 Zed for a trade in. Wasn't too impressed with that so not sure what I wil do now. Reckon I might try selling privately and try and get an extra few grand. Either that or keep it another year
  13. Hi Guys Thinking about trading in the Zed against a Porsche Cayenne and I've seen one on pistonheads that is good value for a 2005 model - but it's marked as "Low Flood" I just called the garage and he says they bought it off and Insurance Company. I asked him about a trade in and he said he was at home today, but if I email him with pics and description of car he will give me a call tomorrow. Here is the motor in question - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3030299.htm There's a lot of guys on here with a lot of knowledge so I thought I would ask for some opinions before going any further - is this good value, or too good to be true? Cheers
  14. I know there is a top gear thread - but I just wondered if anyone else thought it was only 30mins of watchable tv? The car stuff is all pretty good - although I'm VERY cyincal about their challenges (i.e the other week when they were in the hot hatches and isn't it just typical that Richard loses his car, James ends up on top of a bridge, oh it's just a laugh a minute) I just wish they did more reviews/interviews than fill the show with stuff like making train cars, or cars that will go across the English channel, etc. I saw the GTR stuff - just awesome. When they get it right they do it well, so why bother with the filler?
  15. I just wonder if anyone else watches Top Gear my way! i.e - I record it, or pause it and let it get 30mins into the programme before I start to watch. The reason for doing so is I cannot STAND the "news" section which screams of pre-scripted nonsense that tries to make all the boys seem witty and funny with their "off the cuff" remarks. I fast forward this - also god forbid they have "filler" sections like this week's pulling caravan's on a train track - errr yeah guys this is what I'm sure ALL the motoring public are interested in. So I can usually make my own edit of Top Gear and take an hour programme into a watchable 25-30min programme.
