  1. Only time I ever go to halfords is if i need a specific tool as their "professional" and "advanced" tools are really good quality. Other than that I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole. Their prices are always 2 or 3 times more expensive than the local discount store.
  2. When I got my zed I was 40, and had 21 years NCB. Cheapest price I could find, even after speaking to all the "specialists" on here was nearly £1000. That really shocked me as the Golf GT TDI I was using at the time was only costing me £190 fully comp, and I was getting quotes of £600 for an M3, £500 for a Porsche Boxster and even £450 for a Lambo Gallardo. So it seemed to be that the insurance companies just had something against a zed, rather than my postcode, age or NCB. Bike wise, at the time I was also only paying £60 a year to insure my R1.
  3. I think we are rifling through the bottom of the barrel now.
  4. Quite a few companies do this now. In fact my motorbike insurance company, Carole Nash have just kindly taken my full insurance premium out on the auto renewal date, despite me already paying it in full over the phone 3 days previously when I was speaking to one of their insurance advisors about my renewal price. Even more anoyingly the I actually questioned whether this would happen with the advisor who re-assured me that they wouldnt take the money out again on the renewal day. Sigh! I had the same problem before with another insurance company. I phoned up well ahead of the automatic renewal and told them I did not want to renew with them as id got a cheaper quote elsewhere. The insurance company still went ahead and took about £300 out of my account via their automatic renewal. I then had to chase them to refund me it - which took weeks, and even they they said that they "couldnt" just transfer the money back to me, they had to go through some long winded refund process which resulted in a cheque through the post for the amount.

    My 911

Very nice. Ive found myself researching 997 turbos this last few weeks.... figuring maybe I can convince the wife that its a "sensible" car as its 4wd. Just need to see if I can fit a car seat in the back for the little one.
  6. I bet it goes like shot from a gun!
  7. Hang on, so when it was imported, these guys only wanted £36k for it? And now its up for £150k? Nice bit of profit someone is hoping for!
  8. I run a Shorai Lithium battery on my Ducati. Im guessing this is something similar. They use lithium technology and even the housing is made out of carbon fibre! On my bike, the new battery actually weighted about 10lb less than the old one. It is shockingly light and half the size of the original. So much so when you pick it up you really wonder how an earth it will have enough power to turn the bike over. But it does, and it seems to start the bike a lot easier than the old battery did. On these batteries, another thing to note is that you have to be careful what charger you use as it doesnt like a lot of them - you need a special charger in some cases.
  9. Need a hefty engine stand to work on that one eh! As a side note, surprised that engine bits are still on the beach. Around my way, any scrap metal left lying about seems to vanish within minutes!
  10. Take plentyof WD40 if you do, looks like some of those nuts/bolts might be a little siezed....
  11. It used to be that no part of a tyre should be sticking out at all. Thats why all the old 1930`s hot rods people used to build in the UK had to have wheel arches covering the tyres, whereas in america they wouldnt bother. However, all the recent hot rod shows ive been to, people seem to just not bother with wheel arches at all now on their 32/34 fords etc, and go for the same look as in the USA. I dont know if the rules have changed, or if its just because 1930`s cars are now MOT exempt and they figure VOSA wont pull them up for an "vehicle safety" inspection.
  12. Id be intrequed to see what difference going from 3.5 to 3.8 would make. If you compare say the 3.5 HR engine against the 3.7 350z, theres not much in it at all, and certainly when I drove both on the road, I actually "felt" my HR was quicker! I think for the cost involved you`d be better off trying a different approach!
  13. Previous owner was shot in the car !!!!! Still, good job they have leather seats - easy job for the local hand car wash. Actually reminds me of when I was at uni. A mate had a Metro GTA and gave me a lift in it one. I asked him what the strange stain on the fabric seat I was sitting in was. He replied that he`d got the interior cheap from a scrap yard cos someone had died in that seat.
  14. 1972 was a good year, ive got a 1972 Mini in my shed! Welcome!

  18. Mines been 3 months notice in the last 3 jobs ive had and that seems to be the norm these days. As others have said, it works both ways. When I was made redundant from my last job, They had to give me 3 months money up front which was great as I found a job on a building site within 3 weeks and ended up not having to really touch my redundancy money much. It is a pain when changing jobs, but these days most new employers accept that people might be on 2 or 3 month notice periods and are prepared to wait if that person is worth waiting for.
  19. 1.17 at bar hill services this morning for normal fuel and they are normally well over priced. I fill up out near Huntingdon and mines 1.15 for both normal unleaded and diesel. About typical though. When I had my zed the fuel prices were the highest they have ever been, then soon as I sell it, the prices drop like a brick.
  20. In my old house I used some specialist garage floor paint from b&q. Cost me an absolute fortune and it was rubbish. At the new house when I moved in I got a 20litre barrel of blue polyurethane floor paint from toolstation for 50quid. I didnt bother sealing the concrete floor - just gave it the once over with the dyson, then rolled on a couple of coats of the floor paint. This was in the middle of winter, so i had some heaters on in the garage to try and help it set. I ended up only using half the barrel to do the double garage. I was in a rush to get my stuff moved in, else I would have given it another coat or 2 just to use the stuff up. That was 5 years ago and the floor still looks good. Its well easy to clean, any spills just wipe off. Only places where the paint has chipped off is when ive dropped something heavy or hammered a bit of metal on it etc. Its had quite a bit of abuse from all the welding / grinding etc as ive been working on my cars / bikes. I did consider floor tiles but didnt think they would cope well with oil / brake fluid / diesel spills etc. Also I did consider ceramic floor tiles - but thought that the weight of things like jacking the car up or having a car sitting on axle stands might crack them. Plus ceramic tiles might be a bit too slippery.
  21. When my wife took her Juke for a service at Nissan Northampton they did the same which I thought was a really nice touch. The mechanic introduced himself and showed on the video that the brake pads were getting a bit low etc. Made a nice change from not being able to believe if the mechanic is being honest or just looking for extra work. On the other hand the last time I took my zed to Nissan (different dealer) to have an aux belt changed it was a nightmare. Gave the keys to the receptionist girl who then went outside, and drove my car around to the workshop. Nothing wrong with that, but it was a bit of a shock when I dont even let the wife drive my car to have what looked like a 17 year old typical receptionist drive off in my car. Then, once it was in the workshop the mechanic started the car up and kept rev`ing it like a nut case to hear the full benefit of the K1 exhaust system I had fitted. It was only when the Garage Manager saw me watching through the window and looking like I was about to kill someone, that he promptly shat himself and after much waving at the mechanic the manager finally got him to stop. Even though the car had been booked in for weeks, they didnt think about making sure they had the replacement belt ready and then had to drive over to their parts warehouse to get the belt, then fit it etc... In the end it took them about 90minutes and cost me £100. The next time the belt went, I bought one myself (£15) and fitted it in less than 10 minutes..... ive not been back to Nissan since! Still, a service on a zed is pretty easy & basic and even the YTS lad should be able to do it...... hopefully!
  22. I simply don't like the boot line, it just seems too high in relation to the rest of the car. Yeah your right, it does seem very high. The whole styling just doesnt do it for me. I can see where they were coming from - the lines are more like the old zed cars. Of course, its all a very personal thing and what one person doesnt like, another does. The actual headlamps themselves, the HR had dual xenon which were really good and probably the same as the 370z, but as you say, the actual styling is different.
  23. As you say the 350z has a manual lock/unlock mechanism for the hood. You need to unclip it, then press the power hood button - whilst keeping foot on the brake pedal (to kinda prove you are stationary). You could by pass the brake thing, but I think the manual clip would be harder to do. The 370z on the other hand is fully electric, so you press the hood button - it unlocks the roof, then powers it down. I had a 370z roadster as a courtesy car for a few days whilst my 350z HR Roadster was in the garage and tbh I just wasnt impressed with the 370z at all. It just didnt feel as responsive or as quick as my standard HR did. I also didnt like the looks of it. It visually looked longer & narrower than the 350z, but in reality its the complete opposite - its shorter & wider. The interior was a much better place to sit in and things like the sat/nav & entertainment system was better than the OE sat/nav/stereo on my 350z. But for me, that was about it. It certainly didnt have me rushing to hand over my cash to the sales man. I didnt notice any difference between them with regards to engine/tyre noise.
  24. yea saw something about this the head of the new National Police Chiefs' Council Reckons people should not expect police to visit the scene of a crime when such crime is theft or non violent, I thought it had always been like this though. I remember having my car broken into one New Years Eve and having some stuff nicked. I phoned police and they said that unless there was any blood anywhere then they wouldnt bother coming out.
