A few more pics..... Ceramic coated manifolds now on, along with stainless big bore exhaust. Brake and clutch hard lines done. Now trying to get my head round the engine bay wiring to include a modern alternator and cooling fans.

Cheers Doogy. Bit of a dilemma to be honest. If the car is going to be stood for anything longer than a couple of months, it's not really a good idea to leave normal ethanol pump fuel in it. As an avid and loyal follower of this thread, you should probably know that it's definitely going to be stood for more than a couple of months BBK was still single when this thread started, at this rate he'll be posting pics of his grandkids! Thanks to all who continue to follow.

Engine going in. Notice the foam over everything! Front spaceframes built up Brake lines run in and lower wishbones on More brake lines and fuel line now up to filter regulator. And while we are on fuel, this is the most expensive fuel I have ever bought! Are you sitting down....... £112 for FIVE gallons. I must be mad!!! Why is it so expensive??? It doesn't contain the ethanol that every single pump in the country now has including V Power etc. You guys are probably safe but moisture attracting ethanol will destroy classic carburettors and fuel systems. Interestingly what I didn't realise was how quickly the fuel in the pumps now containing ethanol starts to degrade in terms of octane rating. The stuff in the drum above has a three year shelf life.......better crack on then. Oh and Keyser, they do 104 Octane stuff as well... You know you want some.

Onto a special dolly to help me fit it...  And back in the car.. This created a new problem and a bit of a panic! Too much unsupported weight at the back end. The solution, some stabilisers. More to follow.

I wondered when you would be on my case Doogy. Updates and pics this weekend promise. Not sure about the electric E type, and after a lot of consideration probably won't be fitting the 370 lights. I would however like to thank you for your contribution, technical input and time spent researching this particular upgrade.

Possibly the front wings behind the plastic wheel arch especially where the wing meets the bumper. Obviously make sure it's all clean first.

There already is. Try buying ethanol free fuel in the UK now. It's just cost me, £112 for 25 litres!

Great news it's finally sorted. Just playing devils advocate, but if this went to court to dispute hire costs, could they not argue that if he can now manage with a less expensive hire car why was this not the case initially? How have his circumstances changed or would he be able to argue that he was keeping costs down out of generosity given the waiting time for the new vehicle. I don't know how it works.

Just seen this Chris (M). I had a similar nightmare with MyHermes saying an item was "delivered successfully" It was only when I threatened to send them a date stamped copy of my cctv for the day of supposed "delivery" and suggested that their driver had stolen the item that they miraculously tracked it down. He'd dropped it off at an office address 10 miles away because he couldn't be bothered to do 1 drop out of his way. Had I not had that, they were not interested at all. Bunch of t@##ers! You don't have cctv by any chance? :wink:

It has caused no end of problems on the E type forum Hugh. Years of technical threads and originality guides with photos, not to mention people's restoration threads no longer available. Get the masses dependent on a product for free and then charge a fortune for it! Interesting business model. Alas Hugh we are of an age where these things frustrate us. A good old fashioned scrapbook with your restoration photos in, viewed by close friends and fellow enthusiasts, that's the answer.

If you've not got welding facilities, I would imagine it could be drilled out, the hole tapped and a threaded stud put in. Just be careful you don't drill straight through the bonnet! Wrap some insulation tape around the drill bit as a depth stop and go and buy yourself a couple of decent cobalt drill bits. The stud thread will probably be m6 or m8. Either way it certainly doesn't need a new bonnet so don't panic, it does however need fixing sooner than later as you will now be putting more strain on the one remaining fixing. All the best.

It's not so much the like for like vehicle hire replacement but the extortionate hire charge bills these accident management companies throw in. Following a non fault accident, my wife's friend had a little fiesta for 3 weeks from one of these claims companies and was shocked to see they charged nearly £700 per week with an £180 delivery and collection fee. You can rent the same car from Enterprise for £22 per day!

Wow, just seen this. Fantastic write up, build and a fitting tribute to your friend. Funnily enough I live ten minutes from those last pictures.

I manage just fine on 4 to 5 hours most nights and have done so for years with no ill effects. That hour in the morning before everyone else is in is bliss and allows me to get loads done before the phone starts ringing. I have started putting the phone on airplane mode when I go to bed and not turning it on until I've been up and had 30 minutes peace. That has been helpful and a step towards turning the damn thing off permanently.

Thanks for the kind comments guys and Chris (M) I'll keep you posted. It's really frustrating not being able to pick it up for a few weeks but I don't want to trust it to a courier on a pallet. Knowing my luck I'd come home to a soggy note saying it's "behind the wheely bin"
