  1. Theres no criminal damage there unless they did it on purpose. The threats however.. either inform the Police or just threaten to. That should hopeefully make them ameniable to pay for any damage. If you do call the Police, make sure you (or rather your misses) are prepared to go a statement and go to court. It's a pretty crap experience to have at a car wash!
  2. I've never been *caught* speeding and after doing my driving course at work im a hell of a lot better behaved in low speed limit areas. If you can do it, go and do some skid pan / stopping distance training. It's an eye opener and worth it's weight in gold for most people just by showing them what ABS is really for (letting you steer). It's also MASSIVE good fun I'm all for more stringent MOT / safety requirements (yearly, starting after 1 year) coupled with increased limits on dual carrigeways and motorways. Lower and higher speed limits where appropriate and better controls on ensuring cars are safe. It's the way forward. I'd even go as far to say that cars over a certain age shouldn't be allowed on the roads unless they can show they have been brought up to current safety standards. Having said that, we'll all be using electric hover cars soon enough
  3. Pretty much on the money. Nothing wrong with using a weapon if they don't though, all it does is factor into the 'reasonable force' concept. A concept which wasn't defined in legislation and, despite how long it has been around, it is still subject to new and changing case law judgements. 5ft 3ins, 9 stone woman .vs. 6ft, 13 stone bloke... reasonable force could be stretched quite far. The key is stopping when the threat is no longer there. I keep baby oil and viagra to hand in case of burglars. Would you want to fight a naked oiled up dude who looks happy to see you?
  4. Hit -3c last night according to the temp display on the work Astras (agree with the above comments, Astras have simply no redeeming qualities). Bikini weather.

    Toyota FT-86

I had a 190 Gen7 Celica prior to getting the Zed. Loved the car, still miss it sometimes! However, im a bit dissapointed that the new one is only producing 200bhp for £25k+. I've followed the development of the car since it was first announced and it was always going to be a RWD 2+2 with Toyota sorting out the looks and Subaru the engine and chasis etc: Stick another 50bhp and drop the price a bit.. sales would be through the roof. As it is, only 1000 a year coming to the UK. It only has 150lbs torque - the torque is the best thing about the Zed in terms of the differences between the cars! 42mpg is quite impressive and obviously it has been an important factor... wonder if a small turbo wouldn't help...
  6. Extremely accurate. Found one that I attended that sticks in my mind. Listed as a man of unknown age, but it was an 8 year old boy.
  7. Is this based on anything? In my experience, the opposite is true. Only trafic cops can prosecute for speeding offences as only they have the equipment to measure speed to evidential standards. Drink driving, careless driving and fail to stop/report an accident are far more common. I'd always encourage someone to report bad driving as soon as possible, as people have said above, a knock on the door is about the most that will / can happen unless your willing to give a statement and go to court, but the knock may make people think and it all gets recorded. As for parking up outside her house and watching her until she drives badly.. well, that may well be against the law! (surveillance - RIPA authorities etc) and the chances of having the resources to do that are nil. Im in on Friday night and I think we have 4 cops covering 50,000 + people.
  8. As above, legally, you have to report this. Do it within 24 hours of the accident. Not only is it a legal requirement, as the others have said, it covers your back too. If the guy could be tracked down then maybe you could sue him after the Police have finished their accident report. The fact that it was your door mirror that made contact points towards the pedestrian having made the mistake, not you.
  9. Most of the younger lads on my shift are doing it.. we vary from the 'Beardy McWeirdy' to the 'Baby-faced killer' with a couple who will look as though they just came from signing 'the register'.. I'm alot closer to the baby faced end so it should be a suitably crap effort! Just need to get a couple warrants sorted, 8 mustachioed coppers kicking in a door.. We'll be movie stars
  10. I've had a couple of LED Lensers now, still using the P7. It's a cracking torch and seems better than the equivilent (in price) surefires that i've seen. Good output and the bean travels quite far too, handy for searches at night. Not too big either, fits nicely in the vest pocket.
  11. That would be handy, cheers.
  12. I'm getting a whirring sound - the hub/bearing is on its way out. Any ideas on cheap replacements? Price is a factor unfortunately, im signing the dotted line for a new flat next week.. I found this one in the US Haven't had a price back from my usual mechanic yet but I assume Nissan will be prohibitively expensive as always?
  13. Those look spot on - almost exactly what im after! Again - costings would be nice. T.W.S franchises always seem to be on the expensive side
  14. Ah, sorry, I see what you mean. Yeah, I'd say most don't have insurance. Even less than with a car unfortunately. At least with a car you can take the VRM. A cop can, in a roundabout fashion, arrest someone for not providing their details, but if there are no cop's around it's a pretty poor situation to be in.
  15. Brilliant! Nice to be able to have a bit fun at work!
  16. http://www.cycleguard.co.uk/ It's available, I'll freely admit that I don't have any. However I only use my bike for commuting to work at the minute, so as soon as I start my journey I'm on duty and have public liability cover.. tenuous, but it's there. I should probably get cycle insurance. If a cyclist damages your car, they are liable..
  17. I used to get pretty pi**ed off with Cyclists.. but now I'm one of them I've got a 25min / 9 mile commute to work with a mix of roads and, given that I work 3 different shifts, a mix of traffic conditions. As someone on the first page has mentioned, I'm now probably a far more considerate and better driver for being a cyclist and I'm certainly a better cyclist for being a driver! Any cyclist running lights should be done for it unless they're on their way to p**s on a burning orphanage and in all honesty if I see any doing it whilst I'm at work I'm likely to stop them and summons them. Most of the guys and girls at work who use bikes would do the same. I can see both sides of the argument for cycle licenses and insurance - the main problem I have with that idea is that it would cost me more money and shortly followed by the fact that I, like many people, had a bike when I was a kid. I didn't have a motor vehicle though! Incidentally, cycling on the pavement is illegal and there are specific offences in the road traffic act for cyclists too. Many more people seem to be turning to cycling now, which I think is brilliant, but people need to be more aware of the law's governing cycling - lack of knowledge is no excuse for offending behavior. Cops need to do more too though. As for me personally, I look like a right idiot when I'm cycling. Day-glo clothing with reflective bandings, bright helmet and over £100's worth of lighting. I'd rather look like an idiot than look like a stain on the ground. I've seen enough cyclists severally injured by traffic at work to make me very aware at how vulnerable I am.
  18. Any ideas on what these are or cost etc? Garage just told me they had to order one from Nissan and it will be here in the morning. Idle interest mainly, but im really hoping that this will kill the VERY annoying squeak / rattle from my front nearside..
  19. Yeah it must be the Police's fault........ not whoever left it easily 'stealable'? It would have been on the ANPR system probably within 30 minutes of it being reported stolen (ie once a crime was verified) but as far as im aware ANPR cameras cannot teleport in traffic car re-inforcements? If you want to blame someone, why not try the little sc**tes that nicked it, who I fully agree will probably get a piddly little sentence if/when they are caught
  20. Could be risky.. get him to do mine first and i'll let you know how it goes!
  21. Thanks to ZMANALEX I've got my new banana arm bushing in and sorted, however no sooner than that was done and I think another has gone To the bottom and left of the drop link - is that one popped out? And are there replacement one's knocking around? I know when I had my Celica it was quite easy to find polyurethane bushings to uprate and replace with. Would something like this kit do the job? Are there other options? http://z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?model=35 ... rodid=3783
  22. I wasn't aware the Highway code had been shoe horned into the road traffic act and made into law? The very first post you find with google is this: http://www.traffic-answers.co.uk/forum/ ... opic=513.0 That's a pretty decent post. The key bit for me and the way we were taught at the little piggy training centre is: "The offence of careless driving is committed when the driving falls below the standard expected of a reasonable, prudent and competent driver" As people have said above, it is not and will never be black and white. No cop ever decides that something is 100% against the law. We just look at a situation and if we have reasonable suspicion that an offence has been committed then we will treat it as though it has - ie put them before the courts. It's then down to the magistrates to take the legal advice of their advisors and make a decision. However an on the spot fine may be suitable if the 'offender' is willing to accept one. Giving a FPN in contingent on someone accepting it. They can still choose to have their day in court. (I've just had 4 hours sleep after a 13 hour nightshift so I've probably left plenty of holes in that post for people to pick at)
  23. I don't know much about 7th gen civics (im only 90% sure I mean 7th gen... ie the gen before the current ones).. A mate has just been given the good news that his "Honda Civic Hatchback (00-05) 1.6i VTEC S 3d" needs new brakes pads and discs as well as probably needing a new clutch, oh, and some new drop links. He's considering just getting shot of it and moving forward a year with plans for an Alfa.. but his missus has got me to turn traitor on him as they just got engaged and have a second kid on the way. So are there any Civics aficionados here that could point me in the direction of well priced OEM or aftermarket replacements? Thanks
  24. I managed 39mpg on the motorway after my uprev. Im now in the process of watching it settle to a steady 24.8 mpg and falling
