  1. Well that's plain weird! Looked online today at work and couldn't see ANY of the Wales 2014 threads from Jan 4th, nor the Castle combe one...logon from home and they are visible lol!
  2. I posted a thread a while back about using the peddal-dance to get the CEL code to 'flash' on the screen. I've finally managed to get it properly checked and it's come back as "A/F Sensor 1" being faulty. My car is the HR engined twin-intake. I have a Stillen Gen 1 fitted *years* ago, and the CEL came on about 3 months ago. As a result, i reset the ECU. 200 miles later the CEL came back on. Suspecting it might be MAF related i took them both out, sprayed them carefully with carbon cleaner and allowed it to evaporate. I repeated this and also gently swabbed the fillaments with a cotton bud while wet with cleaner. Refitted to the car, did the ECU reset and......300 miles later the CEL came on again I think i might genuinely need a new (or re-conn'd) MAF sensor.....anyone know which one A/F Sensor 1 is...I'm assuming the one on the left when opening the bonnet? I also suspect Ni$$an charge £350+ for the part EDIT - full details from the paperwork on the fault: Code P2A03 - A/F Sensor 1 (B2)
  3. Another amazing result from the ZedShed, brilliant!
  4. Just read this. Shocking damage! Hope the parts arrive soon so she's back to new asap mate.
  5. Anyone else? I've signed up (which means it will snow and I'll end up arriving in Lydia's Mini Cooper!) http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=29032 Free secure parking INSIDE the arena next to the show. Very nice!
  6. Good luck for the future mate! Mind you, this is the second time you've said you were going.....and you came back pretty quickly after the first Zed was sold Maybe we'll see you at Wales 2014 in one of those new-fangled Three-Seventy-Zee things?
  7. I used the pedal-dance to tell me (in flashes) what the error code is... as best I can make out, its 11 quick flashes, then 10 quick flashes, then 3 quick flashes....before the code is ended with two much slower flashes. Sooo.... using the link to the 'error codes' on this forum I think this works out as error code - P1103 MAP Sensor Heater (11 flashes, 10 flashes =0, 3 flashes....11 0 3). I'm now off to work out what one of these is! OK - looks like the OBD II generic code is a "MAF sensor fault" or similar.. http://www.micro-tronik.com/faultcodes/obdiifaultcode_p1103.html The link mentions the following (as generic unless altered by the vehicle manufacturer): Possible failure of OBD II Fault code P1103 MAF Sensor output failure Intake Air leak EGR Valve Actuator Position Stuck I believe EGR valves are turbo-related? Which would leave me with a possible intake air leak or MAF sensor that needs a clean or is on it's way out....?
  8. *Ahem* I meant OBD II reader....not ODBC which is probably related more to Oracle Software than it is Onboard Diagnostics doh! (Post edited correctly now, sorry!)
  9. CEL light has come on three times in the last 800 miles. I've reset the ECU with the peddle-dance and it removes the light. But about 200 miles or driving later it comes back on again. The last time this happened on my old Zed was when the Y pipe and exhaust were upgraded. The lambda was mis-reading and i believe this was a known 'quirk' of an exhaust upgrade. I *think* i had new or uprated lambdas fitted but i can't recall doh! Newer Zed had Y pipe and exhaust fitted about 18 months ago so I'm a little baffled as to why the CEL is coming on now and not far sooner (if it is this that has caused it) Ideally I'd like to plug the car into someone's laptop running Consult or an OBD II scanner and get the fault code - hopefully it's a minor issues such as lambda or air intake alert. The car had a full check while it was at Mitz's in Leicester and had no errors reported back then (a few months ago) so I'm hopeful it is just a minor issue like failing lambda etc. Any help appreciated - happy to drive over to a location near-ish to Nottingham/Grantham way to save an OBD II owner the trouble of leaving their garage Cheers!
  10. My last Zed had passenger-side window issues. After taking the door card off with the assistance of Cookbot on this forum (he knows his spanners - i dont lol!) we got to the motor. It was covered in soot like deposits thus the electrical connectors (brushes) weren't working. I think i bought some spare brushes from a trader on here prior to getting the door card off. It's an ar$e of a job to do (needs 2 people really to hold window/align etc afterwards). However, simply cleaning the motors contacts and replacing brushes fixed it for me! HTH
  11. UPDATE: A few weeks of lightweight flywheel ownership CONS: It's noisy if you dont adapt your driving style at lower revs (sub 2k). It might kill my clutch/gearbox sooner than a dual-mass fly because it doesn't absorb the pulsing from the engine, instead passing it to the clutch and gearbox unless you obey the first point above. PROS: Rev happy at all times. Blipping the throttle with the clutch peddle in is lightning fast now. Acceleration feels less restricted in first and second...kinda like the rubber-band that limits throttle application has been neutered a bit. Car seems to pull a little better in all gears on WOT. Installing a lightweight fly means you will end up wanting an UpRev too..... I want an UpRev too. Noise aside, I'm glad i went with the lightweight option rather than an OEM fly. It's nice to have replaced a part due to normal wear-and-tear but also scratched an upgraditis-itch too
  12. Bit of a pointless post thus far (weather has been crap so I've not really been able to play with the car). However, thought my initial findings after having a lightweight flywheel and new OEM clutch fitted might be useful to someone. - My car is an HR engined (bonnet buldge) Zed with the slave cylinder for the clutch INSIDE the gearbox (neat idea Nissan). Given how much of an ar$e that would be to replace if it fails a few weeks after geting the clutch and fly done, a new unit was fitted at the sametime as the OEM clutch and fly - the bite-point on the peddle has shifted from its previously quite high position to mid-peddle. It also feels far smoother and easier to engage gears at any given speed (probabaly stating the obvious here lol) - the clutch peddle now feels LIGHTER than it used to do. (This might simply be the new clutch fluid) - lightweight flywheel chatter (AKA making the Zed sound even more agricultural lol). Yep, they chatter. But not really where i expected them to. At idle (at least on the HR setup) the fly doesn't chatter at all. Nor does it chatter on cold-idle (1,500rpm). However, when accelerating (under load) from 1000rpm to 1800rpm approx, there is a slight 'chatter' noise. Sounds kinda like something wants to shake itself loose from inside the bottom of the car. It's noticeable but (with the Greddy and Stillen intakes) not really that noticable. - adjusting your driving style to keep above 1800rpm at all times prevents any chatter. TBH i only hear it when pulling away from lights etc, so hardly needs to be avoided. But by adapting my driving style a little i have avoided revs dropping into that threshold when pootling along in town. - it's a lot more, erm, revvy! With the clutch depressed the RPM needle now swings violently from 750rpm to redline quicker than a quick thing that's going quick (imagine Bennet in Wales here. That sort of quick) I've yet to drive it in anger due to the weather, but i assume the acceleration from a standing or rolling start might feel a little quicker, as should in-gear pulls at other speeds. - bottom line: if your clutch needs doing, don't risk getting the old fly skimmed, just buy a new lightweight one from one of the excellent traders on this forum. Cheers to Cougar Store (great to finally meet Mitz!) for the fitting and Z Man for the parts. The car feels a lot easier to drive with a clutch and fly that aren't almost completely worn out !
  13. I ran a 2003 DE engined car. It always felt flat and lardy, held back frankly. Y pipe + plenum spacer and other basic mods and then an UpRev sorted it out nicely. I then sold her and bought a 313ps model (standard except for the LMGT4 alloys). In standard guise the 313 felt almost as responsive and nippy as the UpRev'd DE engined Zed - identical even. I'm now 2+ years into owning the HR engined Zed and wouldn't swap for a DE one unless the Road Tax became an issue (£475+ per year?) I have a lightweight flywheel and new OEM clutch to get installed. Once that is done (to delay my purchase of a 370 by another 6 month) I'm going to consider an UpRev on the HR Zed (Y pipe, exhaust and a few other mods already in place). No real idea what that will do, but for 400 quid plus the better response from the lighter fly, it ought to suffiently scratch my 'upgrade' itch for a few more months lol The DE (because all 6 banks share one air intake) really does need a plenum spacer, Y Pipe and UpRev to make it ..... right. Anyone who has done this to a DE engined Zed will know what im babbling about. As i say, the HR was 'just right' for me out of the box.....but time (and my upgrad-itis desease) has resulted in the HR getting modded over time.
  14. Fited mine yesterday. Had to remove the thinner boot carpet (i had both in place, thin with thick on top). Fits really well when inserted from behind the drivers seat (front of the strut brace). I'll have a go at fitting it with both carpets in place and report back (but TBH the thinner carpet is crap anyway so no great loss removing it). Great piece of work Ian. Very impressed with it. It also passed the girlfriend test; "That looks really good"
  15. The Zed does seem to garner attention of the positive kind. Only the other week me and Lydia were driving down the A14 towards the M1 when this chap in a convertible roared past us, then pulled into lane one and waved for us to drive past him. I instantly assumed he wanted to hear the Greddy exhaust so we pulled out and floored it past him. We pulled into lane one and he roared past us in lane two letting us hear his aftermarket exhaust on full chat. This reapeated for a number of miles until we got to the M1 interchange at the end of the A14. The chap in the convertible (he was wearing a dark green beanie) roared past us underneath the M1 - sounded great! Hang on a second.........do we know the chap in the convertible?
  16. Tried to upload a few videos but PhotoBucket seems to not understand the concept of HD...I'll try YouTube later on.
  17. More pics...in no real order....but Pit Crew first!
  18. That was nice! What was your route home from there..M6 or back down M1? We noticed from the map that there isn't an easy way south on the M1 at that junction (I don't think)
  19. http://www.donington-park.co.uk/events/2013/08/31/superstars-gt-sprint-and-auto-gp-championships/ Me, Lydia and a few mates are going to Donington on Sunday Sept 1st. It's £20 advance booking (possibly a bit more on the day). This allows access to all the spectator areas at Donington with the exception of the VIP areas and Grandstand. We last went to the BTCC Touring Car event and it was a great day, especially if you have an SLR camera! We'll most likely move from position-to-position around the whole circuit during the day to get different angles/picture opportunities etc. Let me know if anyone fancies meeting up at all on the day.
  20. GLWTS! I've seen this car in the flesh a few times and it's wonderful. Really good condition, the best colour (Midnight Blue) and also has the (first time i've seen it in a Zed) Frost Leather. [The last time i saw frost leather was in my 2000MY 200sx!] This car deserves to go to a good home. Sad that you need to sell her; a car this nice won't be for sale for long i don't think!
  21. How much lighter can you make the Zed? To me it felt perfect on the straights and thru the twisties. Brakes were epic too! Maybe if you can get an extra few HP from the SC install, and lose some weight from the car, you might not bother looking elsewhere..?
  22. Really like the Stillen too! I have to admit Lydia and me were laughing at how much fun we had just randomly slowing down to let you past, then over taking again, each time hearing your exhaust howl or mine Im not sure what the general public made of the noise but i thought it was great!
  23. I'll try to put a few of the videos i took up. The GoPro footage in-car with Darren is 2Gb tho, so that's probabaly not going onto You Tube for a while yet doh! (It's a cracking video though with expert commentary from Will Brundle and Darren Walker )
  24. Hi Ian. I'd like to order one if that's ok. Black with Z logo would be ideal. PM me the payment options/details and I'll sort payment out when it's ready. These look really impressive!
