  1. Ahhh! Perhaps this is the issue? maybe it has snapped *inside* the caliper? If this has happened, am i fubar'd? Or could it be drilled out and a new nipple attached?? EDIT - already answered by Phil in ludicrously quick time! Thanks again!! ^^^^^
  2. Cheers Phil! I will give this part number to them.... will see what they say. The will probably tell me its coated in Unicorn horn and will cost me 900 quid anyway lol
  3. Took the car in to get the brake fluid changed. Got a call a few mins back to say the bleed nipple on the rear caliper has been snapped off (by the garage). System was only half bled, so its half new and half old fluid = hardly ideal! £900+ for a new rear Brembo caliper from Nissan. I'm chatting to the garage again shortly to see what they are prepared to do - apparently the nipple can't be ordered seperately...? Can anyone shed light on what they have done? Here's an overview: 1 - bled the two fronts. Put new fluid in the reservior. 2 - tried to bleed rears - one nipple snapped 3 - said that nipples should be greased regulrly to prevent them snappng (is this true?) Is this even the correct bleed order for the nipples? I thought it should be rear, front, rear, front? Do the nipples need to be greased? The calipers are kelpt clean - the cover on the nipple is always checked (by me) when i wash the car. Never been missing, loose etc. I'm worried they are going to try and fob me off (hopefully not!). I fail to see how its my fault? If the nipple was too hard to turn, then surely i ought to have been called and asked if i wanted them to proceed with the work? Thoughts appreciated all.
  4. What a great day it turned out to be! In all there were 24 cars active on the airstrip. My 350z, an RX8, and 22 MX5's of varying guises (SC'd, Turbo'd, track-prepared, bog standard etc) The airfield was split into two - top part being an advance track. Bottom half for beginners. There was also a seperate mulch-wood drift track. Cars were allowed to go to any section of the track to participate - just join the queue then have your go. Minimal tyre wear. Minimal brake wear. I dont think i got above 70mph - the courses were more about maintaining speed thru the curves and controling any slide on the sweeping turns. It was the first time i have driven the 350 in anger and it was a real eye opener! The traction control is excellent. Even on the mulch-wood surface which offered little grip, the TC was up to the job. As soon as i turned it off.......sliiiiiiiiiide and donut Shows just how vital TC can be on poorer surfaces. All-in-all a very good day. Only used a quarter tank of fuel. No tyre damage, no knackered brakes, nowt. I also had a few goes at controlling a power slide on the main circuit - harder than it looks I have to say. However, i did manage to hold a wee slide, and also learned how to recover from such an incident correctly. All good stuff. The lads that run these MOT sessions are very laid back and very helpful. Best 80 quid i have spent on the track ever i think Piccies if anyone wants a look. The 350 looks nice! They also caught multiple pics of my power slide and recovery which also look cool http://www.phoenixfives.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2330&sid=86e339dabeba2787070183cc1ab4e670
  5. I'm not planning to use the drift track (which is soaked with water) in any anger. I will be focusing on the slalom track which looks like a good test of car control. I'll be trying some oversteer on the drift track purely to try and learn what to do when the back end snaps out. It isnt something im happy *ever* attempting on a public road. I dont think there will be any undue stress placed on the diff or tyres given the slippy surface. Hopefully whatever i learn i'll never have to use in the real world....but if i ever do get cuaght out maybe i will react correctly and save my car/myelf from a nasty bump ? At the moment i still think in a FWD manner - off the power, turn in. I doubt this is correct for a RWD car when the back end steps out. TBH you'd think i'd know what i was doing after nearly 4 years of RWD Nissan ownership lol What's this other forum you speak of? Nissansomethingz?? Never heard of 'em
  6. Justy popped a post on the **REMOVED** site about this too - www.mazdaontrack.co.uk Im booked (with the 350z) on the slalom/drift course this Friday, Oct 17th. Sounds like fun! A mate runs an MX5 and mentioned the session to me. I should be able to try out oversteer safely - and hopefully learn what to do when the ar$e end steps out in the wet ! The gf is after an MX5, so i guess she should have fun to lol Anyone else fancy popping along? A few places left i think..
  7. I turned up with the gf about 1pm on Satdee. I think i scared some folks with the insane ESR K1 exhaust (minus the bungs of course!) Lovely meet - some very silly 300zx's there (i assume everyone saw our resident East Mids local 300 nut Vinz there in his awesome red 530bhp zx?) I say 'silly' in the mahoosively modified sense - stunning to look at and i bet they go like stink! I think i met: Martin (black soft top 350) and his wife (cheers for the stickers!) Vinz and his insane 300zx Dave and his 5zigen kitted grey 350 (neodc?) The chap from down south in his 05 plate GT4 (loving the alloys!) Apologies - im crap with names! Other members of the 300 and 280 crews. Some sweet cars - I liked the older 'Datsun' with the RB26 implant! Who else did i meet? Do i need a quieter exhaust?? Did Martin get back from the gig later satdee night??? Kudos to neodc for mentioing Silverstone on Satdee. Apologies for not returning to the meet on sunday, but me and the gf ended up getting our ears destroyed by the Le Mans series cars at Silverstone on the sunday - a top day to follow a top afternoon the day before chattin with you lot! Cheers all!
  8. I can squeeze 40 mpg from mine sitting at just under 60leptons in 6th with Cruise on. At 80mph (continent of course!) it will average 32mpg+ (again in 6th with cruise on) These are figures gleaned from resetting the trip MPG clock, then cruising for at least 10 miles so the MPG levels out. And yes - aggresive urban or agressive B road driving = 15MPG or less
  9. Came back from my folks house thru Stoke on Saturday evening - with the bungs out. I pulled over into the left-side lane on the A500 dual carriageway into Stoke to let a biker come past me - i was doing about 60mph. Ten seconds later i noticed he hadn't come past me. I look to my right, and the bloke is level with me on his R1 - one hand cupped to the side of his helmet where his ear would be - then he gives me the thumbs up and waves me on to make the exhaust roar even more Had to chuckle! GF thought is was cool too. Had a play (legal, or course) with him and his mate into Stoke - obviously no match for the bikes, but they slowed twice to allow me to catch up just so they could hear the exhaust note, which i thought was bloody nice of them Got a thumbs up again when they pulled off the carriageway closer to Stoke too
  10. Finally fixed! After replacing both REAR anti-rollbar links, they have finally tried replacing the FRONT off-side link... (funny, i said the clunk came from the front!) Anyhoo - clunk is gone! Looks like a shiity £38 anti rollbar link end was the issue. Paperwork from Nissan on Hayden Rd in Notts says "O/S/R anti rollbar" has been changed (rear again - must be a typo!) Fair play to Nissan tho - the dealership have been very apologetic and haven't charged me for the anti-rollbar on the rear that didnt need to be replaced, nor the labor for it. (One of the links on the rear was an MOT issue tho so i was happy to pay for that) So all-in its cost me £140 i think for three new anti-roll bars (lol) and labor. Not too bad for a stealership. Thumbs up for Hayden Rd Nissan (Sunwin) in Notts.
  11. Only clunks when i hit a small bump in the road. Its fine under accel/braking. Sleeping policemen, un-even surfaces cause the clunk most noticeably.
  12. Silly question - is it first come, first served for a space at the event? Or is the list relevant to who's car gets a spot to park in some way-shape-or-form...? Oh, and i want it added to the record that Steve Burns "dropped me nine places" Terrible. Where's my lawyer...?
  13. The car has had a clunk from the front since i bought it. It's audible from the outside of the car too. Seem to originate from the CAT/engine bay area by the sounds of it. A mate of mine has given it a thorough look at on the ramps at his garage. (The bloke is a TVR nut and is constantly fixing things on his Tuscan whilst working for Renault during the day). He couldn't find anything obvious with the front of the car. Suspension, anti-roll bars etc all looked tight with no play in them. Car was in at Nissan Notts to get a key cut the other week. I asked them to check for the noise - they said it was definitely the anti roll bar links. Week later said links were replaced - at the REAR OF THE CAR!!! Doh!!! Car is back in AGAIN to get the F R O N T of the car investigated Ive given them the TSB for the known clunk issue on 03/53 cars (TSB 088a i think). Also suggested to them to check the sway-bar link ends too. Anyone any other ideas of what might be knocking/loose...? Bit at my wits end with it now, and paranoid something will snap at speed in the future if i dont locate the source of the noise

  15. Name and shame the Stealership - its a bit naughty asking you to pay for an hours labour so they can tell you the fob needs a new battery and a re-sync! That should be what they try first time and if it doesnt work *then* they start to consider charging you for investigating the fault!
  16. I only paid 12k for my uk GT spec car in Feb this year. Managed to get the seller down nearly 2 grand through waiting and haggling over things like the the skipping CD player, single key, dodgy original battery etc etc. I think i will have paid out about £400 in total once i get this work done to have all the 'faults' that resulted in a 2k drop in price sorted out I messed about with the spare key on my 200sx myself (ie i had to buy a spare key and get it cut, immobiliser set etc). It proved to be a real pain in the a$$ so i swore i would pay the stealership to do it all for the Zed. I wasnt aware they were going to wash it - they seem to have one of those soft brush/leather stripped car washes. It doesn't appear to have done any damage to the paint, but doubtless i will be using Megs Clay Bar and then some polish later this summer anyway lol
  17. All fixed! The new battery was apparently fine, the fob just needed to be re-coded. I have sod all idea how it stopped working in the first place - maybe the old battery did die. Only cost £38 AND they washed my car for me! Big thumbs up for Sunwin Nissan on Hayden Rd in Nottingham! Very good - im still shocked at how friendly and cheap they were for a stealership! I have the car booked in for next week to get a spare key (with integrated fob) cut and coded. That will be £130ish iirc. I'm also going to look at getting the track rod ends replaced on the front - looks like these are the source of my insessant 'rattle' when i go over a bump. Think these were £155 fitted. Not sure if i will use Nissan for this bit tho, parts are only 50 quid and i have a mate who will probably do these on his lunch break at his garage for a lot less...
  18. Its the integrated key with two buttons on the handle part. I'll see what Nissan say but i reckon its fooked and i'll need a new one. I think i'm happy with the 260 quid if it all goes smoothly drop-off and pick-up car in one day. Will post up the results!
  19. The car is booked in with Nissan in Nottingham (Sunwin - in Sherwood). Best case is the fob just needs a re-sync - £43. New fob + resync £145(ish) 2x new fobs plus new key cut = £260(ish) Ive warned them that i want a call if it's more than a simple re-sync so i can evaluate options. I guess the full 260 squid isn't too bad given that i will have a new key and 2x new fobs... Ta for all the responses so far - much appreciated!
  20. I dont have a spare key or fob - this is one reason why i was able to barter the previous owner down in price lol! I have been quoted £299 for a decent Clifford alarm from a local firm that fitted said alarm to my old 200sx three years ago. I suspect (if it is more than a dead fob) that this will be cheaper than what Nissan charge to sort out some new fobs and re-program etc! TBH all i need from Nissan is a spare key + immobiliser sync done. But i will call them Monday and find out prices. Hopefully the fob is bust and just nmeeds replacing...? Cheers for the offer of assistance Toon Chris! Sadly i only have one key so posting it (to Newcastle..?) isnt really viable
  21. The fob stopped working last week. I got back to the car and it was unlocked in a car park (which was odd). Fob refused to lock or unlock the car. Had to use the key in the lock which thankfully works fine (albeit i have to turn the ignition on to shut the alarm up after opening the car door lol!) The fob has now had a new battery - same issue. It refuses to do anything. Any ideas? I will call Nissan tomorrow and try to get it booked in for a look. I'm worried that the car unlocked itself after i locked it - and that upon my return the fob didnt work. Im suspecting perhaps the actual alarm is borked in some way? Oh yeah - my first post on this Zed forum! Hello!! Im normally over at **REMOVED**, but there seems to be a pretty good tech forum here too!
