It'll be a classic......fact.

It's a raw and muscular (just how Dave likes them) looking car.....they always end up classics.

It'll be a VERY long time though because honestly (sorry boys) it's rapidly becoming the chav car of choice. If Max Power and 'Cruises' were still in vogue it would be all over it.

In regards to what's "fast" is all a matter of opinion to a degree. I don't think you need to do a certain speed in order to ascertain what might be fast. I've driven up to 130 mph on a private road and that was fast for me. Perhaps for F1 drivers that's pedestrian. I think any car that has a 0 - 62 speed of 6 seconds can be considered a quick car, but again that's just my opinion. Compare the Glanza which is supposed to be a "6 second car" that's a 1.3 turbo and as light as a fart, the 350z as we all know has a considerably larger engine and weighs a lot more that a fart, perhaps a turd. Either way I think a standard Glanza would probably give a zed a good run for its money in a straight line and definitely round the bends. Maybe in that respect the Zed is not all that quick as you might expect more from a thumping 3.5 V6. They are both quick cars for very different reasons.

curious how you say that about the glanza looking at youtube videos most glanza with light tuning run a early 15 second pass most 350z are running a late 13 early 14 second passes, and stock for stock round a track a 350z would walk over a glanza

Totally agree about the chav car of choice, the forum is such a different place these days, fortunately enough old farts still here to have a laugh with :)

No, not at all

There have always been heavily modded Zeds about, it is the older cheaper cars being bought and people just trying to make them loud :headhurt:

I met a guy yesterday with a brand spanking 370 nismo that referred to mine as a classic.

Think you'll always pay a premium for a good one but there are a lot of examples about now for very little cash which some people seem unable to differentiate from the genuine clean examples

I definitely think a 350z is destined to be a future classic. I mean, you don't see many of them on the roads as it is, imagine how rare they will be in 20 years time. I suspect now that prices are coming down they will be used and abused by a younger audience, which will inevitably see some being wrecked, or others having high mileages put on them, and modifications will start to come in.

in a few years an early, non modified low mileage car in a desirable colour will be worth a lot. Especially when the big NA engine has completely died and been replaced by small displacement turbo hybrid units. Also rust will start to eat away at most Jap cars on UK shores, so a clean rust free example will be worth a lot.

Its just starting to happen with 300ZXs now, there are a lot of dogs out there at the moment for sale for dirt cheap, but most are not far away from engine failure or rust. soon there will only be cherished low mileage cars left, and then they will start to appreciate as the numbers dwindle even further.

Hooray! I am officially a chav, at the ripe old age of 51. I'll trade my leather Aussi bush hat for a burberry cap immediately. Tend to shop at Sports Direct for some outdoor gear but looks like I will be heading for the trackie section now.

Having recently myself from Rx7 ownership for this reason (amongst others) i think the 350 is a bit of a way off yet, £3k and below is chav territory if you ask me.

2nd hand parts value is still strong and you havent had a plethora of imports flooding the market (like scoobs, evos, rx7's etc), but with the exchange rate rising against the yen, who knows if that will all kick off again, i would bet the 350 is now very cheap in Japan, probably along with 370's to be fair.

Chav or not though, maybe its not a bad thing, mk1 & 2 escorts, sierra cosworth and a fair few others were considered the chav car of choice or equivalent boy racer as they were known.

I guess it depends on your definition of classic so to speak.

Will the 350z at some point gain classic status, perhaps have a following as the 240z does, i would probably say yes.

Will the 350z become an appreciating classic with the values increasing, no, well not for a long long time!

If you take a view of what jdm cars of the 90's are classic or an appreciating classic, you can only really pick the NSX, perhaps ltd edition v spec gtr's, both relatively low production number cars, there is not even much from the 80's, only example i can think of is the AE86, but i wouldnt say they were appreciating like the NSX. 70's is a different story though, quite a few high value jdm cars.

At some point values will reach a trough and possibly rise to a peak as good clean examples are hard to find and values will probably get closer between the 370z and 350z imho, but they are only just over 10 years old. This topic was widely discussed about Rx7's on the dedicated forums and they are 10 years older again and values are still not rising, firming up, but not rising.

You need to be thinking Supra, R32, R33 Gtr's, good examples are still fetching a premium and think how many of them were made. I get the GTR thing (pedigree, heritage etc) but Supras, there is nothing really ground breaking or brilliant about Supras (i have had 3), but they obviously have the cult following which drives the 2nd value, so i think there could be hope for the 350z :)

This.

I was going to post a proper reply but, just this.

Im in 2 minds as to whether they will ever start to go up in value or not. This has been talked about on her many times before. Some cars like old fords, even though they were mass produced seem to be going up in value like mad, other cars, even if rare, just arnt. Only time will tell I guess.

In the short term though, I think the price of zeds seem to have have found a bottom level. I dont see any for less than £4k->£4.5k. Looking at my old HR Roadster, that was £34k new I think, and I bought it when it was 4 years old for £16k, so it had dropped £18k in just 4 years which is 4.5k a year. I had it 18 months and sold it for £9k, so again it dropped about £4.5k a year in the time I had it. In general, the older the car gets, it seems the less it drops in value each year, so id expect the depreciation for the current owner & future owners to reduce each year until it hits about £5k, (maybe more as the HR Roadster holds a premium over basic ones). I cant see it getting below that.

But then again, look at Porsche Boxsters 3.2s. The other year when Wheeler Dealers bought one for £1000, you could pick them up for about £1500 on ebay. Now the cheapest ones are £2500 upwards. Maybe they have hit the bottom and are on the way back up, but on the other hand, if you can get a boxster for £2500, maybe zeds will also end up dropping to similar prices at some point.

Who knows really!!!

I would suggest they only reason something like that would rise in value is just sheer numbers left, let alone good quality ones. Also comes down to repairs, how much would it cost to carry out repairs on a Boxster, at the point where its a grand or so its disposable if something serious goes wrong.

My Rx7 was worth more in parts than a whole, i got back £7k in parts on a car that was worth half that as a whole if i was lucky, ok it some some quality parts beyond standard but general stuff like wheels, exhaust, coilovers netted good return!

I would be more concerned at the 350s value if the import scene kicks off again, i was buying at high 170s early 180s and upwards, its at 173 as off today from 120 - 130 a few years ago. I would be even more concerned if i owned a 370 on that basis though, that also goes for gtr's, i have seen them for sale at £20k in Japan through trade outlets, would be even cheaper through the big auction houses over there!

I see Dave was whacking my comment about demand for a fast car, to consider the zed as slow is just trolling. Yes the base spec £30K bmw 135 msport will beat it, as will the Merc AMG a class at £45K and even the value for money new Leon at £27 odd or whatever it is. Don't quote me on the prices but take the EP3, they still seem to be holding a fair value with age because as a fast road or track car they are still worth buying. They aren't fast by your standards either but still not dropping in price :)

not that i wanna **** on your bonfire, but you can get a ep3 early model with high but correct on a 12k yearly average miles etc for around 1.5k few years back 2012ish they were 3-4k but try getting a EK9 or Dc2 for that money no chance, but the EP3 is bad example and they are true Chav chariots,

saying that they whole honda scene seem to have shifted that way over the last year years, 5-7 years ago horrific cars driven well 3-4 years ago it was tasteful car driven well now its tasteful (minus the plastidip and cheap nasty stickers) cars driven like morons,

Sorry I shouldn't have based my argument on the EP3 but what I was saying is that car will never be scrap value cheap as forgetting the baseball cap, big exhaust and vtec yo image, its still a fairly fast and fun car. If they start dropping under 1K then I will be getting one as a run around to stop putting miles on my Zed!

a quick Parkers says they value from £1500 - 5450 which isn't bad for 01- 05.

I do take your point about the DC2 and EK9 though

It's not a fast car, it's a big heavy beautiful GT cruiser.

Maybe it's because I'm old and therefore have an historical perspective but...0-60 in 5.6/5.7 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph isn't exactly slow. However, one thing I do agree with isn't the Zed doesn't "seem" that fast - I have no idea why it's so deceptive.

I can't be bothered to look up the figures but I would suspect that most "normal" hot hatches can't match those figures but often feel fast.

Pat Doran's Hydrex sponsored Rallycross Supercar was properly fast (but slightly less practical) B) and marginally more expensive.

Speed/ fast is at the discretion of the driver personally anything that run a 1/4 in sub 14 seconds i would class as fast

Just for clarity a gallardo or a 360 only run about a 12.5-12.9 stock
