ostego Posted January 15, 2014 Share Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) Hi, Went to john kleis today as im looking to get a new head unit fitted into my 03 350z gt. The price breakdown is : £349 for the pioneer X2600BT head unit £75 for parts, inc fascia, cables etc £150 for estimated 3 hours labour They say it takes 3 hours as it is obviously difficult to fit the unit, etc and then to get it looking flush and right it also requires an extra hour or so to make it all look good from the front. The main thing is the 150 in labour.... is it a difficult job for a electrical novice, and someone with little know how... and is it difficult to get it all looking neat and tidy after fitting? Ekona Posted January 15, 2014 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Personally I think it's a piece of cake, but then I did mine without any issues at all following the handy guides on here. I scratched the centre console a little lifting it in and out, and the mounts never fitted quite right, and the wiring was a mess, but it worked. If I'd come up against a major issue (like some have) then it would've been highly unlikely that I could've solved it with my fat thumbs. HARMLU Posted January 15, 2014 Share Posted January 15, 2014 If they know what they are doing, it will not take 3 hours. Electrically wise, you don't have to be an electrician, just know how to plug on set of wires to another. It is a fiddly job, but not difficult. The only complication lies in lining the unit up. Seems like quite a split opinion on whether it is worth it or not! Could get a good head unit and parts for £300 all in if i fitted it myself, so the £150 labour does also come with an extra £125 in costs effectively! Have a look at some online guides/youtube videos. It's really not as hard or scary as you may think when fitting a new head unit. Once your old head unit is out, you will be left with some cables. Those cables will then plug into your adapter. They will only go in one way/colour coded etc. If you're lucky it will just be one lead that goes into the adapter. Then the adapter goes into the head unit Then push the head unit into the cubby Fit Fascia Job done, then spend £150 else where Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Z head unit is pretty easy to fit TBH and I personally would just do it myself. Use Busters guide and you can get a decent sound! Carrie-B1 Posted January 15, 2014 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Ostego, I got mine from Car audio security, give the guys a ring they were really helpful, got me all the bits i needed and I took it to a place in Northern Ireland (Audio Advice I know, no good to you) but they had it fitted in just over an hour and half (£70) and said the surround that came with it was the best they had ever seen as usually aftermarket head units in the 350 don't fit flush with the dash.
