WhackyWill Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I spent a few hours cleaned my Zed properly last weekend, Been away for a few days, so this evening as I was going out, the windscreen had a few leaves on it, so rather than getting out and removing them I used my windscreen washers...WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON..you know what's coming next...The headlight washers have covered the Zed completely in washer fluid , bonnet roof, boot complete car., (and my sons Golf which was parked next to it). Job this weekend ..re-clean both cars and write a "sticky" and put it on the dash. "Don't use the screen washer with the headlights on"..!! Quote
Jp606 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I was actually thinking this earlier, I always end up with a dirty windscreen until I can stop and turn the headlights off and use the screen washers carefully so it doesn't get on the bodywork. The headlight washers cover the entire car in washer fluid which makes a right mess! 1 Quote
Wasso Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I had mine removed with the V2 so don't need to worry. Quote
GMballistic Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I never knew it did it until one fateful night. It is a stupid feature. Quote
WhackyWill Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 I never knew it did it until one fateful night. It is a stupid feature. I knew it, just "brain fade" as I didn't use the washes much during the Summer .. :surrender: Quote
GMballistic Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Do you think it would be possible to hook up a separate washer bottle for the head light washers? That way we could just fill it with liquid car wax & it will wax the car for us every time we wash the windscreen at night when the lights are on. 1 Quote
Jp606 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I wish there was a switch to disable them. Quote
350 Russ Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 easy peasy! take off the front bumper (don't worry not at all scary or hard) and unplug the motors that control the headlight washers. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/48292-how-to-remove-front-bumper/ Quote
KyleR Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Unfortunately the law here states I have to have washers, so keep an eye out in the next couple if weeks for the first V2 with washers fitted. Either that or a thread about April with me ranting about the stupid mot regulations here! Quote
peteman35 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Stupid design the amount of times I have done that is stupid... The best one is get in start car, turn on head lights, go to press esp off... Hit the headlight washer button... Quote
AMT Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I found this out last year lol Theres a thread by someone on it. I don't use the washer fluid as much in winter now, a tiny bit if that so my motor is not covered in white lol. Quote

Carrie-B1 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I bent the water tube under the brake fluid cover and put a cable tie on it, no water going to the washers messing my car and when mot time came just cut the cable tie and they work perfect and re cable tied after mot lol Quote

WhackyWill Posted November 23, 2013 Author Posted November 23, 2013 Just spent 2 hours cleaning both cars from the results of the "stupid" headlight washers.. Now its started raining..cannot win... Quote

Either that or a thread about April with me ranting about the stupid mot regulations here! Where do you live?? Norn Iron, mate Regs are a little different here with the DVA compared to the DVLA on the mainland. Yours states something to the effect of "cars fitted with xenon lights may have headlight washers and where fitted must function correctly." Whereas the regs here are something like "cars fitted with xenon lights must have headlight washers..." There has already been cases of Evo's and BMW's that left the factory 10 years ago with xenon lights and no washers failing the MoT, even though it wasn't a requirement back then, so they were produced without them. The only way to get an MoT is to get a ferry to Scotland and have it done there, or buy another set of lights. Quote
Richf Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Yeah read about this , saw some Evo owners with pipe work taped to the bumper just for the mot . My r34 had xenons but no washers and not self levelling either but not an issue over here Quote
cs2000 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Is uk law too that if you have HIDS you must have headlamp washers and self levellers Quote
KyleR Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Is uk law too that if you have HIDS you must have headlamp washers and self levellers To the best if my knowledge and what I've read here a few times, it only states that if you have washers, they must work Quote

Asked MOT guy and he said not a problem. If they had washers though - they need to work / as does self leveling (the disco dance thingy that lights do on start up). Quote
Richf Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) No it's not UK law to have washers and self levellers as stated many cars never had this feature Edited November 25, 2013 by Richf Quote
