My dad gave me a hand today to drill the holes and rivnut the rear arch on, also marked up the line I need to cut for the front arch. . . . there will be a lot of cutting involved to make it look good, which isn't good as both parts aint cheap :surrender:

Side skirts were on and off again, need some more sanding and a bit of drilling to increase the arch winglet attachment holes.

I have really enjoyed reading the entirety of this thread.

Kudos for undertaking all the work yourself. I have to admit though, I am envious of your determination and workmanship. Keep it up though fella. I'm looking forward to reading more from this project :victory:

This is painful! So much respect to Brian McCann for doing this combo right. I just don't have the skills or time so its not going to look pretty. :blackeye:

If I have time I will use filler to blend the gaps better, but looking unlikely for now.

The top left section will be cut to follow the lines of the Amuse wing vents but I plan to keep the fang with a spacer behind and bolt it to the sideskirt blade thing to help keep things rigid.

Won't have nice flowing lines

my advice, don't rush it , I know Japfest is very close and as me ,we both want our cars ready but rather then compromising the quality of your build for a stand day is not worth it

I am pushing to get mine ready as well but I am 100% sure it will not be fully ready but hey at least I hope the weather will be good and all have a great day plus hopefully by next show may look even better :stir:

looking very interesting though so far...I am jealous on that kit you got

Thanks guys, the main worry is that my wheels don't fit right, unfortunately the eta is basically from now to a week after japfest =( so can't really tell how well they will fit as I can't leave the bodywork until they arrive as it will be too late. Just going to keep plugging along, waiting on my reverse camera so can't fit the rear yet and the stereo so everything is happening sporadically.

Ive got the lapping tool and paste, just not the time  Yours will be harder as I can at least drive mine even if it looks like a bag of sH@t

The plan was to have my engine built too for japfest but that was just crazy thoughts :bangin:

Today's work, aligning the other side.

17795837_10158541016540441_7792501356820219791_n.jpg?oh=ad63424ad54d51cc9811c9c45cc3bd43&oe=599131F4

cutting the fang so it lined up better.

17796299_10158541017620441_4341602492560340838_n.jpg?oh=91f864df194b4942b71549f60ad5a96d&oe=5998E404

under sealing the rivnuts so no water gets in between the skins.

17796356_10158541019910441_3400290686486912743_n.jpg?oh=e1bd42c523a6bd1fd55c79357917c37d&oe=5963011A

final positioning and rivnut the front sections.

17799189_10158541019495441_2362110872072706876_n.jpg?oh=4d5a089d77509f37feb9b5e53f7cfc21&oe=595C0C6F

I can live with the gap but might do some filler work later.

17796398_10158541020855441_2102587999256724666_n.jpg?oh=0a0de0104c9598528fd7918654dde331&oe=594DA0EC

still to fit the last rear section on this side, should align fine as the rear bumper is oem and designed for this kit.

17760161_10158541019880441_4861663722209577454_n.jpg?oh=d059aab1e09060d2ec9b49eb9757716a&oe=59539C80

The other side should be easier now I know what to do and compare it to something.

Next big job will be the spray painting then wrapping it all

Megan BGW is a  been trying lots of things to fill the gap on the stands as they are designed for flat tailgates. Ended up hacking up a chopping board but its taken 3hours to do just one side as its not great to sand and the dremel is hard work to cut it correctly.

Grams styling diffuser  also sh#@ no instructions no hardware, the brackets are not the same as the top secret one that it is a copy of so will have to make my own and cut the thing up as there is no way it will fit with my exhaust... its like its been built for a single exit backbox exhaust

Stereo is nice and the rear fog lights have now been wired correctly, also mounted the new boot release and number plate lights... no sign of the reverse camera from china so wont be fitting that

Don't want these coming off so a few bolts to hold them on, plan to sort the gap after japfest with filler but no time and it shouldn't show.

The missus chopping board got hacked up... the megan wing is built for a flat tailgate so having to make angled packers and this was the best thing i could think of that would stand up to the forces/weather

stuck a rubber strip under it as well for good measure... just hope it sprays black otherwise its something else to wrap :surrender:

This is the duff side that needs a bit more work + some 65mm m6 bolts

Wow, there must be an easier way to clean your paint gun  been a steep learning curve with the gun getting clogged up with paint, lesson learn't dismantle the gun and clean all the internals :surrender:

I also thing the primer is too thick and the nossel too small for it, been changing the amount of thinner but still not got it right.

ended up putting my filter high up to allow easier spraying and collection of water.

after two coats, a sand of the mess up second coat I have ended up like this on a third.

18010706_10158620411620441_1276243883955386813_n.jpg?oh=f8f3ccba13e5a53613af17af81d023ba&oe=597D47C4

Also ran out of space fast,

whats the best idea to do next;

1. sand all the parts with 800 wet and dry, wash with clean water and spray 1 or two coats of lacquer, then wrap.

2. spray with one or two coats of lacquer and wrap,

3. wrap and hope it sticks to the primer

4. do I have to sand before i wrap anything???

Bummer, just ran out of wrap and ebay seller won't deliver till friday  own fault should have checked how much i had left, hope to buy some off a local car wrapping shop but won't have time to wrap all the panels  I will have to make do with black primer or hopefully the tin of matte black paint that should be here tomorrow.

Still no wheels  but Adrian has kindly helped me out with some 30mm front and back torqen spacers so it won't look totally stupid.... hopefully.

Fingers and toes are crossed the wheels arrive but I would still need to get tyres on them too!

So I had a lot of up's and down's today, mostly the latter.

-

Just heard from Vossen, wheels won't be here.... for months

My paint gun decided to break mid spray, nozzle has a split. The primer is too thick even with thinners.

I was running out of paint until 5pm when the courier showed up with my satin black basecoat. . . that is shiny and I don't have time to sand

Wrapped the rear quarter with the aerial snub still on the car..... bad idea, ended up having to start again and remove the dam thing.

Wing mirrors ain't getting wrapped as I need too much force and will probably snap them off and I don't have time to take the doorcards off again to remove them.

+

My new 1.3 nozzle burisch lvlp gun is 10x better that the freebe i had been using and luckily arrived today.

wired up the 370z indicators

getting better at spraying  shame all the parts look pants as they need a good long sand to get them all level/old runs out.. no time so please don't spit at my car in disgust at japfest.

The plan tomorrow is assemble it all and deal with the problems that WILL arise.

Friday = wash car, learn to use iphone :wheelchair: for new stereo, pack bag, remind my mate I will be crashing at his on sunday night.
