When ever it's ready keep an eye on here.

I would caution that I only have one air fed mask - Bob has managed about 15 minutes with the fly mask on while I'm spraying clear coat then you start to smell it but clear coat is bad for hanging in the air basecoat is is much cleaner when sprayed (well it is for me anyway)

But welcome to come along and see how not to do it :)

I think I'd just buy a mask to bring along if it's that bad! :)

I reckon Brickyard would suit a Mini better than Sunset. :stir:

That would look great B)

I think you need to buy some new Paint, but don't worry you will be able to use up the ginger on bobs car as I am sure he wants more stuff sprayed

So I don't get in to trouble for spending too much time on the Zed's, I did a bit more on the Mini tonight

Started by masking of the areas that have grommets, pipes or parts that bolt on like suspension and sub frames

Then a coat of body schutz to help protect the bottom from the British weather

O err it's all gone dark

Needs to dry now

Evening all, In an effort to get the Mini closer to actually bolting some bits back on and because I'm trying to make Papa Smurf feel guilty for sitting down reading the forum instead of doing the list of chores he has before his better half returns I was out in the shed again tonight.

So I removed the masking tape from last night

got some more paint mixed

and applied a liberal coat

Evening all,

I had a snow day yesterday and spent the afternoon on a movie marathon  on the grounds that all work and no play makes Keyser a sad boy and cause it was freezing and all the parts I need had snow on them :scare:

But Bob popped over today and we had a few hours in the ZedShed starting with the sub frames

DSCF3209_zps61b84fb8.jpg

As you can see a bit of surface rust as they have been sitting about for over a year since they were prepped!

DSCF3208_zpsfae5a5b0.jpg

also the previous owner said the suspension etc was not all done up properly he had just fitted it back together so it didn't get lost - then he ended up selling it.

as you can see

DSCF3210_zps490ae498.jpg

Anyway we got them completely stripped ready for prep (gonna be painted)

DSCF3223_zps5f6016a0.jpg

Then after Bob went home I started on the rear suspension arms (well one)

DSCF3213_zps1dc2100f.jpg

Previous owner kindly fitted new brake shoes - not sure if he put new seals in the slave cylinder but at £6.50 each new I may just replace them saves stripping the hub down if they leak and they have been stood a long while!

Then I started to clean the worst of the rust off

DSCF3221_zps7a3492c5.jpg

the plan (currently) is to get all the suspension parts stripped down then setup a sandblasting booth at the weekend and get everything cleaned ready for rust primer and paint next week.

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode ......................

Tonight was Test 'a' Tent night

As you know the wife didn't really kick me out she said "you ain't that lucky" :scare:

The "tent" is an attempt to keep the dust down while sandblasting - not doing a bad job :)

I ran a few bits tonight and I got some pics for you lot (I'm so nice)

Before and afters for your viewing pleasure...............

Looks great! What equipment do you have to get to do that? Apart from the tent!

Stolen from a privious build thread just for you

photo-14782.jpg?_r=0 Posted by Keyser on 25 November 2011 - 21:55 in Member build projects

I was asked about the sandblasting setup so for anyone who wants to see how I do it here it is - probably more interesting at this point of the project anyway.

OK I have a corner of the Zedshed setup like this

DSCF2927.jpg

just to the right is the sand blaster I have

DSCF2929.jpg

Behind the green tarp where it all happens

DSCF2931.jpg

After a session I just tip it together in the tarp

DSCF2934.jpg

Then it is filtered back into the blaster

DSCF2936.jpg

which stops this going back in and blocking the nozzle

DSCF2937.jpg

A trip through the "chamber" turns

DSCF2938.jpg

to

DSCF2939.jpg

I have 3 dust sheets and 4 tarps over the Zed and after about 8 hours blasting the top cover looks like this

DSCF2933.jpg

That's a blue tarp Honest

But the pile of clean bits is getting bigger

DSCF2940.jpg

That's all folks ................
