Ok so I bought my car back in January and have done so much cleaning that my skills have vastly improved and have starting sneezing out candles (Way too much wax)!

Anyways, what I wanted to know is what stuff do people recommend? At the moment, all my stuff is Meguiars and I have come to realise that these are great for amateurs but for that professional finish, I should go for something a bit more specialist. Am willing to learn and put in all the effort and hopefully eventually be able to work up to handling an orbiter.

From initial research I'm thinking Dodo Juice, but I don't know much about them, or Zymol, or Autoglym.

How do people rate these brands? Or is there something else I should try?

Had a look at the Zymol site and they do a kit with everything in. Not sure about the others.

What I am looking to achieve is the great protection for my car with great results.

I have time to wash my car from twice a week maximum to once every two weeks minimum.

Thanx for the help in advance peeps. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

I find I use a mixture of manufacturers depending on what I want to achieve and how much time I have. Others may disagree but I find one manufacturer doesn't do the best of everything.

(IMO from personal experience)

Best Shampoo = Carlack 68 Shampoo

Best all in one cleaner/sealant = Car Lack 68 Nano Systematic Care

Best Tyre Gel = Meguiars Gold Class Endurance

Best Wheel Cleaner = Carpro Iron X

Best Wax (Black Car) = Victoria Wax Concours

Sonus or Zaino for towels usually.

I've used a few, including Dodo Juice and Autoglym from your list - I've also tried a cleaner wax but that's it from Zymol.

I personally find the Autoglym stuff to be very similar to how you've described the Megs stuff. I do find some of their products useful and they give good results, but I prefer others.

Dodo Juice products are nice to work with and give good results, but can be a little bit pricey compared to others that do as good as job (IMHO) and the waxes don't have the durability that I'd like.

Which brings me to;

I use meguiers and I find it's pretty good but my mates civic is always sparkling and looking a lot shinier than mine. He uses poorboys polish and wax and he swears by it. Il definetly be buying some when my meguiers runs out.

I do like my Poorboys products. The Natty's paste waxes do what the Dodo Juice waxes do well but have lasted longer in my own experiences. And they're cheaper.

I tend not to stick to one brand for every step either though, as above.

Different brands for different jobs. Value for money is something I look for. I'm fortunate that I get to see / try a lot of stuff with my mate being a high profile detailer.

I find dodo and poorboys very good generally and the meguiars professional range, the basic range isn't as good.

On your dark car you'd be nuts not to buy blackfire, something I've been banging on about for years - since my mates company started importing it! I think they still distribute it exclusively but I'm not 100% sure.

I can easily give more detailed list of products but Tim @ Envy will keep you right. Matt @ i4detailing also has loads of good stuff.

This X millionty.

I don't have a particular brand I stick with, I use a range of stuff depending on what I need to do. AG, Megs, DJ, Swissvax, Poorboys, Blackfire, Menerza: They're all in my garage.

I use a mix as hilighted above.

Dodo Juice supernatural is very long lasting without a shadow of doubt.

Shampoo Megs

Detailer Megs

Clay Autoglym (megs clay in my eyes is a bit soft)

Megs for Wheels

Autoglym for windows

Megs for interior an engine bay.

Polishing megs

To be fair Autoglym or Megs wax doesn't touch Dodo Juice, and I've tested a fair amount.

I'm currently looking to import some unknow brands never seen in the UK, such as Australia etc. once I find something really tasty in any of the detailing subjects I'll post up.

same as a above, i use a mix of things,

some megs stuff some poorboys and some dodo.

always like to try new stuff, might have a look at this blackfire stuff, not seen it before.

Take a look Rich. I did an early XKS in black with it (after 2 days solid machining) and it looked absolutely fantastic.

love blackfire paint sealant and the tyre gel is the best

Agreed!

Here is a black zed myself and another member did. It was sealed with blackfire.

I generally use the products that suit the paint I'm working with. I don't detail as much as I used to though so haven't been keeping up with the latest 'trends' that are about. I'm happy with what I have in my arsenal these days.
