Top Gear is back on! (January 2012)

Worst episode in quite a while, this article sums it up pretty well:

I've actually quite enjoyed Top Gear USA on BBC 3 recently. It reminds me of the early days of our Top Gear before it got staid and boring. I just don't think Clarkson and co can muster the same levels of enthusiasm about driving exotic cars (or taking part in crazy challenges) when its all they've done for the last 15 years.

Bit like watching Arsenal, a couple of good performances make you think the team are back to their best but alas no....

:lol: yes exactly, but you will still watch them play.. the same with Top Gear..the love hate relationship ;) We'd all still watch Top Gear even though it's rubbish as there is nothing better on tele on a Sunday night

Antiques roadshow?

I thought Sunday nights episode was pretty good. The ice section was great, the sound of both the Fezza and Bentley were cracking. I had a feeling the motorised mobility thing was going to be useless, but found it quite good and funny.

But please oh please can somebody chop Clarksons eyebrows, they are doing my head in!!!! :yuck:

Also Hammond doesn't look too well and seems to have lost weight?

Well last nights episode was a good one - everyone doing what they do best in my opinion

A good crazy race for Hammond, a decent car twin test from Clarkson, and then another decent duo from Clarkson and May on the demise of SAAB. And once again, it was about cars!

Only thing for me which was a bit weak was the guest, not being a huge Dr Who fan, but who really likes the SIARPC segment anyways?

Have to say the star in a reasonably priced car is tiring - although from a political point of view getting stars of various levels on the show sometimes to promote films/shows works behind the scenes to keep Top Gear going. I actually record it and then watch it later in the evening so can forward past the chaff like that.

Was a return to better form I agree although another race between a car and something that isn't a car that has been rigged in such a way as to make it 'seem' like a race

How about a race round the Top Gear track between me on a segway and a Bugatti Veyron, obviously the Veyron would not be able to start until I reach the final corner.... wow that would be exciting... wouldn't it

If they did more 'proper' bits like the SAAB one with the odd smoke filled burn up and proper test drives it would be a whole lot better, and how about star in a f**k off fast car

1. The Dalai Lama goes round the track in a GTR :drive1

Good episode I thought. I like SIARPC (even though not THIS star) and the SAAB stuff was interesting, as was the rally/bird man thingy.

The review of the C63 vs Maserati was pathetic though. Clarkson spent the whole time saying the Merc was slower but clearly, driven properly, it is much quicker. Very quick in fact.

In the TG magazine, he tested the same car against the M3 GTS and that should have been the test. And then, tested the winner against the 2012 GT-R............ for the Germans then.

Good show, agree the fight between Swiss chocolate and scared out ya pants Hammond was a tad poor. Although I like rallying so watched for that reason.

Merc looks stupid with the rear spoiler, Masa looks stupidly long. But at least Clarkson managed 4 laps before wearing out the tyres.

Star part I hate anyway and always forward unless it's a fit bird, or two fit birds B)

SAAB section was spot on. Always loved the turbo and almost bought one years ago, but couldn't stand the dashboard. Only architects could designer what the buttons actually did.

Like the 93 cab but felt it was a bit soft looking. A great shame for a car that I grew up with and respected has now gone :byebye:

(I didn't know Spyker tried to takeover - very bold and stupid by the sound of things)

I dont think I would ever buy one of those track cars...buy a decent used sports car, dare I say for 30k you are not that far off used GTR territory. Appreciate the trackness of the caterham etc but only worth it if it were your 7th car or something

Interesting watching them drive them to work, they went straight down Putney High Street which is a car park at any time of day, pretty sure they would have gotten a few looks.

It was a better episode than some lately, am I the only one who would actually like to see some proper reviews of cars though? A 5 minute chat called 'news' where they just say 'ooooh look at that' or thats rubbish is hardly a review.

Top Gear is not that sort of show, just take it for what it is, 3 blithering idiots performing staged idiocracy with some car porn thrown in, if you accept that you will enjoy it more.. If you want an unbiased professional road testing programme of every day normal cars you aren't gonna get it watching this programme...

Personally I love Top Gear, they will never be able to please everyone

Fifth Gear was more about serious reviews, and that floundered. I guess at the end of the day TV is mainly about entertainment, not information, plenty people find Top Gear entertaining hence why its still there.

This sums it up exactly, it's still one of the best things on the TV!
