BACON Posted September 14, 2011 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Tarmac there's certainly some strange suggestions coming across now but I think the two you were originally considering, the X5 or the Cayenne are the best in this bracket combining 4 x 4 capability, prestige, luxury and comfort. My personal favourite with my short and limited driving of the two is the Cayenne is best if you're looking for prestige and the way it makes you grin whilst driving it..........on the other hand the X5 is superior in regards to the actual appearance. The Cayenne seems to sit just too high and miles above the road and rims (unless you put some 26" chrome spinners on ) whilst the X5 with it's front bumper and step plates seems to sit less like a 'boat on wheels'! Warranty will be nearer £1000 from an OPC. Expensive, but ultimately worth it in case something goes ping. You will also need to make sure that the car will pass the 111pt check with no issues: Tyres are the biggy here, they must be N-rated and have more than 3mm on them. If they're not (and on an older car in the wider market I'd expect them not to be tbh) then there's another grand to spend there. Brakes must be 100% too or you'll be looking at discs and pads too, so there's another £2000... You can see where this leads. If you really don't want a Yank V8 truck and it really is between the X5 and the Cayenne, then I suspect the X5 is the better buy. However, my favourite car is still the Range Rover, and i was looking at them only just yesterday...! And they do a 5 litre V10 Diesel which does over 20mpg and has SO MUCH TORQUE. There's also a 4.something litre V8 petrol I believe. I would GUESS that similar age and mileage they'd be cheaper than the Cayenne because they have a VW badge over a Porsche one. Again a guess.. but parts might be cheaper too? Ok, the interior isn't exactly exciting, but the sound of that Hemi and being able to outdrag most of the competition It's quicker than the cayenne. Merc ML, Porsche, range rover sport, Vogue and BMW X5 & x6. The best one is the range rover sport in my opinion. I would definitely get that over all the others!!
