[i've picked up almost every tablet there is and nothing feels as nice and user friendly with the quality the iPad delivers!

I don't think so, still no easy way to switch between apps, no true multitasking, no "just type" or "synergy", completely locked down, crappy (non existent) notifications, couldn't tether to your phone last time I checked, sms etc from your iPhone don't automatically show up on the iPad... looks like iOS 5 may fix a few of those issues though but it's still lacking a lot of features as Apple want to save some for the next pad in 12 months otherwise people won't upgrade!

None of your issues bother me and besides, no device is perfect for everyone. What gets to me is people just slagging the iPad off just because it's apple. You can't deny that's it's the best tablet on the market? (the anti-apple people will!) I'm a big apple fan but if there was a better tablet out there, I would say fair enough.

Why would you want to tether to your phone?? If you have a 3G signal on your iPad, chances are, you'll have a 3G signal on your phone! I can understand you wanting to tether you iPhone so that you can connect your wifi iPad but not the other way around!?

Oh and iso5 will solve most of those "issues"

Pfffffft!! I genuinely don't understand why people are so anti-apple! Leeroy, style over substance!? :bangin: Have you ever used an iPad? I think you mean 'style WITH substance!

To be honest it's the 'lifestyle' aspect of Apple stuff that bothers me. A few years years ago it became all 'cool' to own an iMac, then the same with iPhones and now iPads. People just go all gooey over them.

Fair enough it all works well - market took a long time to bring something to compete with the iPhone and the same seems to be happening with the iPad.

I freely admit that I've suffered with clunky phones (compared to the iPhone interface) due to anti-appleness, so I'm happy that there are now products which are as good.

Apple's success is based on two things, the 'lifestyle' thing and the superbly intuitive interface. Actually, theres a third thing which is what supported them in the early years - they excelled as a creative tool.

The thing is I'm normally pretty objective when it comes to products, in fact (whisper it) I've never been a fan of Japanese cars but I realised that the Zed was more suited to me than some of the more obvious rivals. Good job it didn't have an Apple logo on the bonnet

In terms of OS it's not the best. The iPad is currently the sexiest hardware around but there's better spec'd Android HW, that's due to the fact that there's loads of manufacturers using the same Android OS so all they have to compete with each other on is the HW. Personally I love WebOS, I love the style of the Apple products, I'm not too keen on Android but I appreciate how open the OS is but that may change with future updates to each platform... I think the fact you say you're a big apple fan give away your bias a little.

Tethering your pad *to your* phone is the correct way of saying using the phones 3G on the pad, not that it matters as we understand what each other means... just did a google and it looks like you can do this these days with 3rd party apps on iPad/iPhone anyway.

I think the fact you say you're a big apple fan give away your bias a little.

That's so typical! I admitted that I'm an apple fan so I'm bias!? When you read that, what you saw was "I think apple is the best and I would never EVER consider any other product!" you couldn't be any further from the truth! I also said that if there was a better product, I would say fair enough! Name me a better product?

Over the years, I have had countless PC's, laptops, handheld gadgets and mobile phones. I now have an iPhone, iPad, iMac and an iPod. What's your logic for me choosing these products? Vanity? Or could it be that I think these products work extremely well and I'm yet to find something that I prefer!

I can honestly say that if I tried another product that I prefer, I would be happy to ditch any apple product and that's more than any anti-apple individual can admit to!

Oh and better spec doesn't mean better product!

Flash is the spawn of the devil himself and should be burnt at the stake. I have never seen a site executed in Flash that I have thought couldnt have been done better in other technologies. Its slow, clunky and power intensive, all things that you dont want anywhere on a mobile device. Java was much the same for mobile devices and has all but died off in them now (J2ME). The more OEMs that get behind HTML5 the better, it will give sites a faster, sleeker and more stable experience.

 Not a fan then Chris?!

More updates! :D

The touch screen is still nowhere near as sensitive as the iPad. Boo.

I've accidentally deleted a contact from the thing after I synced with FB and now I can't get it back. Arse.

Browser seems a bit clunky. Can't put my finger on it.

Android store is fugly.

It's nice to hold, and the moving background is a nice touch.

dolphin HD is a very good internet browser with some cool features. New android store is on its way. You can get it now if you know where to look for a leaked version

This Apple fanboy / anti-Apple shite really gets on my nerves (not this thread, i mean it's everywhere).

I HATE apple products... i hate style over substance, i detest iTunes (worst application on the planet), and i never owned an apple product UNTIL i got an iPhone 3GS.

2 years on and i've still got it. I still hate apple, i still hate iTunes, but it is the best gadget/phone/device i've ever owned. The user interface is so slick and easy to use... i even enjoy adding contacts to my phone is so easy and intuitive. From day 1 you know how to do everything on the phone, it's been designed so well. Now compare that to the Android phones that my work mates / fiance have and the UI is so clunky and cumbersome, and un-intuitive, and these are brand new  Everyone keeps saying they're better because they have more features and they're not made by apple - but i just dont agree.

Contradiction overload! You hate apple but love the iPhone.....that's fair enough. I suppose that's a good view to have. You're not caught up in the debate. You appreciate the iPhone for what it is.

Well that wasnt the case when we first got my missus iphone 3gs about a year ago.

1st Challange was how an earth do you get your contacts onto the phone from your old phone. Normally its just a simple case of copying your contacts onto your old sim, putting it into the new phone and copying them back over to the new phone

But no, you cant do that on the iphone. Old sim wont work in iphone. Okay, so lets try it the other way around... iphone sim wouldnt work in old phone. Okay, well next way I normally do it is to just bluetooth the contacts over. Okay, iphone bluetooth does not work with anything other than an approved apple device so that option does work. How about sending them through as business cards? that`s worked for me on every phone ive ever owned. Nope... no such luck here, i phone doesnt recognise them. In the end I had to manually key in aout 250 contacts.

At the time I had a samsung 8910i and I was left just amazed as time and time again during normal day to day use id discover something the iphone couldnt do and yet id been able to do for years on other phones. No flash on the camera?! The camera itself was something like 2mp when most phones had 8mp cameras. No slot to put sd cards in? So rather than bunging a 16gb card in for pennies, you had to fork out hundreds to buy an iphone with 16 or 32gb built in. Have to use itunes? You cant just drag & drop music / media straight onto the phone using IE.

And what an earth is up with the iphone battery? Smart phone`s have batterys which typically last me 3 days and yet everyone I know with an iphone is hunting for a charger after about 6 hours use. Then the owners say "oh its cos of all the features!!!". wtf? It has 1/4 the features of most smartphones and the battery lasts 1/4 as long. That doesnt make sense!

The interface is simple and designed for people who are not technical. And originally when the iphone first came out, i agree, its touch screen interface was ace. The screen resolution was never as good as other smart phones, and its video playback was poor, but it was easy to use.

One thing which a lot of iphone users "boast" about in my experience, is "oh theres lots of apps". As if the iphone is the only phone which has ever had this! I had symbian phones for many years and there were thousands of apps for those, likewise android phone, millions of apps. I guess if you counted them all up, there maybe more apps for the iphone, but who really cares? Once people go through the initial phase of downloading weather app, timer app, clock app, angry birds and a few others, you soon realise that there arnt that many other apps out there which you really need, and if you do, they are avaliable on android as well as iphone. I guess one reason the iphone needs so many apps is its lack of flash. On android and a lot of other phones you can just browse the full website in all its glory and therefore not need a cut down app in order to use tesco.com or amazon!

Each to their own tho. My missus loves her iphone, so do my mates. Bit like my dad who loves his Nokia Classic because its got big buttons and is easy to use. I just renewed 2 of my phones last month and looked long and hard at the iphone, but when i compared the iphone back to back against the competition it really was a no brainer, so I got 2 galaxy s2`s instead.

Did you try to sync your old phone to your computer and then transfer them to the iPhone? Probably not.

No flash on the camera?! The camera itself was something like 2mp when most phones had 8mp cameras.

If the camera bothered you that much then I would suggest buying a proper camera.

No slot to put sd cards in? So rather than bunging a 16gb card in for pennies, you had to fork out hundreds to buy an iphone with 16 or 32gb built in.

What would you need the extra storage for? I have a desk top that I can move things to easily if I needed extra storage.

My iPhone battery lasts a whole day at least and you know what? At the end of the day, I go to bed. This is a good time to charge the phone.

The interface is simple and designed for people who are not technical.

What a load of rubbish!! Just because it's easy to find your way around, it means you're not technical!? Seriously!? I'm pretty sure you've offended everyone who owns an iPhone there!

One thing which a lot of iphone users "boast" about in my experience, is "oh theres lots of apps".

Boasting!?!? It's a main feature of the iPhone! If I told you my car has a sunroof, is that boasting or am I just telling you about the cars features!?

I will agree with some of the points. All phones I've had before you can BT your old contacts over as a whole address book - with iPhone you have to sync with Windows. No biggie when you realise but its a PITA initially (only have to do it once though dont you!).

Also a pain that you cant easily drag'n'drop songs onto the phone via Windows, and have to use iTunes, but I dont use it for music much so doesnt bother me again.

Thanks for the edit Chris

I liked the way you put the flaws Chris. You have valid points and yet you didnt seem to think that anything apple came from Satan's arse.

Apple products are far from perfect but what product is anywhere near perfect!?

As I said, I'm a big fan of apple but that doesn't mean I worship them and would never buy anything else other than apple. In fact, I absolutely hate the fact that if you want to upgrade anything from the apple store, you have to pay through the nose! I bought a bog standard iMac a few weeks ago and I just put 16gb of memory in it for £89. If I wanted apple to do that for me, they would add...... £480!!!!!! Disgusting!!! I still think my iMac is amazing tho!

As they say "don't hate the player, hate the game!"

iPhone

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Import SIM Contacts

My iPhone the only one in the land that has that option?

I didnt want to do mine off the SIM as my old SIM didnt have multiple numbers for people which the phone did. Windows contacts kept that

Its amazing how many people become converts after actually using them for a bit & not just playing with them in the Apple store for a few minutes before dismissing them

I had never played with a Mac before getting one, not even in the Apple shop. I did have a Dell XPS, nice laptop, lots of power...... just got fed up with programes chugging, USB kept stopping, got very hot and the fan was very noisy. Just wanted a change.

Also how surprised was I at the OS upgrade to Lion for £20 :yahoo: ....... not £200 odd for Win7

Apple seem to have a more innovative approach to doing things... like the touchpad 1,2,3, finger swipes - Just brilliant :#1:

lots of things including justifying an inferior camera, limited storage and having to charge the thing every day

Do I detect that you support Apple, sometimes a little blindly?

Ermm, I didnt write that!! Why are you quoting things that I didn't write!?!? I haven't justified anything, I've simply suggested alternatives!

What I never had understood is why Apple users seem to get so defensive. The only apple product ive owned is a ipod mp3 player and i will say that it that it did everything i could ever want it to do. I did hate the fact that it tries to force you to use itunes and makes you have tag all your music correctly in order to be able to find songs when you have a large collection. I remember when i was at school and it was the same people with Apple computers would always try and convert the PC owners saying that Apples were better. back then it depended on what you wanted to use your computer for or your budget as to the choice you made. Who would of thought that 20 years on this fight between Apple and the rest of the world would continue. In terms of phones im not gonna get involved in the argumnet but I do feel like Apple owners have been a little brainwashed and get very defensive when someone puts a Apple product down. Look at some of the apple users in this thread how easily they get offended, most of which have never had a rant or an argument on these forums before, but when it comes to their mobile phone thats a different matter. If this is what owning a Apple product does im personally glad I dont!

Apple users get defensive because it's only apple, people have a go at. How often you hear a apple user say "Microsoft is rubbish and I hate bill gates! I hate what he's done to PC's"? There's only negative things ever said about apple products and that's why it's seems like people who use apple stuff get defensive.

OSX hasn't changed in 10 years! Why? Because it's brilliant. Is this me blowing smoke up apples arse or is it me stating a fact?.....it's me stating a fact! I used windows for years and never really liked it (Let's not forget how brilliant "vista" was), I bought a MacBook and just like it better than windows. I am allowed to like other things that are not Microsoft!

At the end of the day, windows is sh*t, I like apple, that's allowed.

Woah, where were you from 1990 until circa 2010?! ;) Everyone hated MS until Win10 came out and now its 'cool to hate on Apple instead.

I don't really see why people feel they need to sit in either camp 100%, since there's faults in both platforms.

Anyhoo, back on topic, I've been a tad poorly this week so haven't had a chance to play with the new tablet until now. The screen is far clearer on the Galaxy than on the iPad, but its nowhere near as sensitive which leaves you hammering at the screen rather than tapping. The browser is far quicker in normal use than Safari though, especially when moving back and forth through pages.

Navigation is also a pain in Android right now as you need to look all over the screen for the correct button for what you want, and this is an area Apple excel in. I like how I can put whatever I want wherever I want across the homepages, but as yet there's nothing I particularly want to put there. The text entry is vile compared with iOS and the amazing hold-to-zoom function, and its taken me a good five mins to figure out how to move the cursor to exactly where I want it. Intuitive it is not.

If the Galaxy 10.1 was £100 cheaper than an iPad it would be a bargain, but its the same price and there's nothing here I can find to recommend over the Apple alternative so far. That said, this is very early days and I didn't bond with my iPad at first either, so I excited to see how I feel about it in a month or so.

That's what I have been saying all along!! I'm not sat in any corner but the fact that I like apple makes people assume that I am! it's highly irritating and I've gotten to the stage where I'm just trying to wind people up! ;)

Thanks for the update on the galaxy. If the iPad wasn't an option, I would definitely go for the samsung. I like samsung a lot  Theyre no apple tho!

Have you kept the iPad? I think the iso5 will be a big game changer.

I've still got the iPad as for the moment that's what I use to play music on the downstairs stereo, streamed via Airtunes from the PC upstairs and I know of no other way to do that as easily right now (any pointers on doing this via Android would be welcome, but I'm not not going to change from using iTunes as a media controller on the PC!).

Is Splash Desktop HD the best way of controlling a PC from an Android tablet? It seems to be the most popular on the store, but that doesn't always count for a lot...!
