coldel Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Heard on the radio this morning, a big increase in catalytic converters being stolen off cars due to the value of the metals within them. Quote
DoogyRev Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I think the Zeds will be ok...... its quite difficult to slide under and get the Cats off with out jacking the car up I bet 4x4's and higher cars are more of a target. Quote
TomS Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Typical, just as I book the car in to get Berks fitted this weekend How much are the stock cats worth anyway? Quote
glrnet Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I think someone on here said £120.00 scrap value Typical, just as I book the car in to get Berks fitted this weekend How much are the stock cats worth anyway? Quote
Vik54 Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 They'd have to be very determined, skillfully quick and armed with trolley jacks to get them off a zed Quote
jgbrew Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Most of the thefts are from places like Legoland. Citroen's are apparently a very easy target as well as 4 x4's. Legoland have upped there security but it appears their CCTV coverage is not up to scratch. TVP are on the case but apparently the thieves only need a couple of minutes and they are dressed up to imitate the AA and the RAC so most people don't give them a second thought. Quote
Will370z Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Given how much trouble my old exhaust gave to the local garage I'd like to see the thieves try and get the flippin thing off, she put up a real fight Quote
andylb Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Maybe if you left a y pipe next to your car they could fit it for you whilst they whip the cats off? Quote
waltzinblack Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Whats the problem? Free performance boost... Quote
The G Man Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I imagine the 350 is similar to the 370, you need access to the engine compartment to get the cats on or off, requires a couple of pipes from the air box moved, oh and a big mahoosive ramp Be quicker to tow the car off Quote
Watshot Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Somewhat missing the point........ Height issues aside, they are removing the cats for scrap value, not to sell all pretty and polished. Angle grinder or ripsaw do the deed in seconds, they're not concerned about lifting the bonnet and easing all the nuts for half an hour whilst they put a brew on. Quote

Keyser Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 How upset will they be? all that effort for a set of test pipes Quote
Watshot Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Not the bolts, straight through the pipe. And they want the platinum from the cats, not interested in anything else. Quote
Neilp Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 How upset will they be? all that effort for a set of test pipes hahahaha +1 Quote
Neilp Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Not the bolts, straight through the pipe. thatd mean leaving half the cat on the engine, maybe more.... waste of time if you ask me, may aswell drill the wheel bolts out and steel the wheels with all the noise the grinder would be making Quote

That'll not draw any attention eh, probably notice when they come through the living room to the kitchen to put the kettle on though Quote
Watshot Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Maybe that's where the masquerading as an RAC man at legoland helps....... Quote
