Roadster Insurance

Have any of the roadster owners noticed that it is significantly more expensive to insure than the coupé?

Looking at around £800 for the roadster whereas an equivalent coupé is less than £500.

Quotes for 24yo, 5years ncd, clean licence, no accidents, excellent postcode, experience with powerful RWD cars.

Tried a few different companies, elephant, bell, admiral(all the same company I know) LV, compare the money saving confused meerkat etc.

It just seems unjustifiable to me, to pay so much more for the roadster.

I wonder if the insurance would cough up for a new rag top if the rear glass got smashed. I am led to understand that the rear glass in the roadster is moulded into the fabric, therefore cant be replaced without replacing the entire hood?

Assuming you have glass cover on your insurance.

I chopped my insurance half way throught he year. Most expensive way but hey what can yer do ?

I had paid 330 for the civic and had to pay a further 280 to cover the Z. I am mid forties with one year NCD. So not too bad for a rag top. Insurance companies get huffy about ease of theft from a car you can open with a knife.....

Roadster has always been one insurance group higher and there is a big leap in price from group 18 to 19.

Ah that explains it, I always assumed that they were the same insurance group.

Nope, mines due on 18 oct and its £325 fully comp, business use, and 1 named driver...7 yrs ncd, clean driving licence.

Stick an aftermarket zorst on, goes upto £775

£325 on any 350Z is a very good price. If you are planning modifications, feel free to try my company as a comparison, we specialise in modified and import car insurance, we also offer a discount to 350Z-UK members.

Sky did quote me....not taking the insurance through them though...Sorry chaps, I didnt like the saying"£20 arrangement fee" when i was quoted.

Although I must say that your sales rep did ask what was my best quote, which i told him was £295. When he informed me that through SKY it would be £595 I nearly fell off my seat...

Sorry guys you lost my business this year.

Also I dont do the "arrangment fee" thing either.

Hi,

thanks for trying us, as I said, the £295 you have been quoted is incredibly low. Whilst Sky Insurance are usually competitive for standard vehicles , we are much better for the modified examples. If you are planning modifications, it is worth checking how much you will be charged. You may find they charge an extra £300 for adding a set of alloy wheeel which suddenly makes our price competitive, I've seen it time and time again.

With regards to the arrangement fee, we are a broker, this is one way we make our money. All brokers have arangement fees, just not all disclose them to the customer over the phone

Thanks for your feedback.

My roadsters have always been more to insure than tintops - probably a number of reasons -assumption that no steel roof therefore easier to steal it, but in reality I think its the fact that as convertibles are generally hand built and the parts are normally twice as expensive to buy compared to the coupe version hence they are more expensive to repair in the event of a crash say. Plus you know how much the stealers charge for new hoods and fitment - extortionate !! Simples!

Just stupid risk statistics from the insurers unfortunately.
