Having looked at the thread of the recent Wales drive out and feeling a bit left out. I decided to have my own personal one in the Derbyshire Peak district which is on my doorstep.

Starting on the South Sheffield moors

Then the suprise view which looks down from Fox House to the valley of Hathersage

Ladybower reservior and the actual dam wall the dam busters used to practice on to develop the bouncing bomb.

Some of Castleton's landmark sights. Mam Tor is a famous viewpoint and landmark, rearing up above the valleys of Hope and Edale. Known as the 'shivering mountain', it is comprised of shale and the East face is a dramatic and loose expanse of crumbling rock. The area below the face is constantly on the move and each period of heavy rain undermines the loose shale and causes it to slip further down the valley. The former A625 main road from Stockport to Sheffield once went down this way but was swept away by a landslide in 1974 and has not been rebuilt.

Winnats Pass is in the High Peak area of the English county of Derbyshire. It lies to the west of the village of Castleton, in the National Trust's High Peak Estate. The road winds through a cleft, surrounded by towering limestone pinnacles. The pass was once thought to have originated as a giant collapsed cavern; however, a more recent explanation is that it was a ravine between the coral reefs that originally formed the limestone.[1] The name is a corruption of 'wind gates'. A local legend is that the pass is haunted after a young couple were murdered by miners

Overlooked by the Iron Age fort on Mam Tor, Edale Valley is the wide expanse of green which lies just to the south of the great gritstone and peat mass of Kinder Scout, which is usually accepted as the southern end of the Pennines.

And like all good outings ending up at a local watering hole
