Is there 1 acknowledged best tyre for the 350Z.

Think a few tyres on my 07 350z are about due to be replaced so thought I'd ask on here if there is 1 known best tyre for the zed? Front and back, want to get ready for the winter for more grip. I presume the same tyre will be ok for the summer too?

Thanks peeps.

My point was people want different things at the top of the list. The grippiest tend to have a relatively short life and can be noisy. eg the RE040's perform well on track in the dry but in the wet are shocking and are noisy as hell. Toyos are a strong all rounder (IMO as grippy as MPS but not as good on track after a few laps). :)

I dont do tracks so thats not an issue, Id like grip in teh wet as we it pees own all the time in the UK and I feel the traction is coming on all too ofen at every start.

As long as there not stupdily noisy I dont mind. Just read that thread and im non the wise rlol, thugh Toyos seemed to get a mention a lot.

I do low miles a year so not lasting many miles is not an issue, think I do about 5,000 a year if that.

Then I'd go for the MPS2, if you can. They're a billion times better than T1-Rs in the wet, and about a hundred times better in the dry. Not cheap, but if you really want the best then that's what I'd go for. Alternatively the Vredesteins mentioned earlier in the thread would be my close second choice, followed by the Bridgestone RE050As. Don't bother with the Toyos or Falkens, they're good for the money but they're still just budget tyres for a car like the Zed.

Thanks guys. So do I buy online and get local garage to fit or go to a specialist tyre and exhaust place and ask for these?

Sounds like MPS2 is the way to go. Will my garage know what they are if i say that or is there a normal longer name. How much am I looking at for 4 (do you put same on back wheels?) and can I get these off ebay or online cheaper then just pay garage to fit.

Thanks for your help guys.

You're after Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres, and if you can I'd get them from the interweb and have a local place fit. You should expect to pay anywhere between £700 - £900 for all four, and you want 225/45/18 on the front and 245/45/18 on the back, assuming yours is a UK car.

Feck me cant affod that much lol, thats almost 1k fitted. :scare:

Had a feeling that might be the response  I checked the price when I got my 19's and decided to get Falken 452's. I could get 2 sets for the price of the MPS's, and lots of Zed owners have gone for these. I've found them to be fine, all depends how you intend to drive I suppose.

If you want the best then you need to be prepared for the cost ;) Personally I think they're worth every penny, and given that the tyres are the only thing in contact with the road why scrimp on them? That said, if you really can't afford them then try the Vredesteins (the RE050As will be about the same as the MPS2s).

i run the vredestein ultrac sessantas, and find them very good. have written loads about them as have others so just search for sessantas and you'll get all the info.

also check out http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ loads of tyre reviews from mags as well as customer feedback. all the big brands etc.

and i bought mine from camskills online. cost about £120 a corner on average. but i got mine under special offer, don't know if they are still offering it.

sorry H5 but i'd have to agree with Ekona on this. maybe i wouldn't call them budget, but they are a midrange tyre.

They offer plenty of wet and dry grip. I've never felt the Zed was lacking grip with them on.

I've run RE050s and for normal driving they offered no benefits over the T1Rs apart from the firmer sidewall.

Alex also has them as his wets......

Ok there are better available however for everyday driving (even occasional track work) they are more then up to the task of driving the challanging Aberdeenshire roads.

Price vs grip & wear level. On something cheaper like, say, an MX-5 they'd be a bit higher up the range, but on something as powerful as the Zed they're definitely on the budget side. They last for ages, they have average grip in the dry and above average in the wet, but they melt like anything if you start putting serious heat into them. Just my opinion mind, but when you've got a car costing £30K new I wouldn't be putting cheap rubber on it as you'll distort the performance available. Nissan almost got it right with the RE040s (dry grip on those far exceeds the T1-Rs), it's just a shame they're so useless in the wet which is why they made the RE050A OEM on the HR models.
