Was particularly handy once when my handbrake wasnt working and after trying several times to get a reading on the brake machine the MOT tester asked me to give it a go. I remember reading stuff about this when I was really into photography, the landowner has the right to deny you take photos but the law is grey on something like this because often the mechanics are not the landowners and cannot impose the same right. They can say they will not work on your car, as is their right, but they cannot invoke a rule to stop you unless the landowner of the property they rent imposes it on their behalf. Im not a lawyer so do not expect this to be 100% true! If they do demand you have it disconnected then you are well within your rights to demand it is reconnected when it leaves the private property and onto public property again I would say because if they are involved in an accident and the camera is not running I would be pretty annoyed regardless who was to blame. If they total it they can make up any cockamamie story they like and you'll get the market value of your car. Sorry chum, @*!# happens. I used to listen to his stories about customer cars or cars that had gone there for work to be done. I asked if he could do some maintenance on my Clio there and he told me not to bother as he and the other technicians used to really thrash customer care and generally abuse them. There's a stretch of road near the Rochdale branch, A627M. It takes you from Rochdale straight to oldham with a roundabout at either end. The techs called it their racetrack. Get on at Stakehill roundabout, towards Rochdale, then round the roundabout (sideways) heading towards Royton and Oldham. Get it maxed out if you can, then get it sideways round roundabout B then back up towards Rochdale but come off at the Stakehill slip road and into Castleton. I remember how enthused he was when he got to road test a V10 M5 and various other performance cars. He also said Carcrafts 100 point inspection was BS. Well if the car is set to stay bellow 20mph then that should eliminate the 'joy' in a joyride and render it pointless since they can't drive at a speed which would wipe it out. Olly350z Posted February 23, 2017 Share Posted February 23, 2017 If we're being honest, im of the opinion that if someone or a company doesnt want me to see something, theres typically a sinister motive involved somewhere. I can safely say every garage, tyre place, bodyshop you name it has let me in, shown me around the workshop and even in the case of one, a wheel alignment shop, let me assist in helping. Dont get me wrong ive never just invited myself in but I have always asked for the absolute no thrills honesty when its come to my vehicles. I remember one MOT'er passing my MOT depsite having two broken studs, condition being it was booked in with them for the work to be done and driven gingerly home, which it was on both counts later that week. The one garage I never trusted and the car was taken there and came home with a huge dent, to which they denied all knowledge of. The answer was "well you modify your car, how do we know you didnt dent it yourself". Yeah, right. I do see where they can be coming from, liability insurance is a nightmare at the best of times but id be annoyed at best that a garage had disconnected my dashcam. I took a look at the car and there was a lot of scratches on the corner of the bumper NS. I immediately raised a complaint and asked to be shown the route that the car had been taken to get it into their workshop. They escorted me as far as the workshop shutters, but because of H&S I was allowed no farther. Safe to say that the culprit of the damage was never discovered and £500 to repair the issue was taken from my pocket. On a sidenote - is it a no no to have the 350Z brake tested on the rollers? shouldn't it be brake tested on the road with a proper brake gauge? Personally I just found a garage which had a tapley (think thats what the box is called) device and told them I didnt want my zed on the rollers. Was a bit nerving seeing someone drive off in your car, but to be fair they barely went over 20mph from what I could see. One person drives, the other sits in the passenger seat with the box on their lap. The box is so sensitive apparently that even if you have virtually no brakes it will pass. I had cars break down on test drives, the extended "warranty" was worthless too. My favourite part of the job was picking up peoples trade in cars from their house, they'd already been valued and they were going to auction anyway, so you'd rag the tits off it because no one would care if it got broken.
