As per title, has anyone had success connecting their phone via an app to an OBD adapter and if so which adapter is best to use ?

I'm on Android so obviously would prefer something that would work best with Android. No particular reason for wanting to do this just think it's quite cool to see & monitor your car's readings and I guess spot any anomalies !

OBD Car Doctor is a good free app that has worked for me with an inexpensive wifi adaptor from Amazon. It diagnosed and cleared codes on both the Z and our Aygo.

The total cost of this set up was less than £15 whereas Nissan wanted to charge me £100 to diagnose what I strongly suspected was a code being thrown by my HFCs. The app/reader combination enabled me to diagnose and clear the code before later getting the car remapped as a long term solution.

personally saved £70 by supplying error code to garage from the elm/torque - thats what they charged for a diagnostic...

it came in a couple of days and works.

came with a cd with the software mentioned on here on as .apk files but I had already downloaded Torque Pro.

It seems ok but at 3.99 I am not complaining. Obviously a proper interface that costs a lot more may have more functionality and reliability.

pairing code was 1234 and name was ODB2. plugged it in blindly in the dark which was the hardest bit! just google an image of where it goes (under petrolflap pull) and feel for the pins.

Hope this helps.

has anyone left one of these plugged into the OBD port permanently?

thought it would be cool to have torque running its stuff whille driving around

put off by plugging a, relatively cheap, piece of third party tech into my Z in case it blows something
