Bought a 350Z and Insurance Question

Recommended Posts

Hi again :) Motor Direct were good for me on an Mk1 MX5 with mods, though they wanted the world for my standard 350z, might be worth giving them a call as they're a broker who go to loads of specialists. Sky were really good for us on an RX7 driven by a 31yr old man with 0 NCB (don't ask)

But then we've never made a claim with any of our insurances so can't comment on what would happen if you needed them.

Digressing a bit, but what happens if you take your car and black box onto a track?

Nothing good.

You could argue that since you're not insured on track anyway it doesn't matter how you drive there, but they'll stitch you regardless and then you'll have that data recorded for posterity.

Have you got a track record of writing off tanks you are not telling us about ?. Maybe that's why your insurance quotes are so high. Welcome to the forum, hope you get a better insurance quote. You have chosen a great car.

One of the benefits of getting old

54, 2 years ncb (company car) £280 fully comp

My 3 bikes are insured for £300 lot

Rob

When I got my zed I was 40, and had 21 years NCB. Cheapest price I could find, even after speaking to all the "specialists" on here was nearly £1000. That really shocked me as the Golf GT TDI I was using at the time was only costing me £190 fully comp, and I was getting quotes of £600 for an M3, £500 for a Porsche Boxster and even £450 for a Lambo Gallardo. So it seemed to be that the insurance companies just had something against a zed, rather than my postcode, age or NCB.

Bike wise, at the time I was also only paying £60 a year to insure my R1.

I am 51 but was out of the country for nearly 4 years so lost 20 years plus NCB so had to start again - AF were £515 last year and CK were £440 this year with a few more perks thrown in, My work car which is on a 3 year lease Mar 14 and worth 4 times the book price on the Zed is £320 - nuts - although very quiet postcode PE31

Keep looking as more members may give you a better steer than me !

Just done a quote on Confused. I'm 27 with 4yrs NCB living in the Lake District.

£285 with exhaust and panel air filter declared from Admiral :yahoo:

Will still phone around a few of the performance brokers but well chuffed with that. I'd have to pay an extra £130 if I wanted the privilege of a black box too. Very strange.

Great news, the fact your over 25 helps. Most won't insure me i.e. Sky, Chris Knott etc and Tesco wanted 4.6K :scare: Looks like I'll be paying £1,335 with Esure, although I can get it a couple of hundred quid cheaper with AF I did as advised and googled them "not good I'm afraid". last thing to check now is ring Esure and mention AF quote to see if they can reduce the premium.

I'm sure AF have many happy customers and it is true that people normally only write the bad in companies online, although you do tend to read a lot more about them than the others. Haven't seen forum pages full of topics like "Direct Line - Bunch of Thieving B@*tards!" like you do with AF.

If you're under 25 it sometimes helps putting parents as named drivers.

Have you tried LV? we have a couple of cars through them and they do seem really good, even just gave us a £68 rebate which was well unexpected. They didnt come up with a price when I went on the comparison sites. But I just went to their own site and did it through that, beat all the quotes I'd had.

Been with them a couple of years now, and now massive hike after the first year. Definately worth calling these companies and explaining that as a soldier, the vehicle is going to more secure than 80% of any other car around...... armed guards and the lot :teeth:

Presently I'm at my parents house in the North East as I'm on leave for three weeks. My Uncle popped round earlier and mentioned using my parents address (registered as my home address as I'm a single soldier) instead of the barrack. So I did a quote and it came back at £730 eek. Uncle said as the address is actually registered with the Army as my home address why not use it. I'm now going to ring an insurance broker and find out if it's possible but not holding my breath.

Reason behind my high insurance was definitely down to post code. Used both my parents (North East) and Grandparents (Cambridge) and this reduced premium by nearly fifty percent. Still can't understand why (secure military base in the middle of nowhere) but car insurance has never made sense to me. Glad it was cheaper for yourself, loving the car so far.

Trying to work out what's needed for next service in Oct, 2005 car with 62k. Also looking into getting front wheels refurbished to get rid of kerbing marks.

No buddy, i took my car to Nissan when i first got the car for a service and check up just to give me piece of mind, I got the car back and I don't think they actually changed my oil, I think they just got a new bottle and threw it around in my engine bay as it was everywhere strut brace, engine cover, brake fluid cover underside of bonnet (how???). So because of this service by a dealership I refuse to use them due to the lack of respect during a service, I wouldn't like leaving my car if a big job came up.

As I am not even thinking about ever selling my Z I take it to my local garage that my family have used for the past 15 years, he is a Japanese car specialist and has had 3 different types of Z and he and his son take pride in working on my car. So because of this it makes me happy that someone decent is working on my car.

I'm not 100% sure on price as I don't have the receipts to hand, I believe around £240 mark which i was happy with considering belts and plugs where changed with the P3 service.
