Yeah I just updated it with Silver but according to xbox.com you need a gold membership to try the sky stuff.

If anyone has a free xbox live months trial code I'd appreciate it, I just want to try use it to update my console and try out this new Sky TV thingy

There is a weight hidden by the boot plastics that is easily removable. Also yes there are plenty of uprated boot struts available. Try having a look on one of the traders sites
