  1. Theres so many things to do / change depending on what you'r looking for but in making the driving package better, my 2 cents... Upgrade the brakes... Then you can slow down when you get to the corner... Upgrade the suspension... So you can go round the corner... Then look at more power... So you can... Well, you know this bit... Inbetween all this comes things to change the looks both inside and out and things of a more practical nature as well as servicing... Even the first thing gives great satisfaction... Going into the hairpin at Knockhill in ma old MG TF with the 304mm AP setup with 911's who are overtaking suddenly going into reverse put a smile on the face... Only to have them blast past on the run up the hill... You'r never going to be the fastest / fastest all the time so its all about enjoying what you'r doing, start with the things that matter and learn to drive the car (not being rude, you'r always learning), do trackdays / courses to learn how to deal with the unexpected... Oh and above all, have fun...
  2. Excelent post... The Swiss passes are excelent, Grimsel and Middle Furka more so, no no, all of them... The old St Gothards with the cobbles and bad surface is good for a laugh (and squeaky bum moments)... Seeing that mix of supercars on display is just one of the great things Eurotrip can bring up, things like that makes the day...
  3. As well paying the extra for the arm, the ball is the same age as the bush, by the time you pay for the extraction / replacing (if you dont have access to a press) you wont be far off it and you may be visiting the same corner again soon anyway... Both sides on mine went within a year more or less of each other, at least if you replace the arm its done and not a worry for another few years... My take anyway...
  4. Sorry, missed this, search for my thread on this, the return spring for the opening mechanism on the door handle assembly is latched to a plastic pin, it was intermitant on mine for a year and a bit, I thought it was a sticking lock as it seemed to cure itself every time I got in and lubed it. As it was off the road a proper strip down revealed this. If its the same problem its not the lock (at botom of door) its not the handle, its the handle mechanism and be prepared to pay quite a bit for it... Some would laugh at my fix but its by far the cheapest option and it works... Hope it helps... Cheers...
  5. I love my Z and... Cant wait for her to be back on the road...
  6. Its a GT, its what they do... So wish I had cruise though... Can it be retrofitted?
  7. Ok, so I should have posted this before Christmas but I wanted to wait till it was all here... But I could not wait and the job started today... Yea, I can hear you go WTF is he on about... Well, these came off the Z today... Callipers and discs off and started on the driver side compression arm (damn that brace, damn that brace)... And these are going on... The fronts are not in yet, expected any time, PFC's (pix to follow)... Have these to fit too and service stuff to order tomorrow so she's as slick as she can be... A big shout goes out to Ewen from Clark Motorsport who arranged all the kit, well chuffed mate (see below for things to price up, cheers), really, didnt just sell me what was the big earner, more helpful and took the time to make sure we explored options, the car is a toy now that we are a family of three so will probably see as much time on track as on the road (thats the plan anyway) so wanted it to be fit for it... Right whats next, in no particular order... Rear cage, my seat, Eibach wheel spacers, have to check sizes, like someones suggestion of brake cooling ducts, nice one, diffuser, didnt like the TS (it was the vortex generators) but seen the Autotele one and even called about it way back when but bad stories here put me off it so Ewen, think TS it will be (replica), as I'm doing it right it might as well be in carbon, carbon air intake, maybe even carbon bonnet but thats me gettin away from my gaffer tape the bodywork roots... Suspension will be next of course... But so will that list... LOL... ETA, Feb 2014... Cant wait...
  8. M, Brussels just came to mind... You can drive almost all round it underground as they have a kind of ring road tunnel thing going on, entering from the north we usually go just over half way round, its mental though as quite often it pops up for like maybe 50 yards and another lane appears on the right and its a free for all both getting off and going on...
  9. Went all the way to St Gotthards and didnt do the passes... Please tell me you did... Interlaken to Grimselpass, upper Furka, St Gotthards, Nufenen, lower Furka, Simplon (cutting off to arive in Italy down what is like a single track mountain racetrack complete with open sided tunnels on bends) ending up in Baveno (La Sorgente) or if you are mad as a hatter try ll Monterosso in Verbania for the road alone (described as 1.6 miles of gently twisting road, ha ha, yea)... Sorry, off topic, too much coffee this morning... That and the Swiss Travel Centre brochure just came in today, maybe its a sign...
  10. 1. Check fuse. (bust, replace. Ok, go to 2.) 2. Check for power and earth at pump. (Power / earth, go to 3. no power go to 6. no earth go to 5.) 3. Remove pump and test on a battery. (working go to 4. Not working, thats the problem.) 4. Check wiper switch. (working go to 6. not working, thats the problem.) 5. run a lead to earth, problem solved. 6. If everything else works you'r looking for a broken or frayed wire (enough strands to read 12 volts but not enough to hold the current the pump requests), look for obvious breaks where the wire passes through any bodywork, mind it might be broken inside the plastic seath and look ok so its plugs off and test a legnth at a time... At which point you just have to write off the rest of the day or forget it for a week... Oh and if the Z is earth switched forget 5, just go to 6 cept its not 12 v your looking for, just continuity... Oh how I hate wiring... Hope this helps, cheers... P.S... Ahm not an expert, just my input...
  11. I use Avons, the ZZ3 though, you may find that is a good tyre to swap over to, fantastic levels of grip in the dry, ok in the wet, wear out quicker than average as its a soft tyre, especially on track days, good on price though (shop about). If it was a case of couldnt afford till next month I would get ZZ3 for the front (or whatever tyre you wanted) and do fronts now and be certain to get the rears next month but if you'r looking at those rears and thinking, "loads of tread left" then, yea, you'r back where you came in and the advice given re handling stands... Hope this helps... Cheers...

    dics and pads

+1 I'v just ordered new discs and pads from Ewen at Clark Motorsport, top bloke, he'll see you all right...
  13. Dont know about you but when I bought my Z they were worth a lot more than 6 or 7 grand... If I were to replace it I would be spending 30k+ for something new (not), 20 odd k for sonething nearly new (not) or four and a half for something as a project... ..... ....... Why when I have a car I love... Infact I love it so much that rather than sell it its been off the road for the last year and a half (but watch this space)... Dont sell it... You'll regret it...
  14. A nice "clean" blue Z on the new M74 just after Ruggy... When I say clean it was like as if it had a dirt force field round it... I was the guy in the blue Transit (Jixa Racing) that waved... Some day I will spot with the Z, soon hopefully...

    Winter Tyres

Tyre sox on a Z..... Ahhhhh hahahahahahaha.... Sorry, pointless... No better value in snow than a three hundred quid Ka, you will pay more than that for tyres and your pride and joy still gets messed up if theres a shunt... Oh and the heater works a treat...
  16. Oooops, obviously didnt read that right... Sorry... But, if you do get it down, the above still stands... Hope you get it fixed, you so easily take for granted windows that open till you dont have them... Cheers...
  17. Its standard redbox pads... Not for the Z, even if it says so and you promimise to drive like a granny...
  18. Glass is a doddle... Drop it down till the three bolts can be seen and removed through the holes in the metal sheet (12 bolts), remove glass, remove 12 bolts, rebove metal sheet... Really, so so easy and simple... Oh and dont think its going to be a nightmare puting it all back together, the design is idiot proof (no offence to anyone) the bolts go through the glass so it really only can go in one way, I done mine all on my own, probably better with 2 but it can be done...
  19. A band expander will sort the radio out... Dont ask me what that it coz I just didnt bother as I hardly ever listen to the radio and if I do its Talk Sport so not an issue... The Satnav unit behind the seat (DVD) is just that a sat nav, it does not play DVD's... Buying a UK unit will not work, you need an 05 or older X-Trail unit, good luck... If you do get one you will be left with plugs for the TV which wont be working because of bandwidth again and its only analogue... I have the X-Trail unit but its not worth the money, yes it has the "original" look but its just too limited in what it does... Car PC seems the way to go as no matter what you do with the JDM kit you will be having the dash and facia off anyway so as well installing something that does it all (aparently the screen is poor quality too)... It will be ages till I get near to doing anything inside the cab (keep finding other things outside that need doing to add to the list) so if you figure out something post on here so we can all get an idea... Cheers...
  20. Nooooooo... Cant... Surely not... 370, how does that look, it runs with LED's, no ? You'v got me searchin the net for pix now... Anyway, must be better than the yellow glow... Cheers...
  21. I was getting like 19mpg on V-Power too, ouch...
