You're in Scotland, so I have no ideas of the rules there now. AFAIK north of the border you're still good to just bin it.

^^^ Great post, thanks matey

Sorry, but that argument doesn't stack up. The world has massively changed in the last 100 years, and cars now massively outweigh horses in terms of what the roads are designed for. The transition period has long gone, and horses simply no longer belong on the vast majority of roads. Of course they still have the legal right to do so, and until that changes I'm firmly in the camp of giving them as much respect as possible as I do with all road users, but that doesn't mean that I think they belong there. Horse sh*t may be good for plants, but that doesn't mean it belongs on the road. If a horse rider has to temporarily use a section of road to cross fields, then that's fair enough (much like the rights farmers in tractors enjoy with regards to licensing issues), but otherwise they simply shouldn't be there. A grass track is for a horse, an asphalt road is for a car. For absolute clarity, anyone who uses the roads without respect for others deserves shooting. Be they horse rider, cyclist, or driver, if you can't respect others and use some common sense when around them then you shouldn't be allowed to use the road.

I'm not a rider so am not overly familiar with the handling traits of bikes and the physics involved, but did he not just have too quick an entry speed which caused him to understeer and drift across the lines? As opposed to a deliberate attempt to take the racing line. Hands up, I didn't watch all the video so have no idea if he was doing that consistently or not.

Probably the same bunch of bellends who have the POLITE hi-vis on.

Hands up...Who cleaned their Zed this weekend..??
Ekona replied to WhackyWill's topic in Car Detailing
Let go of the stalk a bit earlier then, it only activates when you're holding it down. Doesn't it? Been a while since I used one on a Zed, I must admit. I know all my other cars do that. -
Which is exactly what I did, and y'know what? I came to the conclusion that it's very similar to stuff like birds and airfields: Birds have been around for way longer, but they're a pest to airfields that we, mankind, have built so we try and get rid of them from that area. That's exactly what we should be doing with horses. Yes, they used to be great for getting around, but that's when we had tracks worn through the fields and not proper roads with CARS and LORRIES and OTHER BIG BITS OF METAL ON THEM. This is the modern day, and there is no room for horses on the roads as well. You want to be at one with nature on a horse? Fine, then bugger off and ride it in a field or a pasture or the Grand National. Roads are for cars. Deal with it.

People on horseback were around for many, many years before cars. People should think about that before complaining.

Hands up...Who cleaned their Zed this weekend..??

No, the jet is on the arm. If the blades (the actual rubber bit) is duff, then it'll never clean properly. Bosch or PIAA, in either standard or blade flavour. -

Buy some decent wipers then -
I actually thought it was a pretty reasoned debate, really. It didn't descend into farce, and both sides made good points.

*turning ;)

That could be taken in a completely wrong context

I'm not saying that high-speed is not a consideration, indeed I suspect it's a very important part, but I don't think it's the primary one. If I had to sort them, and I'm only guessing here, I'd say this: Lateral grip in dry conditions Feedback (feel) Ability to take high torque at standstill Stability at high speed (coping with high speed in general) Lateral grip in wet conditions ...and a billion other things I'm probably missing.

Can't speak for Renault or Honda, but Seat use MPSC2s. "Wheel offset and tyre size (235/35R19) remain as before but the Bridgestones or Pirellis of standard cars are replaced by the Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2s." http://www.pistonhea...?storyId=29599‎
-
That's for the PS2, and nowhere does it state that the tyre was designed for high-speed. Designed to cope with, yes, but not specifically for.
-
Ultimately that's true, it's a marketing thing, however the big guys don't want to put crap tyres on their supercars: They want the best, so the reviews will be positive and they'll sell more. Also that's missing the one key ingredient that ultimately is more important that anything else, which is that current Zed owners have used the MPSS and are saying that they're worth every penny. Take that into account with the stats that the EU make them put on now, and you ultimately have enough info to make a decision. Also, the PSS are not designed for top speed. That's hogwash, and I'd like to see the source that came from. They were designed to be the best all-rounder, there's a ton of development journo stuff from a couple of years back when these were being made and the journos got invited to test days.

I think the wear issue is worth re-stating again, just for clarity. If Tyres A lasts for 10K miles and costs £100, and Tyre B lasts for 25K miles and costs £200, Tyre B is still the better buy regardless of how you drive. The fact that Tyre B is also the class leader in handling and noise is just a bonus.
-
Good luck getting one of those for less than £18K.

Wow, sh*t got real on this thread without my help. That's a first. The OP asked if there was any tyre noticeably better than what he has now. Unless you're prepared to argue that the 040s are as good as the MPSS, then I'd argue this thread was done about 40 posts ago. Even if you never go anywhere near the extra performance available from the MPSS, the wear rate and wet grip alone make them ideal for anyone from Johnny Speedster to Doris Shopping-trolley. When the numpty pulls out in front of you or slams the anchors on unexpectedly, you may very well be glad that you spent a bit extra getting a tyre that gives maximum grip in all conditions and reduces braking distances.

Pappa's got a brand new Datsun!! Infiniti G37S (Pic heavy)
Ekona replied to stanski's topic in Other Cars
I don't like the outside either, tbh. It does look a bit droopy and saggy and bulbous, but I do like the colour and the inside is massively better than the 370Z. Still not a patch on the equivalent BMW or Audi, but it's a bit bifferent and probably has a bit more character than anything from either brand (M/RS cars excluded). -
It is the best for: Dry road handling Wet road handling Wear rate Noise and fuel economy are irrelevant in a a car that does 23mpg and is noisy from the factory, IMHO. That said, the tyres are marked as C and E for fuel economy front and rear respectively, which beats the 453 at F for both, and they're marked as 71dB which is less than the 72dB again for the 453. Wet handling is defined as A, up against the B of the 453. Even the AD08 (a very good tyre) only achieves fuel efficiency of F, noise of 75 and wet handling of B. I agree with the general point that best is subjective (hell, I've used that argument myself enough times!), but really the MPSS is so far ahead of the competition that it makes the point null and void.

They might, but that would probably then make 2/3 of the internet dyslexic which is significantly higher than the norm. If we assume that 10% actually are dyslexic (as per the BDA), then that makes approx 50% of people who post gibberish nonsense (even though they have a full keyboard in front of them and completed over 10 years of full-time eduction) just lazy. Given that, I'm massively confident that when I pick someone up on atrocious posting, I've a better than 1/5 chance of being correct Also, we all know that any argument on the internet is immediately rendered invalid by a single typo.
