  1. I've been away from the forum too long. Spent the last hour scanning through all the threads on the subject and really can’t believe it. Very sorry to hear all this. My thoughts are with you and your family Andrew. Guy
  2. hi, I've been away too long and really cant believe what I'm reading on other threads. Ice and virtually no thread on tyres is a great mix. In fact at the moment I'm sliding on every surface with or without ice. Must order new tyres today. Keep putting it off.
  3. This past week has been the best fun I've had in the Z in ages. We didn't have near the same amount of snow you guys had but man the ice was fun. Been like a giddy school kid skidding down the pavement to my car every day after work.
  4. Nissan warranty is 3 years. It is here anyway. So a MY06 could have 12 months warranty still on it if it's a December model or two months if it's early 06. That's full Nissan warranty and not third party.
  5. Went to TG Live here in Dublin last Thursday for opening night. €125 per head including a back stage tour. Utter load of shite. Exhibition sucked ass. Most of the cars on display (all for sale) I'd either driven past at some stage in Dublin, seen at other cars shows in Dublin or I know the owners. Cars billed to be on display, eg Koenigsegg, weren't there. Live show itself was a joke. Lads were entertaining as you'd expect but the rest was tat to fill the time. Arena itself was about 75m by 10m so stunt drivers drove up and down doing donuts. Great! As soon as Clarkson said celeb in reasonably priced car I said to my mate if they bring out some Irish wannaby celeb we're out of here. As it turned out we should of walked out anyway. Cool wall was also a joke. They brought out a VW Passat and an Alfa MeToo. The back stage paddock tour was like a cattle market. Herded from one end to the other in record time. Spotted and Gallardo and a GTR that weren't used in the show but by then we just wanted the hell out. I didn’t have much expectations of it being a good show before hand. I even expected to be somewhat disappointed but still couldn’t believe how @*!# it was. I had at least expected to see some super cars, which you’d be lucky to see once on the road, being driven in the arena. Nope. At best Clarkson brought out that supercharged Mustang and barely touched the throttle.
  6. The Maybach video was about a set of headphones. When they put the GTR round the circuit it had miraculously developed a manual shifter according to the in-car video.
  7. For once can we have an F1 discussion that doesn't descend into an FIA/Ferrari rant? The standard ECU that all the teams use is the one that was first developed for McClaren. On topic: Single engine is madness and will force the manufactures out of F1. I don't think it'll happen. I believe it's been put out to tender to push the teams into making a real cost cutting agreement. I would suggest they set a max bhp and torque like they have set a rev limit and a max spending on RND for engine and gearbox. This wouldn't create a single engine supplier but the engines would be so alike that costs would drop. The challenge for the teams would be to find the max acceleration out of the boundaries given to them. If you take the manufacturers out of F1 you end up with a sport not far off A1GP which isn't worth watching as there's absolutely nothing worth seeing. It was meant to be nation against nation but as the drivers are from any country it’s really just a mixture of F1 drop outs and F1 hopefuls who haven’t made it through to the GP2 route. F1 teams have always been slow to come to agreement on anything. There’s a meeting today where the FIA will present three ideas to the FOTA who will probably respond with a bunch of their own cost cutting ideas. One of the FIA’s ideas is to restrict engines to bring them to an equal level of a third party low cost engine which could be supplied to non-manufacture based teams. Not a bad idea but it’ll come down to the fine details of what the restrictions are. The down side of this idea is the gearbox has to come from one supplier for all teams. They wont agree on that one.
  8. Official prices from nissan.ie Coupe €64,345.00 Roadster €67,265.00 Dealer prices Coupe €POA Roadster €69,000 Road tax €2,000 I'm not going to bother converting them to UK because I might cry. When I was in London in August I found it to be very cheap. Granted I didn't have to pay for my accommodation but I have to pay for food and transport when I went out. Taxi's, food, drink all cheap imo. Taxi's were so cheap I didn't bother with the tube. Oh and the solution to the "credit crunch" here is an increase in income tax for the majority, an increase in DIRT, an increase in tax on fuel, drink & smokes and to top it all off an increase in VAT. I'm no accountant but even I know an increase in VAT will have a negative effect on peoples spending.
  9. The one and only difference I can see is Ferrari and other manufactures declare it as a feature and give a warning as to it uses. Eg. on the Enzo you got two runs with it. Then you needed a new clutch. Nissan have made a mistake here and due to the method and cost of manufacture they're not inclined to correct it. The gearbox, like the engine, is basically made in a lab and is a sealed unit. It's also unique to each engine or some such crap. A little amendment to the owners manual would of put all this to rest. Other cars that do have launch control cost twice the price and the buyers are far more wary of the consequences when playing with them or they can well afford any bills. The GTR which costs f-all in comparison is now within arms reach of people who believe every word they hear so long as it's from someone they know. E.g Clarkson says this is how you get LC. Consequence - Billybob thinks it's perfectly normal to use it. There is talk of boxes dying when LC hasn't been used but that's a different issue. From reading the thread on gtr it sounds like one of the clutch plates is dead. As it's sealed in the gearbox itself I think Nissan would rather avoid dealing with this one. I wonder if they even offer a clutch replacement service. My guess would be they’d offer to sell a new box to you or ship yours to Japan. But that’s only a guess.

    DB7 or 9

They're even common here in Dublin. I see more DB9's then I do Z's.
  11. A number of customers with UK orders have letters of confirmation that the warranty will not be invalidated by turning off the VDC. There's a comment on pistonhead that this VDC warranty issue is USA only. I so want to press that button right now.
  12. I seem to remember there was a story that servicing was included in the cost of the car for a period of time. 1 year or whatever. If it's the same in the EU and prices quoted above are accurate do you guys thing second hand value cars will plummet? I'm not saying they'll plummet to be worthless. I talking about the drop after one year when potential buyers realise they'll have to foot one hell of a bill to service it. The original buyer could be taking a hit that just isn't worth it and may even find it difficult to sell on.
  13. Not much point when its shown on premiere. I will see if i can record some of it. What are you particuarly after? It's all right. The video link I posted above shows what I was looking for. I wanted to see just how far Hamilton's lock up took him across the corner. Was interesting to see Kov follow him.
  14. Found video highlights. http://sportshocks.blogspot.com/2008/10 ... japan.html Cant believe the music someone put on this. I advise no sound.
  15. Any other pictures/video available? I know FOM clamp down on online footage very quickly.
  16. That would mean Bourdais would of had to of had a gap of 20 seconds or so to make it out in front of Massa. I cant see it myself. See if someone can explain this. It's from the 2008 F1 Sporting Regulations. 16.1 "Incident" means any occurrence or series of occurrences involving one or more drivers, or any action by any driver, which is reported to the stewards by the race director (or noted by the stewards and referred to the race director for investigation) So just who is in charge? Does the race director report incidents to the stewards or is it the other way round?
  17. ah you're right. The lights in the pit are just warning. Took me a while to find it. 39.2 During the race, drivers leaving the pit lane may only do so when the light at the end of the pit lane is green and on their own responsibility. A marshal with a blue flag and/or a flashing blue light, will also warn the driver if cars are approaching on the track. How do you figure it benefited Ferrari more to impose a penalty after the race on Bourdais? Was Hamilton close enough to Bourdais that had he been given a drive through Hamilton would of passed him as opposed to the 25 sec imposed after the finish?
  18. You know I’m still undecided about this. The Hamilton/Massa situation is fair. The penalty system may need to be addressed but both deserved what they got. Hamilton’s mistake on turn one could of ended the GP. I can’t remember ever seeing someone lock up on turn one of lap one and effectively cross the path of all the other cars. Massa also stuffed up and deserved the penalty. He’d lost the place and should of accepted it. Both drivers were probably fuming from the turn one incident and neither were going to let up. Had Massa known how bad Hamilton’s tyres were he would of let him go. Hamilton on the other hand knew how bad the tyres were and was still prepared to take the risk of trying to out brake Massa. Should he of taken the risk? Only he knows what was going through his mind. Had he made it past cleanly how far was he prepared to travel on 50 pence piece tyres? I suspect Ron will have some serious words with him. The conservative approach to winning both championships was thrown out the window. The Massa/Bourdais situation is iffy. Initially I shouted at the TV. I couldn’t believe Massa had allowed himself to be in that situation. He would of seen Bourdais and I thought he should and would of eased off. Here’s the thing though. The rule is when exiting the pit lane you give way to traffic. Blue lights are on and it doesn’t matter a toss if it’s for position. Most of the time we see situations like this where the driver exiting the pit lane is far enough ahead to completely cover the racing line. In this case I think Bourdais’ mirrors would have been so filled with Ferrari he was probably screaming “holly f******g s*** b*****â€
  19. I remember that place. People rent the cars and drive up and down the strip. F*****g tourists was a phrase I heard muttered a lot whenever a Ferrari rolled past. Hertz did have the Z. Don't know if they still do. Not something you could book over the web and was only available at select locations.
  20. I would advise not even googling it.
  21. I don't get it Tell me It involves 2 girls & 1 cup - google it Please don't. A friend showed me the video. Tricked me. Said it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen.
  22. For the record that worked a treat. I've been racking my brain trying to remember how I did it with an Epson and I think there was set software that came with it but Stanski solution works much better than the Epson stuff.
  23. I'd be worried if they didnt Both my Z's do it buuuuuuuuuut my second Z didn't when I first got it but only for a very short time.
