Just caught up with this. I don't particulalrly like the aforementioned German brand for various reasons, but I'd never take it personally or dislike anyone for their choice of car or opinion. Does seem very harsh Kev and I haven't even read the thread on the other site - can't even be bothered to get that far. Stay here, all are welcome!
  2. Not as far as I know without some kind of resistor in line on the speaker cable as the output is not a standard level. Then you're not getting the full benefit of the speaker IMO.
  3. Spec, depends if you want to mod it or not. Then there's not a massive choice. Standard or GT. Both still have the main bit though..... engine and looks!
  4. Don't think you can change the height of the head lights...... Glad you enjoying the Zed. The doesn't go away!
  5. While you've got the front speakers out, put a bit in behind the speaker. Dynamat do a speaker kit which a couple of 8" (ish) square sheets. Extreme is lighter and more effective and worth the extra couple of £££. Personally, avoid Japanese speakers. They're made to a budget / look more often than not, and aren't the best. Some Focal / JL Audio / Boston Acoustics would be way better. Focal Polyglass 165V1's JL Audio TR650CSi Both about £150 and top quality speakers. At the end of the day, if possible try and listen to them IN A CAR, not on a board in a shop. A decent local installer may well help you and make sure you get to make the right choice first time.
  6. Repost I don't use Auto Glym everything, it's just the questions that get asked!!
  7. +1 And add that you should put 10% of budget aside for matching quality cabling (trust me it makes a difference) and at least Dynamat behind the front speakers.
  8. Not sure about the non-BOSE, will do some investigating...
  9. Bloody hell H5 what you planning blinging orange???
  10. For fear of sounding repetitive... Auto Glym do a good leather cleaner and a leather treatment.
  11. Come on guys, we all know kennyc is a compulsive liar........
  12. There must be a few places around that you could get a quote? Is there a local modified car website or anything as they usually have some useful links for things like paint work.......
  13. Apologies...... Have you had any quotes yet Sarnie?
  14. In parts Take some araldite and add one part Birds Custard powder.....
  15. Agred, but on that budget wouldn't suggest it. Be good to see what you've done. Gonna have to put my install on hold til next year now, still waiting for insurance money.
  16. Robs list is also full of quality kit. Essentially, avoid Japanese amps, speakers and subs and you'll be fine!! A mix of any of that kit would be great, have also heard all of that stuff too. I'd start with the head unit, front speakers and Dynamat in the front doors (even a speaker kit would add to it) and save the rest. That way, you get real install quality and get to enjoy gains in sound each time you change something. EDIT: Rob, your list has 12" subs? They would have no chance in getting in behind the drivers seat so bare that in mind on the install front!
  17. Infinity speakers generally I find OK. A little bright (harsh on treble) but OK. It's all down to what signal they get too. Ask to listen to them (not on a board!) in a car and make sure you take your music and the head unit settings are at zero (eq etc) to see what you think. It's all up to you, it's your car and ears.
  18. Good suggestion. If you're going to do it, the right stuff will make a huge difference. Suggestions for a base level and half decent quality of sound are as follows:- DVD player including touch screen - Alpine DV100R - £600 TV tuner - Alpine TUE-T112P - £100 Amp - DLS CA41 4 channel - £269 Speakers - JL Audio 6" VR components - £250 Sub - JL Audio W3 V2 D2 - £170 Cables and Dynamat - £100 plus...... I know that doesn't completely fit the budget but personally wouldn't suggest cheaper stuff. I've heard all of that kit listed and it's all top quality. All prices off www.caraudiodirect.co.uk, and are below rrp. Your installer, if a dealer too, would probably do a good deal on the total kit and install. If you want a couple of places that would do that, let me know.
  19. The sound proofing in that list would be the difference IMHO. You can make a £70 pair of speakers isntalled properly sound like a £300 pair of speakers 'just screwed in'. If the installers you're looking at going to are audio bods they wouldn't do it without (unless you insisted!) Does the 1.2k include installation? If so, it could be tight getting all of that and a decent install. Are you wanting the sub moved to the boot area or are they hoping to use the space behine the driver's seat? Now for the list........
  20. OK, that helps. So your shopping list is:- Touch Screen TV tuner DVD player? Amp(s) Speakers Sub Cables Installation Sound proofing? Is that right, or are you installing it yourself? Then kit selection can start!
  21. If rear speakers are in my car they're only ever there as rear fill. I turned my bass up to +4 and then fade the unit forward by a couple of clicks. OK but not great. Definite improvement.
  22. I hate white cars, but there's something about the Zed........
  23. What do you want the 1.2k to get you? If you're talking head unit, speakers, amp, sub etc. you should be ok but unless you're a dab hand it would all benefit from a little bit of a pro's touch to get the best out of the kit. Don't know anything about the screen but you need to be careful with two things on car screens - reflection and viewing angles. On cheap screens it can make them useless and dangerous. What do you want to use the system for?
