  1. Its the standard 350Z phnoe cradle and fits some old Nokia models. However, you can now purchase (search this site) from Nissan Dealers a Bluetooth adaptor that fits in the cradle and will pair with any compatible Bluetooth phone, giving you a hands-free kit wired through the sound system. If you have a MY '06 car your dealer WILL provide you with one FOC - That is if he/she can get their act together!
  2. According to the recent Myths Buster programme the best chrome cleaner was Cola applied with tin foil ......... JohnK (In his bunker - awaiting fallout!)
  3. Three things: 1) If you hit the kerb whilst moving, have the wheel alignment checked asap - on a hi-tech four laser system. 2) I would have changed all four tyres at the same time. 3) Practise parking alongside kerbs! Plus, really get to know your tyre fitters - talk to them at length. JohnK
  4. Took delivery of my GRAN TURISMO 4 (the Upper Case is the branding on the PS2 box I’m afraid!) on 1st September 2005. One year and 24,000 miles later I thought some of you might be interested in my experiences and education with regard to wheels and tyres, so here goes….. At exactly 36 miles I managed to kerb both nearside wheels on one of those big kerbstones on the inside of left hand bends in main roads. What I learnt then was that the Z is wider than my Saab 93! What I should have learnt we’ll come to at 24,000 miles (below). My next learning was how easy the GT4 wheels are to clean so they’re not just nice to look at! For the record they are different to those on that Rotary thing (the GT4 wheels are more stylish) but they also look good on the Z whereas the similar wheel doesn’t seem to make the RX8 special. A couple of weeks later I learnt that that the kerbside parallel parking places in Oxford seem to be about one foot narrower than elsewhere and low profile tyres mean the wheel itself is below kerb height, but at least it was the nearside again! After a few weeks I thought I’d finally got used to the width, parking spaces, etc. so I looked for somewhere to get the wheels refinished. I was recommended to a West Oxfordshire company called WheelTech who have a mobile service, and Simon turned out and duly did the business on the two nearside wheels for the princely sum of £50 per wheel. An excellent finish but he hates doing them because the “illusionâ€
  5. Thats great - I'll download them just as soon as I get over this moving house thing!
  6. Thanks for the feedback guys. My son decided not to buy it. The dealer had said it could be fixed under the warranty after we'd bought it as long as we did the claim through him. Sounded to me like he knew there was something wrong but he didn't want to spend the money before the sale if he could get it back on insurance! Cheers!
  7. Afraid so, they have it at something like 75% of them, dont have the article to hand with the exact figure. I have been trying to find a list of them (which I will then turn into a POI for the satnav.....) Did you do a POI for your SatNav? If it's a TomTom unit, can I grovel for a copy? Cheers, JohnK
  8. My son just taken me to look at a Rover 214 he might buy. When cold the engine has a very distinct tap (almost like a diesel!) coming from the left hand end of the block. This quietens when the engine warms up but can still be heard. Quick question - anyone know if this is a "feature" of the K-series engine? Ta, JohnK p.s. Car has done 47,000 miles
  9. One other point about checking the oil.... I have had a few reports of dealers (not neccessarily Nissan) during service only filling up the oil to the "min" mark. Seems it saves them money!!! Worth checking even after you get it back from your agent... JohnK
  10. ... in the M&S/Sainsbury's car park. I parked next to you.
  11. I'm just wondering if those of you who claim to dislike UY are really just jealous of those of us who own the most exclusive colour of this exclusive car.....
  12. I drive 150 miles each way to the dealer who supplied my car. I trust them and they've fixed several warranty niggles although it does sometimes take more than a day and/or more than the single visit. I've tried three local dealers and in two of them I never got past service reception. I dont need to be treated like an idiot as a starting point for a customer relationship. The third one was sort of ok after I made sure I convinced them I knew what I was talking about, but workshop experience was frustrating - "yes sir,we've had your car for a day and we can confirm there is a problem - would you like to book it in for us to look into it further......." So off to Exeter I go. We plan the visits to fit in with parts delivery and any service needed. I get a courtesy car for the day (so far its been a Micra, then an Almeira and last time a Pathfinder, and I spend a day in my favourite part of the UK! Cheers JohnK
  13. Im so sorry that I never made it. My business/house move had gone totally pear-shaped and although my son, a friend and I have rescued the business move the house contents is now going into store and I'm becoming a traveller for a few weeks! Hope you all had a great time and perhaps next year...
  14. Regarding the "accident".... It was interesting to note that when the camera panned round the two offside wheels of the tow car were on the grass verge at the front of the garage forecourt. Still, its only license payers money...

I also e-mailed them asking for equipeed locations in my area. Bet they cant understand why all the sudden interest! I also suggested they put an index of equipped locations on their site, a bit like Greenenergy do for their 99Ron Tesco Petrol locations. I said it might help persuade some more depots to install the kit. No reply as yet!

However, I've just tried to locate my nearest Britannia Tyres and they dont seem to have a website! Google comes up with a few different branches but nothing local to me. Are the nationwide (no, not the building society) or do they have a directory somewhere? Thnks

I'm really impressed. This new technology will never catch on though (thats what my Dad told me when I started programming in 1964!!). Thanks for taking the time to input all that in info.
  18. Worth bearing in mind - I dont think all dealers use the same make/pattern of sensors and I mention this because the pattern fitted to my car have specific painting instruction that require the groove in the sensor to be masked when painting (the kit includes small rings to be used for masking - but some bodyshops just throw them away). If the groove is painted, then later, some of the paint will flake off spoiling the look of your rear!
  19. No problem like that on mine. Doesn't help much but thought I'd let you know!!
  20. Got you on there Sarnie! Could you send me your VIN sometime, just for the record: johnk@pceffect.co.uk. Ta.

  23. It says: "Are there any restriction on mounting the system? No, the antenna is an adhesive strip 2000mm in length, that sticks to the inside of either a plastic or metal bomper. The small control unit can located either behind the bumper, under the wheel arch or in the boot of the vehicle." Just going to look for my bomper...
  24. OK. Subject to last minute problems I'll be there (I'm moving house on the 25th so an trying to do some prep. now to avoid panicing that weekend). I see gates open at 6am, and first "event" starts at 10am. Is there an optimum arrival time to aim for? I presume just pay at the gate and follow the map? Anyone got the showground postcode so I can TomTom my way cross-country? And just in case the weather is bad, are there any facilities for giving my love a wash down when I arrive? Should I bring bucket and mitt? Looking forward to it!
