  1. Which part has failed? The bush can be replaced - a new one is only about £30.
  2. Well, no. Not regardless of cost. That would be silly. Imagine if you owned a 1985 Rover worth £500, and someone drives into it. The parts needed are no longer made so they need to re-tool which costs £2M. Do they HAVE to do that? Yes, that's a deliberately silly one, but the point is true. You could try suing the TP for damages like I said, but you'd have to prove negligence or that they owed you a duty of care, and then you'd still have to convince the judge that paying £7K to fix a car worth £6K is worth it. Never, ever going to happen. Well it is regardless of cost, they don't have any get out clause with you. Whilst your extreme example probably would go the way you suggest, when we're taking a 5k repair versus a 10k repair, they have to pay. The whole insurance industry is geared up to make it as easy and cheap for themselves, hence you would have to fight it yourself and it wouldn't be quick or easy.
  3. Common sense or not, TPI has no contract with you, therefore it is their obigation to pay for their client's actions, regardless of cost. Of course an expensive rebuild doesn't often happen in the real world, as you described, but regardless, they have no power over you at all (not that they believe this....).
  4. Seeing as you are the aggrieved party, the other person's insurance company has absolutely ZERO right to write it off. You have no contract with them. Their contract is to cover damage caused by their client. They are, therefore, completely liable to fix your car to the condition it was in prior to their client messing it up. OK, so they will try their damndest to wriggle out of it and say it's a write off - tough luck, they've no right to. They'll produce all sorts of nonsense to try and force you into submission, tell them where to stick it. You insurance company shouldn't be involved at all, short of the initial notification.
  5. Would you sell just the locking nuts and socket?
  6. I'm finding that my remote unlocking isn't working at all well when it's sub-zero. Damn irritating.

I love DPD's tracking, and that they give you an idea of where you are in the delivery queue. Although they did still manage to lose a friend's Land Rover door. Their response: "you'll be amazed what we lose" Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence
  8. 2 decats from an old custom system that came with the car. One has been welded up a few times and is slightly bent - not in great nick, but did work ok when it was on. I think there is a slight hole in the middle weld *would be fine with some exhaust paste). The other is ok. Only looking for £15 collected, figured they may be of use to someone.
  9. Damn people pay a lot for someone to unscrew a bolt, undo a filter and the reverse, plus pouring a bit of oil in the top!
  10. Christ, did the missus put her foot down or something??
  11. There is some light damage on this - a few of the clip holders are snapped and a little of the rail is too - none of which was noticeable when fitted. Fitting may require a little adhesive/putty where the clip holders are damaged (you can see where I had done it, with the black blobs). Paint has some light scratches, but nothing major. £30 collected.
  12. My Dad's got one rusting away on the drive. Hasn't driven for probably 15 years, but I'm still tempted to sort it out one of these days
  13. Mine is about ten years old and it fits my land rover, shelving down the side, work bench at the back, with room to work and you can still open the driver's and rear door completely. One of the few garages built to a useful size in recent years I guess
  14. I have the rear box only, in Basingstoke, if it's any use

  16. A contract doesn't have to be written - it's just easier to prove and rely on if it is. Is there not some sort of data protection act breach if they've given a third party your details? Banding about court letters usually shuts people up though. And if it doesn't, as has been said, seems like you've got a good case
  17. The wife used to work in a theatre and they'd often get people asking this sort of thing, so I'd start with them. They're probably in the best place to guide you as to how to do it if it isn't directly through them.
