  1. A GREAT accountant is one of the very best things on which you can spend money, I know this because I got a GREAT VALUE acountant, so I've had to be much more hands on than I initially wanted to be. On the plus side, I've learnt alot. On the down side I've had more contact from HMRC than I would like. This might be a bit soon for your anticipated size of operation but well worth thinking about. Getting on the Flat Rate VAT scheme was one of the best things I've done. For my sector, that means I charge VAT at 20% (like everyone else) but I pay VAT back at a Flat Rate of 14.5%, this is obviously favourable. Also, when I enrolled you got a 1% discount in the first year, so paid it back at 13.5% - making it even more attractive. Having that coming in, even if you are under the mandatory VAT turnover threshold is very useful for cash flow, as you get the cash in upfront on top of your invoice. Do remember to put some away for the quarterly bill though and don't ever miss paying that bill, of all of them it's highly important! I'd also see what trade bodies might apply to your sector, as they often can get you good deals on services (a lot like being on here) and free advice from experienced people. I pay something like £260 a year for mine and I get legal support and access to cheaper tax specialists etc etc. I wish I'd done it sooner, as I paid nearly 4 times that for something like 6 hours specialist advice I needed becuase of what I've said in the first paragraph
  2. Belkin cup holder mount FTW, it goes everywhere you do and doesn't have to be stuck to anything. http://www.belkin.com/uk/p/P-F8J168/ 60% of the time, it works everytime.
  3. Whilst everyone is at everyone, what's with the multiple full stops after most of your posts? Lifted from Wikipedia... Ellipsis (plural ellipses; from the Ancient Greek: ἔλλειψις, élleipsis, "omission" or "falling short") is a series of dots that usually indicates an intentional omission of a word, sentence, or whole section from a text without altering its original meaning.[1] Depending on their context and placement in a sentence, ellipses can also indicate an unfinished thought, a leading statement, a slight pause, a mysterious, echoing voice, or a nervous or awkward silence. Aposiopesis is the use of an ellipsis to trail off into silence—for example: "But I thought he was . . ." When placed at the beginning or end of a sentence, the ellipsis can also inspire a feeling of melancholy or longing.
  4. As a keen drunk, I'm extremely happy
  5. We should have more quizzes, maybe multiple guess with radio buttons. Winner gets a boner and to feel special. Loser gets belittled, perhaps in some sort of stocks with their pants down?
  6. I'm intrigued, what makes you think that a combination of new technology and all the extensive R&D that goes with that will mean that the resulting product will become cheaper in the mid-term? Currently the Leaf is virtually double the price of the Micra, how will ploughing a lot of money into developing an EV that can still only do circa half the range of the comparable ICE bring down the price of said EV? Or do you suppose that the price of the increasingly reduntant ICE car will double as a result of selling in fewer numbers? The depreciation and high purchase price is only an issue if you plant to actually own the thing, I'm not convinced that most people own thier cars outright, I don't have the stats but from the look of my car park at work and talking to colleagues, most are paying some sort of monthly payment. So if you can pay the same per month as you can for and ICE vehicle, but have virtually no fuel bills and no road tax (are they cheap to insure?), does it matter that it's not yours? Also, you get a new one every few years, which with the pace of change is perfect for the EV model of ownership as a second car, which let's face it is the only way you'd have one. You'd need a proper car as well.
  7. When I did my reverse cam I seem to remember there being a rubber hole in the boot into the bumper recess. It'd a PITA to keep taking in and out, but if you could fit it there perma and just connect when needed it might be good for exhaust racket and also minimal wind as it's behind the bumper. I'll see if I can find a pic. Shamelessly lifted from here. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/56481-kenwood-ddx-4028bt-rear-cam-install-–-superguide/
  8. mpss or the ditch, you decide
  9. I'd want better condition rubber for an all expenses paid trip to a third world brothel, but for the road, looks fine
  10. Handy or scary that that was printed off and in the car? Either way, hopefully that's the end of it
  11. If you've got an OBD2 reader plug it in and post the codes, if you haven't do a quick search on here for pedal dance and then film the sequence on your phone, then post it up.
  12. There's an awful lot to like, I can see why you're very pleased with it. Looks a bit more special than everything else in its class too, IMHO.
  13. Just had one of these for work for the weekend, only manage to put 400 miles into her but very pleasant indeed. Not driven a hybrid nor a Lexus before, so was quite pleased to get it over the BMW 320D. Super easy to cruise on the motorway and the stealth levels over the Zed mean I may have even troubled a speed camera (fingers crossed I didn't), as it climbs up to speed very easily once your on the move. Felt a bit hefty off the m-way, but I guess they got to fit a few laptop batteries in there somewhere. Coped well with a load of rubbish that had to go to the tip, which stood no chance of making my zed all filthy I've had my eye on the prices of hybrid Infinitis for a while, so this gave me a little taster of that world. I was super excited about having both the motor and the engine hurling me forward in sport mode, but it wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped. I wanted it to make my knickers wet but it never happened. I wanted to play flappy paddles, but it just overuled my commands, so I gave up quite quickly. Got 48mpg with 90% motorway cruising, not exactly diesel territory but I'd take the hit for the increased refinement personally. Astonishingly easy to drive around, particularly if you are crunching miles. Quiet, comfortable, very nicely equipped (though the satnav map is something from a ZX81) the dash plastics had taken a bit of beating in mine, but it was a rental. I love the "hand" brake down in the footwell, makes perfect sense there. I can't see past an auto in the next car, I love the stamp and go launch.
  14. When will people realise that CHANGE IS NOT GOOD!!!!
  15. Merc C63 AMG Estate (for everyday practicality) £22,175 Maserati GranTurismo (for Sunday best) £34,950 Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible (for sunny days) £29,850 Caterham Supersport (for track fun) £12,250 The remaining £775 I'd splash on detailing goodies.
  16. If you don't enjoy driving in North West Scotland, you don't enjoy driving
  17. Reality check. Everything is utterly pointless, everyone will eventually turn to dust. All you do is have fun along the way!
  18. Has WW hijacked your account Matt? Not very progressive views on lady drivers Hot on the heels of lesson #127 yesterday, Lesson #128 - Don't Believe Everyting Car Rental Guy Says When I went to pick up a Lexus IS300H for work this weekend (need back seats), I was surprised to hear, "Just so you know, this is a Diesel Sir." "Are you sure? It's a hybrid diesel, not a hybrid petrol?" "No, diesel it is Sir." Naturally it was low on fuel when they dropped it off, so my first stop was for a fill up. Confident in the expertise and knowledge of the professional car rental man I had spoken to, just 5 minutes previously, I pulled up to the dirty, slippery zone denoting DERV filling. I held my nose and proceeded to the pump. I found it very strange that the diesel nozzle wouldn't even fit in the filler hole. I found it even more strange upon inspection that the inside of filler flap has a sticker, which reads UNLEADED FUEL ONLY. I am very pleased that modern vehicles and pumps have different size appertures Phone call an hour later. "Just so you know Sir, that is acutally a petrol, not a diesel." "Yes. Yes it is."
  19. I wish I'd drilled pilot holes.
  20. Bit of artistic licence there, it was actually Taylor Swift N.W.A.
