  1. Ouch! Indeed, quite a good design on the zed. Also much better than my friend's 911. Old hub was horrible and graunchy but I found it came out quite easily with a little heat around the aluminium housing and a mallet on the four bolts which I only undid a few turns. Drives nice now. 2 hours in total including jacking the car up etc.
  2. Cheers. I'll have a heat gun and mallet on standby!
  3. Hello all, Front wheel hub: Am I correct in thinking it's just disc and caliper off, four bolts out on the back of the hub and new one in? I ask as I need to do it quite quickly on Saturday morning in order to reach the first pub of a Christmas pub crawl :-)
  4. Did swapping the tyres round sort it?
  5. I've been a busy little zed owner recently. Oil and filter change, new discs and pads, cleaned up the calipers and pistons, cleaned in the wheel arches and underneath the car, had the wheels refurbished, new Goodyear Eagle F1s all round. £££ Changed the spark plugs too, I think these were original... at 70k miles! See photo - they look a little worn. If anyone can do diagnosis based on the photo please do! Engine idles silky smooth now - on the original plugs it wasn't rough as such, just slightly less than silky smooth in comparison. Brakes, unworn! Wheels refurb'd and new tyres: Old plug, possibly original:
  6. I went to MyAlloys in Basingstoke. £60+vat per wheel. Centre caps £8+vat each. One wheel needed straightening which was £25+vat. Seemed like a good professional business, quite a big place with lots of cars there - some of which were very expensive! As there was some corrosion they advised against the standard matt silver finish and instead advised a sparkly silver colour. They cleaned up the corrosion and the edges (which look perfect now), then did a powder coat base, paint, then powder lacquer. Wheels are spot on apart from the fact that where the straightening process (I assume) left some indentations combined with some little raised bits they did not smooth them off before painting. On the inside of the rim so can't really be seen. I had tyres sent there from black circles (cheaper than from MyAlloys) and they fitted them at no additional cost. Here's a couple of pics:
  7. Hello all, Quick question, hopefully not a stupid one. I'll be resting my 350Z on jack stands for a few days - with regard to the sill seam that runs down the length of the car and having some sort of slotted puck/piece of wood diverting the load off the seam, the outer side of the seam seems rather flimsy plastic and the inner side is metal. Should the load of the car be on both sides (so this includes the outer plastic side) or should the stands be placed just on the inside thus avoiding the seam altogether? Just a thought as the usual thing is to spread the load on each side of the seam but on the 350Z with the plastic outer I'm not so sure on this car. Also, the inner side of the seam sits lower than the outside, so some sort of slotted puck arrangement would need to be thicker on the outside. e.g., on both sides like this: http://g35driver.com/forums/attachments/picture-share/134412d1299854487-jack-stands-g-z_07_lr.jpg or just on the inside like this http://smg.photobucket.com/user/LT1SS/media/IMG_0393.jpg.html Just thought I'd check as I haven't had the car long and don't want to be a plonker and have it fall over or something equally daft. Cheers
  8. Hello all, Just to be clear, the Fuchs oil that is being recommended - is it this one? http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60169-silkolene-pro-s-5w-30-ester-synthetic-oil-for-high-performance-engines.aspx Cheers
  9. I have completed the fuel sender fix and it seems to work properly now. There was no visible dirt on the resistors but a resistance measurement revealed only very slightly erratic readings so cleaned them up anyway and checked that the readings were subsequently correct. Hardest bit was getting the fuel pump back in - I wasn't sure if the fuel hose was sitting underneath it but with a bit of wiggle I could feel the base of the pump was on the bottom. Took it up to see some friends in Aylesbury and they were very complimentary and envious of the car .
  10. Cheers, looks like a good option. Don't worry, there's no shame!
  11. Hello all, Just taken delivery of a nice new GoPro 4 and a Boyo microphone. I do some filming of stuff on my motorbikes such as track days and and want to get some decent car footage and decent audio of engine/exhaust note on my nice newly acquired zed Does anyone know of a route out of the car cabin to the underneath of the car i.e. so I can route the microphone lead through and mount the mic somewhere near the exhausts? The hole needs to be big enough to poke through a 3.5mm stereo jack. Or any other good places to mount the mic (would it be good in the engine bay or would it just be a racket?) with a route to get there from the cabin? Not sure if it'd be ok to run it out the door or boot lid, cable might get damaged. I'd mount the GoPro in the cabin, not too keen having it on the outside. Cheers, Alex
  12. Thank you chaps (and any chapesses). No mod plans at present, just some general tidying up. Might go as far as grit blasting or powder coating the aluminium plenum cover which currently looks a little tatty!
  13. Hello all, I'm new here. This has been a valuable forum for the best car choice anyone can make (just getting some brownie points in the bank) and the buyers guides were excellent for this car, and in fact guidance for buying any used motor. I've purchased this 2004 GT: Last owner installed the newer version of the rear lights which really updates and improves the look of the rear end: Driver seat leather is worn. I've seen Scuffmaster (http://www.liquidlea....com/scuffs.htm) to recondition the leather - anyone have experience of it? It's got a bitchin' stereo system with bluetooth connectivity, USB, hands free and all that jazz that I haven't figured out yet. She drives lovely. Once the rear tyres need replacing (this may not be long after my first 'proper' drive this evening...) I would like the wheels refurbished. I think the fuel gauge does not reflect reality so that'll need looking at. I also looked at a 2006 (~£500 tax) car with a missing undertray and a shoddy interior, the dealer wanted £9999! He gave it all the nonsense about being a rare sought after car that he can't sell enough of etc., with which my reply was it's been for sale for 3 months. There was some sales pitch about the car having an RAC mechanical check but it didn't pick up it was missing the undertray. Another one I looked at had loud exhausts (awesome but a bit chavvy for me) and a strange feeling clutch (felt strong but bite point was very high indeed) and didn't seem to drive that well. There was a puff of blue smoke on start up and I noticed in the very comprehensive service history, for which I was impressed, the car was investigated for overheating. Perhaps that should be one receipt that gets mislaid... This one I ended up with is really nice to drive and although a few minor cosmetics and a couple of minor niggles [hopefully fixable] I'm quite pleased. Cheers.
