  1. ^ Absolutely, the noise at 9,000rpm even with a standard airbox is epic, the chassis, the brakes, the turn in, the bolstered seats, the whole feel is superb! It is much more a drivers car than a standard Zed but that's chalk and cheese, they are both brilliant in my humble opinion!
  2. ^^ agree with everything you've said there. They really are that good! It does make me long for my old one, I didn't have the GT Spec and am very jealous of the OP! Threads like this are why I really like this forum, there don't seem to be any blinkers with the Zed and how good/bad it is to other cars
  3. Beautiful car! I loved my S2000 and only sold due to relocating down south. I very nearly got another one but went for the Z instead - you have my ideal jab car driveway Without meaning to argue they are not easy to lose in the dry at all, they are just less forgiving than most cars. I had a MY2000 so it was the rigid chassis with no electronic trickery whatsoever. So long as you've had the cars suspension correctly aligned and good tyres its a fabulous motor. In the wet you have to keep a watch out for drain covers and what not but I only ever had one incident in mine and that was due to black ice at the end of a bypass, thankfully I wasn't going quickly and the slide was very easy to control, I used the car right through the snowy christmas 2 years ago and it only got stuck the once
  4. RIP. Sorry to hear of your loss but your words are lovely and made me well up Life can be cruel but it sounds very much like Jill saw and loved more in her 55 years than many do in their entire lifetimes.
  5. As above, I've seen many disk problems over the years and they can be a real pain! OnTrack is pretty decent and can be found for a good price Also any sort of Linux boot CD, they are quite good these days and can mount your drives and allow you to copy between them. (http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm) Other things to check are the file system on the external disk (make sure it is NTFS as FAT32 has a limit on path size and file size) What's displayed in Windows disk manager? It might just be it needs a drive letter assigning.... If its got a drive letter Open a command prompt, type "chkdsk x:" (x being your drive letter, e:/f:/g: etc) and report back with the results (This command is read only so you won't have any issues)
  6. No worries Tim, I'll be sure you have a message one way or the other by Sunday
  7. Hi Tim, Beth says its all working and the reason they changed it was her previous boss was having her kitchen done out and didn't need hers so Beth took it as a chance to upgrade. Depending on who's coming to Reading with Beth on Sunday we'll try and get it into her Corsa, failing that we might be able to borrow her Mum's 307, failing that it'll have to be after Xmas unfortunately. I've got a photo of it if you'd like? It should probably be in a museum really
  8. Beth's checking to see if it works still (we're pretty sure it did) and we'll try getting into the car with the seats down (like a challenge) if you're happy to collect from Reading?
  9. Dammit, if above doesn't have them - I will
  10. I'm ashamed to admit I quite enjoy driving Beths 3 cylinder corsa, its slow, not attractive but has a certain charm to it..... its effortless somehow
  11. Some great comments in here - especially the dentist I phoned a local place back at home (Wales) and he said £20 for two, cash! Sold! If they rays were mint I'd be a little more fussy but they're not and as I say they need a refurb!
  12. Agree with the above, its also the recycling charge too - but if you're happy to take them to your local tip where disposal is free its no biggy. No disrespect Dan but £60 an hour for fitting tyres? £60 an hour for a damn good mechanic I'd say.
  13. ^^ Really?? Previously at home in Mid Wales I'd been paying £5 a corner! Its not a hard or time consuming task. I think this price was some main 'chain' place. My brother said the guy pulled his calculator out and stood there for 2 mins probably 'x2' the price with every click - I should also point out that I'll be getting my wheels refurbed in the next few months so at the minute a crow bar and hammer wouldn't bother me Indeed, I've provided my own tyres Brother has found another place now £15 a corner. I'm home at the weekend so might just wait and take it to my olde haunt. I think my brother is just enjoying driving the Z around tbh!
  14. Got to laugh at this, my brother just took my car to a tyre place next to Cavasham bridge in Reading (for those that know it?) to get my front two tyres changed...... they wanted £60 Needless to say he said there was a little bit less rubber on the rears the speed he got out of there!
  15. I have the same issue and have decided I'm going to get the ES Master Bushing Kit after Xmas and do the work over a few weekends I'm pretty sure its the banana arm as well.
  16. Tim, where are you based? From memory my g/f bought her folks a new one a year back and I'm almost certain the old one is in the garage. Trouble is the garage is in the SY21 postcode area. If its of interest I'll ask Beth if its still about. Dave edit: Ah just reread your post - I don't know if it would fit in her Corsa but if it does she could bring it as far as Reading.....
  17. And I think all of the other cars listed are better in some way, Ive tracked everything else (other than an FD) mentioned here - main reasons that they are lighter and faster which is kinda the point of a track car for me. I would love to take my MR2, 306 and Zed on track on the same day - I already know the other two are more fun and it wouldnt suprise me to find they are quicker too. Im perhaps a little biased, but you can easily find a decent condition track specced 350hp 200SX for £4K now, you dont have to do anything else and theres loads of room for wheels as well. Zeds are great and all, but they are GT cars, not track weapons IMO. +1 Having done a few trackdays myself bang for buck I had more fun in my Prelude which was light as anything after I'd removed all the modcons (aircon, abs, PS, sound proofing, balance shafts, interior) If the post had been "I want a great car for the road and to hoon on the occasional track day" then yes, the Z is almost untouchable, however for a track car and having had one the S2000 would be my number 1 choice for the price - beautiful engine, gearbox, poise and response
  18. As the others have said, only really you can answer your own question. I generally use mine on the motorway or for blasts around the country side when I get home, my mrs has also used it a fair bit as well. Using the tesco 98 ron fuel I am getting about 300 miles for £56 - that's a staggering 33mpg! Obviously in town and blasting you get less. Tyres for midrange are £130-220. I love mine and would never change it, but I am 30 now and at this moment in time have a good income.
  19. I agree with that, however I'd say use an S2000, infinitely better car and has grunt that MX5 lacks.
