The popular swap is between the airbox fitted to the '03-'05 VQ35DE and the '06 Rev-Up VQ35DE, NOT the HR. The '06 Rev-Up airbox is identical in every way to the earlier version except for the velocity stack leading into the intake pipe, which is larger and more effective. If you somehow managed to bodge a single HR airbox onto a DE it would probably cause noticable power loss, because (as I'm assuming you noticed) the HR uses two of them. DB

If it's a good (by which i mean effective) piece of keystroke software, then any manual checking of installed programs will likely get you nowhere. Get yourself some proper protection software (something decent like Vipre 2013, not Norton etc) and let it do its thing. Unless its REALLY nasty then that should get rid of anything on there and also give you peace of mind that no one can do it again. Worst case is that nothing gets found and you've ruled out the problem being at your end. DB

I just spoke to our IT/security director about this, and he's pretty sure you've got some keystroke-logging software on your machine. You don't need physical access to a machine to do this, so X not having had access to your machine is irrelevant. Also whilst it is more unlikely, it can definitely be done to a mac just as easily as a PC. It can also happen to smartphones as well, anything with web access basically. The other question he asked is have you been changing your numbers via a web-based service on your PC? As this would explain the phone number changing issue by exposure to key-logging. If not, then the phone numbers thing is a bit odd, basically X would need to have a friend at the phone company (not as far fetched as it sounds, it's happened before) to be getting your numbers if you genuinely haven't been telling anyone. He also told me to slap you for linking your facebook to an email account that you believe to be compromised; you're just making it easier. The overall concensus is that however this is happening, it basically has to involve something pretty illegal, so get the police involved. Hope you get it sorted. DB

well the fibreglass one is a bargain at a mere £1500 DB

The genuine Top Secret bonnet that the Seibon one is a copy of is around £2000 if you want it in carbon DB

Yea, it's impressive in that it's a wrap and it looks like paint, but it's not exactly defining new boundaries. We've had something else around for a while now that looks like paint. It's called paint. Can't imagine it was any cheaper than a paint job either. DB

I couldn't say whether or not you'd have to go to court, I think it would depend on how the police responded to your objection. They might just admit they were wrong and leave it at that. I would have thought if you went to court and won you'd get expenses back as well, but really not an area I have had any experience with. Personally I'd fight it just because I don't think they should be able to get away with bull***t like this (if everything happened the way you say it did). It looks like the rozzers saw your car (which let's face it isn't exactly inconspicuous) and though 'oooo goody, modified car let's have some fun'. It's happened to me before and I know it has happened to others on here as well, it's just wrong. DB Disclaimer: I'm fully aware that the policemen I refer to here are in the minority, I have several good friends In the police and have great respect for the job that the vast majority do very well.

That may be illegally small but the legislation seems to be fairly clear about allowing square plates of that layout, so if that's what you got done for I'd fight it. DB
-
The government legislation website begs to differ: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/schedule/3/made I'd fight that if I were you; it's bollocks. Elsewhere on that site it specifies that none of the three-line styles are allowed on vehicles registered post 1/10/2001, but the double liners are not mentioned. I think you found an over-zealous cop. DB

Grand plans in the works... Been very busy over the summer but hopefully things will move faster now. Obviously I'll put up a thread if/when anything becomes available. DB

Actually had pretty much everything on my car done by Horsham Developments, and I wouldn't assume from the dyno that it actually does have 307bhp, but it tells me it's probably still in pretty good nick in there, as it compares well with others who have had similar mods done. I imagine the tuner has a fair amount to do with the final results, but in the case of the zed there are only three places in the country that are licensed to use Up-rev, and they're all top notch so I wouldn't have thought the difference would be noticable. DB
-
Obviously it depends on how well treated your engine has been over its life, but generally speaking 58k on a VQ35 is nothing. Mine was Up-reved at about 50k with the usual exhaust/plenum spacer combo and the dyno says 307bhp, which doesn't exactly indicate that the engine is on its last legs (touch lots of wood). Go for it, really does make the car a lot better. DB

I survived last winter no probs on RE050A's, that included both wet and dry in very cold temperatures, as well as some around-town snow, so other than high-speed snow (which let's be honest you'd be stupid to try) I've thrown it all at them and as long as you drive to the conditions they seem to do the job fine. If I had a second set of wheels for winter to avoid grit corrosion then I might put winter tyres on them, but it hardly seems worth the hassle. DB

Sunset/Bronze makes so much more sense when you see one properly detailed like that. Nice work and good pics DB

Which? Magazine - Sports Cars - Used Best Buy 350Z
DannyBoy replied to mick43's topic in 350Z General
Yea, not really sure what the CLK is doing there either to be honest; all auto (I know they did make manuals but not easy to find) it weighs even more than the Zed, and unless you get the 55 or 63 it'll be slower than a Zed too. Bit wierd that the Zed tied for fourth with two things that aren't sports cars DB -
unfortunately if you have an '04 Zed, your first to second shift is probably never going to be that slick. Genuine Nissan gearbox oil and Molyslip additive will help, but it's unlikely to completely cure the problem. does the genuine oil and the Molyslip DB

Just when you thought Z3s couldn't get any uglier... Makes you wonder about the human race when you think that someone at Veilside must have looked at the finished product and gone 'yes, that looks good, we'll sell that'. DB

That's their own fault for not reading the wording properly IMHO. Who in all honesty, who does read it and can honestly say they fully understand the ins and outs? Much of it is mumbo jumbo and unless you have a legal background you will be none the wiser quite often. In my line of work, interpreting the small print can be a minefield, often needing Counsel opinion and even then they are certainly known not to commit themselves and conclude it will be down to the Court's interpretation My sister is a Law student who has studied this relating to contract law, and according to her most of the justification for a mis-selling case comes from the fact that the banks were selling a product that was not fit for purpose. It was claimed to be insurance to cover you in the case of inability to cover your payments, but in reality there would be almost no circumstance in which the policy would pay out. It'd be like someone selling a car as a functioning car and then adding in small print that engine and wheels were not included. Another issue is that in many cases the small print itself is totally meaningless when read as a legal document and basically gives the banks far too much wiggle-room to get out of almost anything by not including any binding agreements whatsoever. It seems that most PPI sold by banks themselves (most PPI sold by specialist insurers is actually worth something) was devised as a method for generating extra revenue, the purpose always being to create a useless and expensive product to flog. That is wrong and I think in those cases that refunds are justified. DB
-
I have never borrowed any money in my life (apart from my credit card which doesn't include PPI and isn't used anyway) and I still get texts saying I'm owed £3782.52. If you're pretty sure you've never had PPI, then I'd just ignore it, they're just phishing. DB
-
used to be the case, but now the act of running a car without a cat on (assuming it had one originally) is illegal in itself, so if you were stopped at a VOSA checkpoint (like that wpuld ever happen) they could fine you or whatever. You're still unlikely to ever get caught, but it's a lot riskier than it used to be now that the cat-swapping loophole appears to have been closed. DB

So came out to the zed this morning to find both rear tyres flat with suspicious uniform holes in the sidewalls, obviously I can't drive it to a proper tyre fitter but can anyone give me an idea of whether a mobile tyre fitter would actually do a good job/would be able to handle 18's? The alternative would be getting it trailered to a proper tyre place. Thanks in advance. DB

I can vouch for this stuff: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/meguiars-hyper-wash-cat2.html It's apparently not as effective as some other foams, but it genuinely does leave my wax alone so I really like it. As has been said, snow foam isn't going to leave you with an immaculate car, but it does remove the top layer of crap from the car and softens any caked-on stuff so you can get away with using less pressure in the hand wash stage. You also end up with less dirt rubbed into the wash mitt, which always seems to happen even if you're using two buckets. I would say snow foam helps, but isn't by any means essential to good detailing. DB

Is there a good stereo installer in Surrey?
DannyBoy replied to Arran's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
Each to their own but I wouldn't bother with SCR Knew the guys personally for a few years n they always cut corners and overcharge Had an install done by them a few years ago that never worked properly and they refused to take another look at it despite being good friends with the owner and his son, and then they mashed the driveshafts on my Audi A3 after offering to fit coilovers for me, again denying all blame Car audio direct or Brian car sound would be my 1st choices Fair enough mate, not used them for anything at all major, just a few minor ICE issues as they're literally 3 mins from my house. If you've had repeated bad experiences then that speaks for itself. DB -
