  1. Thanks for that, but after researching I think I might leave the OBD thing and concentrate on the best Nav and best fitting unit possible. I'm thinking Alpine so far unless there are other suggestions How easy should these be to fit?
  2. Looking at replacing my OEM head unit with a nice double DIN nav/multimedia unit. Similar to these http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/double_d ... ml?cat=718 Really don't know which one to get, reviews seem biased and few and far between... All I want is touch screen or mainly touch screen, GOOD FIT AND LOOKS, quality/works well, iPod connectivity, sat nav, and bluetooth. I have a few other questions regarding it too, answers to all of these are littered about the forum and I can never really find exactly what I'm asking for.. -If the aux cable has to be run out of the back, how easy is it to have it coming through and poking into the transmission tunnel compartment? -Can steering wheel controls/OEM bluetooth gubbins be retained with these types of HUs? -What are common problems encountered with aftermarket HUs? Sound quality? Volume? -Is it possible that the OBD reader app for the iphone (seen it in Wasso's car!) can be linked to display on the screen? Pretty interested in this idea..
  3. Reminds me of the soldier who was reported in the Sun the other day for outrunning them in his 350z and getting up to 140mph. Apparently his 'training kicked in'?
  4. Definitely go for it! It will add a a very subtle aggressive look that the rest of your car pulls off so well
  5. ^That. However, do we know that all the cars that were 'underpowered' weren't being run on 95 ron? Or possibly damaged from previously being run on 95 ron? Most of the Zeds now that go through that standard mod list seem to be ending up with just under 300bhp, inline with the 20-30bhp increase expected from the mods + Uprev, that would give them about the bhp they should've had from stock. Anyway, the main ways to go faster in the Zed for less are driver training, tyres, suspension, weight loss, brakes and then NA power gains in that order. So unless you want to drag race, do those things first and learn to enjoy its beautiful, controllable handling and rear wheel fun. That said, all of those power mods and the Uprev tune do make the car drive better. The power is delivered better, and its more urgent. All of those mods do really make the car brilliant together. But by the time you've bought all of them you could probably afford FI. Or for pure effortless power, do what myself and RT did, sell it, buy a Jaaaaggg and have change to spare!
  6. Yesterday in the evening.. silver with a Nismo front and some nice rims Anyone on here?
  7. Right you are Am I thinking of the RS6 that has the V10 then?
  8. I thought the Lambo V10 was practically the same as the ones in big audis and the R8 V10? After all audi own lambo don't they? Can't believe they didn't even get 10 years though!!
  9. Does the switch rattle at all?? When it happened to me it was the switch block that had gone. Managed to finally get the window back up in the pouring rain by taking the door apart (thanks to Keyser's advice!) and shaking the switch block until the contacts touched! I think new switch blocks are around £100. But I don't quite remember. Failing that it might be the motor as I think they wear out fairly often.
  10. OEM, but shiny! And a little video of what it sounds like (might have a few sneaky midpipe alterations!)
  11. to be fair.. the back is better :kicking
  12. I actually think the light is pretty good. Mine is set at 6600, which is right on the brink of the redline. As far as I know it's always been that, but I'm crap at changing gear anyway so I don't really go there too often! (NO ONE SHOULD EVER SAY 'SHIFTING'.. BLOODY AMERICANS)
  13. I never diagnosed a code.. I was too newbie. But I remember when Nissan diagnosed it it came up with Camshaft position sensor. Car would be fine, then all of a sudden, revs go mad and then it would cut out. Left it for a while and it started and drove fine. After a while driving the same thing happened. Nissan spent ££££'s (had only just bought it so NO WAY I was paying!) replacing pretty much every sensor on the car. They diagnosed it as the camshaft position sensor again, repaired it, gave it back to me and I had the problem again. EVENTUALLY, many weeks and many thousands of their pounds later, it was traced to a dodgy flywheel! Their way of explaining it was that the flywheel, once the engine was warm, would start spinning erratically (off centre.. a bit like a hub cap about to fall off) and that caused all the problems, and everything else they replaced was pretty superfluous! Might be worth checking for anyone who has a similar problem!
  14. For me, I really don't like most exterior aftermarket bodykits. I really think they chav up the look of nice cars (even WORSE on normal cars). Very few bodykits blend well enough with the shape of the car. Fart can exhausts. Ridiculous sound systems (WHY?? it's a car not a nightclub! Nobody else wants to hear your Dub-@*!#!) Matt wrap. Halfords LED/Halogen/Neon/other lighting kits. Extreme lowering/camber/rolled arches/stretched tyres. Deep dish wheels. I know quite a lot of people on here have some of those things, and some similar things. No offence intended, but for me they ruin cars!
  15. Driver training is definitely worth it too. When an instructor drives your car 100% quicker round a course than you ever dreamed it could go, you realise that there is one thing you can mod to make a significant performance improvement - THE DRIVER!!
  16. I have this too. Glad to hear it never seems to actually soak anywhere that causes a problem (just the sill) but I don't remember it happening before the last few months. Surely it isn't SUPPOSED to happen from the factory?
  17. Not as bad as the battered old 3 series compact I saw last week with the 'M' from an M sport and the '3' from 3.1.8i bodged next to each other. Wonky, and on the WRONG side of the boot. That car is still ridiculous though. The bodykit doesn't look right somehow (even though a real M5 looks nice). Spoiler just looks like a shelf, and he stuck and M5 badge on that TOO!? Silliness.
  18. Firstly, I agree with Ekona, phrasing of the thread has a lot to do with the response you will get, and the 'Focus ST spanked me on the M1' / 'I desire more straight line speed' comparison is a very good example. HOWEVER, OP actually has posted a fairly legitimate thread. As Rtbiscuit says, it's not illegal road racing, it was a drag race in private. So what's wrong with asking why his car was slower? Maybe OP and his mates often go to their private strip and have drag races, and he wants to know what he can do to edge ahead of his mate's VXR. What's wrong with that? You don't have to like it or be interested. But if you are, then you post. If it's illegal/stupid, then you flame. If you assume it's a joke, so what? So long as what he's posted about is legal etc, who cares if it's true? I personally will give the benefit of the doubt, some people might suspect it's a lie but might humour it anyway. As long as it isn't something that would get him or the community in trouble, I don't see the problem with the thread being here. Now that was SO, to the OP: If you beat an R26, then don't worry so much about the Astra. The astra isn't THAT much more powerful and is a bit heavier than the megane I think, so powers of deduction would tell you that the Astra was probably slightly modified. If it was stock, then because the cars are SO close performance wise, (20-30 bhp really isn't a lot) there are so many other factors that could make a difference. Weight, driver skill, gearchange quality, grip levels on each part of the airstrip, changing at optimum torque/rpm. Even mileage of the cars and lost power etc could make a difference. SO many things. You might think 'but I shouldn't have to mod my Zed to be better than the VXR'. Well, if you race both of the cars, brand spanking new, same petrol, Michael schumachers in each car, on the same surface, then the Zed will be quicker. In normal situations, there is SO much that can make up that ~30bhp. Even if you're fat and he's thin! Don't despair though. Take your Zed on a track day and you will experience how truly rewarding a car it really is. What it beats in a race is irrelevant really. It's how much fun you can have driving it. My Jag would spank my Zed in a drag race, but the Zed is SO much more fun to go for a drive round the country roads in.
  19. I'm no expert.. but maybe if the car isn't as responsive to turn in.. might be your lower compression arm bushes going? When I got mine changed to super pro the front would dart in a lot more keenly and the wheel was much more sensitive as a result. Other than that maybe tyre pressure might affect it? I'm sure the real experts will be along soon but those are my thoughts!
  20. I tend to just use plimsoll type light trainers (such as converse) which i find best. Is there really a massive difference with the Pumas etc in normal cars? My next piece of clothing apparel will definitely be some leather driving gloves for the Jaaaagggg though
  21. Amazing projects at the Zedshed as always!!
  22. I didn't notice a significant difference with mine, although general consensus is that they affect it negatively a little bit. I had my compression arm bushes changed for super pro, and they affected the handling a lot more positively than the spacers did the other way. But at any rate I'd rather go 1% slower round a corner if it means the car looks 100% better! I saw a stock car the other day and I have to say after seeing my spaced one every day I was in shock at how silly it looked! The one problem I do have is that the car seems to pull about on the camber of the road, and tramlines a lot more since the spacers. I also have some vibration at motorway speeds which I'm told can be the spacers if they arent fitted perfectly. Mine are 20 front and 25 back
  23. Haha, thanks! I did look at Mercs but the German interiors just don't do it for me like the Jags! Plus you get to say, 'I drive a Jaaaaaaaagg'. And the value is the precise reason I bought the S type. A third the price of the 350z when I bought it. And apart from the handling and looks, I think it's a better car in nearly every other aspect. Speed, comfort, handling, gadgets, refinement, quality, badge image. That's not to say I don't still love the 350 to bits!
