  1. Yep, very different! Interior + V8 for the price was too much to pass up! Some people will say I should have stretched for the R, but to be honest the standard V8 is enough as it's mainly a cruiser leaving the Zed as the weekend hooning toy. I feel 20 going on 60 but sit in one and you will believe the hype! Pulls like a train too. I think the only downside is that you could very easily get a speeding ticket. It's so lazy and refined in how it picks up speed, and just doesn't feel like you're going quickly until you see the speedo climbing!
  2. So to resurrect this thread... I didn't buy an RX7 in the end (thanks for the advice though!) I bought.... THIS That's 8 cylinders, 4.2 litres, 300bhp, 310lbft, 5 seats, 66,000 miles, 2 owners, immeasurable amounts of class and comfort, lots and lots of gadgets, all for £3800! It's freaking awesome. And is keeping me well entertained whilst I ponder over how to go about fixing the Zed
  3. I'm no mechanic, but sounds like you might be having same problems as me "Oil pressure reads 5 ish on the gauge" I do hope you mean at least 50. As people say, at 60 in 6th it should be 60psi or thereabouts. Low oil pressure can mean there's none in there (like mine after it drank it all!). If your car smells TERRIBLE and acrid, and if you're smoking then I've been informed it's probably as bad as we both fear! = piston rings and rebuild. Mine smokes, but not a great deal. But courtesy of Abbey's little camera into the cylinder I know it IS pretty buggered. Check to see how much oil you're using as I would guess you're burning it like me! Praying for you dude!
  4. Would really like to hear from owners rather than internet hearsay... Thinking of buying one, no real reason other than theyre cheap now and always liked them. I have heard horror stories, how true are they?
  5. Its not unwritten, its part of dressing properly (you actually are allowed to button the bottom at a funeral, but only then). Like if you are wearing a jacket you shouldnt have a top pocket on your short, like that bespoke suits have cuffs that unbutton, like your tie should actually be a recognised knot, you shouldt ever undo your top button when wearing a tie, your shoes and belt should match, you dont wear brown shoes with anything other than a brown suit ........... theres loads. Waltzinblack seems to get it, and Id wager he would have the **** ripped out of him by his colleagues if he got any of it wrong, been there, done that Hahah, you'd be surprised.. a lot of the older people who probably work in higher paid jobs than me that get the train are often dressed worse. So I'm less worried about **** taking I disagree about brown shoes though, as long as you match the belt you can get away with them with a grey or even a blue suit if you're feeling extra trendy. Also the good thing is, the school boy knot works ok with skinny ties because you cant notice them pulling to one side as much! There's definitely a 'too far' line though. I mean there's a couple of boys similar age to me who get the same train and work nearby, always wearing pinstripe suits with waistcoats and a handkerchief in the jacket pocket. Just screams out 'ripped it off the Topman mannequin' and is trying WAY too hard. I think you can only rock the waistcoat and hanky when you're on at least a 7 figure salary... not as a work experience boy!
  6. Grey suits (especially slim fitting ones) are awesome, however.. no man will EVER look as good as Jamie Redknapp does in a grey suit. As long as you can accept that, then you may wear grey suits. I'm a young city worker so careful colour coordination, bolder colours and skinny ties are my thing. But the fit is WAY more important that the colour or anything. Baggy trousers, shiny shirts/suits, shirts without side pleats, fat ties, ties with schoolboy stripes/patterns, shirt and tie same colour (for work at least), shirt cuffs that aren't exposed by 1/4 inch when you sit down etc are all Excessive or bold pinstriping unacceptable unless banker or lawyer. Pretty much all colours are fine though. Except bright red, white, yellow or green. Burgundy and lighter blues look pretty cool if you're a young, trim, half decent looking bloke these days. Although I think my burgundy one is LITTLE bit much for work.
  7. Thanks for all the help guys, it was a really awesome trip. Hopefully get some pics up next week! Sorry for the wait but I'm only getting on here on my netbook at the moment and it refuses to work with my iphone!
  8. Nice pictures! I really like your side skirts and splitter. they make the car look good and a little more aggressive, without going too far. I'd have them myself if I wasnt worried about catching it on speed bumps. Are you lowered at all?
  9. Awesome about the fuel. And I still don't like the idea of using normal unleaded even if I drive gently. I'm paranoid like that. Animals I'm pretty used to. Even though I'm only in Hertfordshire, there's a massive deer population around my village. Caused a lot of people (including my girlfriend ) to have quite bad accidents. But thanks for the heads up I'll make sure I'm on the look out and driving with extra care and attention, especially at night. Thanks again, really excited for this. It will be one of the last hurrahs for the Zed I think.. tempted by a Corvette after the summer is out....
  10. Haha, more the merrier! Sounds pretty good, I'll give them a ring first thing tomorrow. Thank you so much for all your help Ebized and everyone else, really has been invaluable. I'm also gonna call Gleaner tomorrow and check they have Super unleaded in most/all their stations. Please tell me its at least 98 Octane!
  11. Unfortunately the route will be Ebized's here View Larger Map Plus the journey from Sheffield and back. That bit can be done early sat morning and very late sun night, but still needs to be added on! Extending it to ullapool/associated areas would be too much I fear, from what you're all telling me! So I guess I'll need other B&B location suggestions! Nicest as possible - cost not too much of a problem as its only one night.
  12. Not filling me with confidence! haha. I think I will ring Gleaner and find out what stations they supply Super to. Thanks for recommending Ullapool though, I hope it wouldnt be too much of an added detour to Ecized's much more realistic route.
  13. As long as their super is good enough to protect the engine on some spirited driving then its all good. Went on their website and they seem pretty generously dotted around the proposed route. The next question I guess is.. who can advise on a sensible half way point + a really nice b&B to stay in somewhere on that route? Thanks to everyone who is contributing, your help is invaluable and will be rewarded with lots of pics when the trip is done!
  14. If you have a Gayphone or Android phone you can download the Shell app which will tell you all. Yeah I know.. I'm just not sure I trust how often they update it, and especially the availability of Vpower. It only has 3 stars from what I remember too! Local knowledge is the key here! But thanks for the input
  15. Thanks for that Ebized, I will probably adopt that as the route, maybe with a little detour to Loch Ness! So where are the last Shell Vpower garages before I get into the sticks? That's my next problem!
  16. Yep, I got a great quote from them too.. can anyone confirm that National windscreens do a good job? I mean Autoglass at £1200 seems way too expensive, but National Screens at £200 seems WAY too cheap. Too good to be true sorta thing
  17. Enfield Zeds are grumpy most of the time
  18. I see, I've heard about Applecross! What route would you take though? I really want to do that top bit of the A832 too, but I can't work out where to lose any journey time to make up for it!
  19. Fixed. Google maps was being an arse.
  20. Thanks for the comments, especially Vik and Ebized giving me big chunks to leave out! Revised route is below, dropped about 300miles and journey time down to 22 hours, which is much better. (We dont plan to stop THAT much for food and stuff, its definitely a driving weekend). View Larger Map Can't extend the weekend as we definitely have to be in Sheffield for Monday, but can afford to get back into Sheffield at 2am ish if that means we can stop and enjoy the place a bit more on Sunday (Loch Ness maybe?) Any more suggestions of boring/not so pretty bits that can be excluded? Is it worth going further than Ullapool? Thank you!
  21. I was thinking as much, and the plan was really always to cut it down by a couple of hundred miles, unless someone said 'yes it's doable'. So I suppose the most important question to reiterate is, what parts are REALLY worth keeping on that list and what detours can I lop off to gain a couple of hours. The road that runs alongside Loch Awe looked very interesting, but it's a bit of a double back after going north through the national park, so unless that's a particularly stand out bit of scenery then I might get rid of that section and join up with the west side north of Oban... Cheers guys! Any more thoughts?
  22. Basically looking for help with a few major questions I have for a trip around the pretty parts of scotland this weekend. We will be leaving from my good friend's house in Sheffield (I'm travelling up there on from Hertford the friday night and home on the monday), very early on Saturday and hope to be able to do this route over the weekend: View Larger Map I know it's VERY ambitious, but I am prepared for early starts and late ends and lots of driving in between. We will hardly be stopping except for food and pictures, the drive through the scenery is the main goal. Do those of you who have done the routes there before think this is doable over Saturday and Sunday? Are there any bits that aren't actually that scenic and are worth cutting off the detours to shorten the time? (I'm really keen to do the prettiest bits of the west coast and also go along to John O Groats!) Where are the best recommended places to stay for the Saturday night, and where would they fall on the route? Whats the availability of Shell VPower up there? Or in emergencies some other sort of super (but I intend to involve a bit of spirited driving and mine is mapped for Vpower, so really want to know how available it is. I plan to ring Shell too) Thank you very much for any advice, help and criticism. It is VERY much appreciated. I've just done a fantastic Hertford-Wales and back again road trip in one day, so I have a big appetite for this sort of thing!
  23. Heading towards Belmont, I think that was me... my Nan lives in Belmont and was stopping there on my way to (another) trip to the Elan reservoirs! However, at 1pm it still shouldve been dirty after coming all the way from London! Azure has a magical ability to glisten in the sun even when dirty though!
  24. Insurance wont cover it, I didnt have windscreen cover originally (my fault for not checking!) and they are adding to my premium to have it on there, AND the excess on top means it'll be more than I want to pay.

    Windscreen

04 model. New or near new considered.. mine has tiny chips and imperfections all over, not something that would affect MOT so insurance couldnt care less. It's almost like its constantly dirty but cleaning does nothing! Nissan wanted £785 and Autoglass over £1000, ideally looking for quite a bit cheaper than that! Cheers
