  1. I wouldnt be the person to ask, but I dont recognise them on any stock bodied Z I've seen! Perhaps someone could shed some light? I want them though!
  2. Wow looks awesome. I love how you've kept the stock exhaust shape too. And have left the exterior, it looks better plain. How about one of those carbon fibre bits for the middle of the dash around the instruments and pods? I think those look cool. Also, when you get a plenum spacer, do you have to remove the engine cover? Getting a spacer fitted soon, but I like how it says 3.5 V6 on the cover And erm, what are those mudguard bits on the back? they look cool!
  3. Hahaha, well the way they are going with the Turbo it might not be long before there is one! What's the Turbo S at the moment, nearing 600bhp isnt it? But with the Z theres more to it, I've always felt that 350bhp would be exactly the right amount for it, it looks and sounds as if it should be that fast It's more muscular and brutey than a Boxster, sort of annoys me that it doesn't have the power to go with it! And besides I'm fed up of seeing videos of people in a Zed thinking they can win a drag against an M3 and getting dicked on! Going by the logic though, imagine the Mitsubishi 3000 GT!
  4. If I could change one event in history? 350Z standing for 350hp as opposed to the displacement! The amount of my (non-petrolhead) friends that asked that.. and the amount of M3s and 911s that WOULD be inferior!
  5. Yep mine also does it, it seems to vary more when there's more fuel in the tank, but when it gets nearer to dte how I drive seems to affect it less (perhaps to remind you that its low and however you drive you're gonna need to fill up soon anyway?) You can get some big variances though, especially in the computer one. Once I drove my sister's 225 TT from London to Wales, started off saying '280 miles' on the computer as I pulled out of the petrol station before setting off, an hour into a journey on the A40 it had gone up to 400! The 350 needle one definitely changes though, and before when I have started off on the dte light, it eventually creeps off it after driving carefully for a bit. And sometimes the computer one will show '---' 0 miles left, then I take it somewhere and stop, get back in and turn it on and it says 15 miles left! Yours jumping from empty to 1/4 is a big jump though, you dont park on a hill overnight do you?
  6. Welcome! Fellow young owner here - 19! Your insurance is £2000 fully comp? I'd be lucky to get fully comp for less than about £8 or 9k according to comparison sites! Around 6 for TPFT! Then suddenly, I changed my details to if I was 20 and had 2 years NCB, and then it shot down to £4k for TPFT and only about a hundred more for fully comp! Why do they suddenly come into line at 20? Can't wait til my birthday Enjoy your Zed!
  7. Well well well. As I said in the other thread in a much more conversational manner.. it most definitely was a lease car. The 1 former keeper was my brother, he leased it.
  8. BT58CPU? NOOOOO WAYYY! That was my brother's car. His company leased two of them, business partner wrecked the other one. Sorry to hear that you've had such poor luck when you've just got it! And I'm especially sad because that actual car is the one that made me fall in love the Z. At least I can let you in on a bit of it's history though. It was never thrashed, driven most of the time by his girlfriend, the rest of the miles were on the A406 from Woodford to Enfield every day. One thing I will say is CHANGE THE TYRES. Or at least check what tyres they are. Right at the end of the lease contract the tyres were pretty worn, and the lease company demanded fresh ones to be put on or they would charge, so because he was giving it back he bought the cheapest part worn crap money can buy (£150 for all 4!!), if the dealer you bought it from hasn't changed them, then get them off and put some proper rubber on there! Just a heads up. I really hope it all works out alright mate, and you can enjoy it as much as it deserves to be enjoyed! Like I said, my bro never drove it properly it is probably longing for a good old thrash!
  9. Well I did wonder that.. after I posting I realised no it wouldnt be that easy. So to get the snazzy awesome headlights you need to buy the whole unit? I suppose if I could find them for £700 I would be happy
  10. ahh it's just me being naive and cheap! I mean I'm sure they must be incredibly difficult to produce... but still.. hundreds of pounds for a few fancy light bulbs. haha EDIT @Tarmac, you can do that? just get the bulb changed to a bi-xenon one? Are they still a massive improvement? My older brother had an 08 Zed and his lights were incredibly good, mine on my 04 are mediocre.. even on full beam they aren't hugely better than my little Saxo!
  11. another thread about this, please dont kill me! Just a quick few things, I PROMISE I have been searching for the answers... just wanted to check. Firstly, are the 2006 model headlights and the HR motor model headlights the same? I've read stories about pre-06 headlights being slightly pants for some people, mine come under that bracket unfortunately! so; Secondly, is it a simple swap to put facelift headlights onto an 04 car? I read through searching that they require a little modification, clipping a wire or something? Could this be attempted by anyone, or am I best leaving a mechanic to it? In the handbook there are a lot of warnings about going near the headlights because of high voltages and stuff? Thirdly and finally, where on Earth can you get a set of facelift lights from? I've read that not only are they hard to get, but they can cost into the THOUSANDS for a pair? Even £500 for a pair of lights seems steep to me! Cheers for any help.
  12. Makes me worried that the Z is becoming common Either way, was travelling eastbound the A406/North Circ on Friday 13th between 8-9am. Around Ilford junction was overtaken by an almost identical to mine Azure Coupe, guy was in a bit of a hurry, didn't even wave to me! Also before that saw a white 370z convertible crawling in the traffic queueing to turn off at Woodford I think it was. One male driver. On the way back around 2pm, I was sitting in traffic approaching the Redbridge flyover roadworks, was flashed by a silver bodykitted (looked ALMOST like veilside? I dont know the bodykits) as he passed me in the coned off lane on our side of the carriageway. Anybody on here?
  13. I know who this is, my brother's mate haha. It's a black one with aftermarket alloys, right? He has it supercharged but I don't think he got it done/mapped properly he's always complaining it doesn't seem to do much! Guy used to have two Zs, and he has a Hummer H2 as well. Told me he's thinking of selling them both and getting a GTR! Whereabouts are you based buddy, I'm from Enfield so always frequenting that roundabout for different reasons. If you see a 54 plate Azure ending in XHR pootling about that'll be me
  14. Sorry for the slight necropost, but I must say you are very lucky! ALSO.. you see that Sagaris you posted pics of? In the advert it says 'Armourfend in vulnerable areas'. Well.. guess who did that on their work experience a couple years ago... yours truly At least I'm pretty sure it is, according to the guy at the dealership it was at then, there are only a couple of Sagaris in that actual colour, and we were working on one of them. I believe he told us it was something like £3000 for a pot of that paint, and it took 3 and a half pots to paint the car. And we were working on protecting that paintwork Small world eh?
  15. Great vid, thanks for sharing! Love 911 GT3s.. they sound great and look awesome. Made me laugh the bit where he bumped around a corner and smacked the windscreen wipers on around 3min. Reminds me of learner days haha. The one in the white car was being a complete tool though. No lap time is worth getting within 10 feet of the car in front of you just to bully them out of the way. Surely getting that close to someone could just scare them into making a mistake. I absolutely hate tailgaters on normal roads (although.. when you have a Z you can usually leave them feeling a bit stupid!), but on a track it it is surely just the height of stupidity. Still.. awesome driving apart from that.
  16. Awesome. Sorry.. that was a bit lazy of me, I could've just googled the speed rating couldn't I really... Now I can go out and buy them cheers!
  17. Thanks so much for all this help fellas... I can't commend your patience enough considering how many of these threads there are which are 99% similar! I'm definitely going for the RE050As. I hope I don't have any trouble finding them in stock when I come to buying! I checked my existing tyres, they are 225/45/R18 on the front, and 245/45/R18 on the back, are these the best measurements to avoid any TCS/speedometer/whatever issues on the 18 inch Rays? Also... I've seen some different 'speed-rated' RE050As on that Tyreexpress website. My tyres appear to say W on them. Is that the best/correct 'speed rating' for tyres on the Zed? Thanks once again for all your help dealing with repetitive newbie questions such as mine. It is greatly, greatly appreciated!
  18. Running the Rays, so 18s That's the way I see it too.. I mean I can quite easily get £500 odd, which means I only need an extra £150 ish to afford the RE050As? I read that a set of PS2s were about £800 fitted.. which is too far above the £500 budget. So if the RE050As are better, I can just about afford them, so I'd rather stretch a little and have better... but then if the Falkens are not noticeably worse, then as long as they are a lot better than the RE040s then I would be happy having second best for a hundred quid less or so.
  19. Thanks for all that! Sorted out all the confusion with the run-flats and the codes and everything! I have been thinking about the Falken 452s.. mainly because I can't seem to find places with the RE050As in stock for the fronts and the rears. How do the Falken 452s compare to the RE050As for NORMAL ROAD USE? Like I said, occasionally the car gets thrashed, but I'm not looking for racing tyres! If the Falkens are just as good for normal driving and don't really wear anymore quickly, then I'll probably look into them if they are cheaper than the Bridgestones...
  20. Thanks so much for the quick replies guys answering my questions infinitely more concisely than the way in which I asked them!... looked on that Camskill site, they don't appear to have the RE050s in stock? Are they hard to get hold of? And the only other question that remains is the issue of RE050/RE050A...
  21. My tyres are down to around 3mm on the front and 4mm on the back. RE040s as it's all stock Planning to change them all in a couple of months-ish they should all just about be gone by then, and I'll be driving carefully up until I get them replaced! I mainly want to replace them because they are RE040s and they generally get pants reviews from all of you! So.. from what I've gained from all the threads I've read on this: Is it all good just to swap out all of my RE040s (on a 54 plate Z) to RE050s? I know people will probably tell me there are better tyres, but I don't want to spend TOO too much, and I won't be doing track days (just normal driving with the occasional B-road blast), so from all the reviews I have read on here, the RE050s look like the best bet. Few questions I would be grateful if anyone could answer! 1)So yeah, is it fine just to make a straight swap? The TCS won't go nuts at me or anything like that? Common sense tells me that it wouldn't, but my motoring mechanical knowledge is extremely limited so I thought I'd still ask! 2)Also, the tyre pressures listed on the fuel cap... would these be the same if I fitted RE050s? If not, how should I adjust them? I would assume that the tyre pressure on the fuel cap are for the RE040s seeing as these are the tyres fitted stock to my model. Again, common sense tells me that because these are both tyres used for Zs they wouldn't change the pressures... 3)Third question... what is the difference between RE050 and RE050A? I heard one of them was run-flat, and that run-flat is bad for the Z? Anyone clarify this? 4)Fourth and finally.. where should I get it done? Main dealership? Kwik Fit? Or any other reputable tyre fitters around the North London area that you can recommend? Will they have any trouble getting the tyres? (read a few stories of people only getting 3 in stock or something :S ) Sorry for the essay, thanks for any help - I'm learning things slowly so bear with me guys!
  22. 19 1 years no claims no claims/points licence held since oct 2009 living in north london <<<< that's the biggy right there I think. Anyone want to guess? Before my price owns this thread? (albeit in a bad way, haha)
  23. Well, it went back to Nissan, and turns out it was covered under warranty anyway, so there were no headaches trying to get them to pay for it. It was 'ready' today, so I purchased my travelcard and spent my morning sitting on freezing train platforms and changing tubes to get to Mill Hill. Got there and was so happy to have my car back, drove it home and all was well. Took it down the A10 with the idea of taking it to Mr Bubbles What happens? Engine juddering. Crankshaft sensor. The thing they had supposedly replaced and fixed had become problematic again. When a mechanic came out he told me there were 4 sensors, and that perhaps 2 were faulty in the first place, Nissan replaced one that showed up (it's such an annoying, intermittent fault) and left another one in that hadn't come up as faulty. It's going back there tomorrow, but has anyone else had a persistent crankshaft sensor problem? Like I said, supposedly they replaced the faulty one - anything else that could be causing it? Cheers for all the help. I wish my Z would stay alive long enough for me to enjoy it!
  24. Hi all, I did a search for this, but couldn't find anything that was on the problem I've just had. Car is a 54 plate UK spec bought from WLMG Mill Hill about a month ago. I don't know whether it would have had any effect, but they MOTd before selling, and it was serviced about 4k ago. Basically, it's been fine, a few rough noises here and there but I was led to believe that this is expected with the Z! However, the other day I was driving around town, stopped on a steep hill to answer the phone. When pulling away, the revs kept jumping wildly and the car was jerking forwards. I originally just dismissed it as a possible almost stalling of the car and it went a bit extra herp derp because of the hill, and drove on. Got to the top of the hill, where it was level, and pulled away onto a main road. The revs were jumping and the car was jerking again. I pulled over and noticed the engine management light on. Turned ignition off and on again, and the car coughed and spluttered a bit and then concked out. Being a young driver, and not a member of any breakdown service, I waited in the car frantcially ringing people worried that I'd destroyed my car! However, after about 15 mins I realised I was annoying the people driving down the main road by being broken down and in the way, and noticed a side road about 200 yards ahead. I turned the engine on and pulled away and into the side road with no problems, but the engine management light still on. Recovery man met me at the car the next day (I wasn't far from home but didn't want to risk driving it too much) and we diagnosed the problem as the crankshaft position sensor. He told me it could've been the bad weather made it dirty, and that clearing the error could make it fine again, or that I could need the crankshaft cleaned or replaced. Anyhow, with the light gone, the car was fine and I drove it home with no issues. I'm considering sending it in to Nissan to make sure there are no problems. Has anyone had this problem before? Expensive? Would it usually be covered under a warranty? I'll check in my warranty booklet too... Also, if it's likely to be a small job, would it be better to just send it to my independent little garage round the corner to have a look at? Sorry for the long post about what's probably nothing! Thanks for your help
  25. Hey guys, name's Evan, 19, from Enfield in North London if any of you know it It's a long shot, but some of you might recognise my username from Zeroin airsoft forums. Anyway just though I'd say hello, you'll probably catch me asking a lot of questions and necroposting a few old tech threads (sorry!) as I'm no mechanic and I'm a very, very anxious car owner! The slightest little niggles get me worried! However, trawling through this site before I joined has reassured me about a lot of the noises and things I hear on my car. Absolutely love the 350Z, my brother used to have a 2.5 boxster a few years ago, and riding in that was what first sparked an interest in cars. He's now got a 313 Z which was the car that really made me fall in love with the big Nissans. Unfortunately a new one was a bit out of my price range, but my one is a beautiful Azure blue 54 plate Previous car was a saxo (perhaps that's what made me nervous about how reliable cars are!), and I think I'm probably the only person who's owned a VTR saxo and a Jap sports car who DOESN'T like modifying cars! Anyway, that's me, hello to all of you!
