  1. He'd have been better off trading it in under the scrappage scheme.... then selling the M3
  2. The best way of detecting a dodgy url or email address is to look at the domain - this is the bit immediately after the "@" in email addresses and the bit immediately before the ".com", ".co.uk", bit (the top level domain for those in the know ) The basic rule is that the domain is the one bit that indicates where the url goes or where the email has come from. Here are a few that are ok: ...@paypal.com ...@[something].paypal.com Obviously the following are not: ...@paypal123.com ...@1paypal.com ...@pay-pal.com Essentially, as long as the last bit is what you would expect, then this should generally be ok. However, there are a couple of things worth watching for. The following are not OK and should be treated with extreme caution: ...@[something]-paypal.com ...@[something]_paypal.com etc. Unless it's .paypal.com, you're likely to be looking at a phony email One other thing to watch for is that it is techincally possible to "pretend" your email address has come from somewhere it hasn't. In this circumstance, the email might appear to ligitimately come from paypal or wherever, but if you look in the message header (which you might need to turn on in your email client or webmail settings), then you'll see that the real address is nothing like that in the "from" bit. Luckily people like gmail and hotmail watch for this and flag this as extremely dangerous so there's less chance for you to go wrong If you are still unsure, don't click any links. If you need to log into check something, then type the address you would usually use yourself (as Chris says ). Hopefully this helps, but the best way of avoiding trouble is to suspect everything and use your judgement
  3. I'll be with Admiral come Thursday as that's when my ultra expensive Direct Line policy ends. Didn't have any trouble with them in the slightest. Sucks you didn't find them as easy to deal with Then again, insuring a 350z if you're only 20 will mean it will most likely be either a right faff, expensive, or both. Hope you get it sorted though I'll be looking at Chris Knott as well next year - by the time i had got to admiral, I had already gotten quotes off about 20 different companies and just couldn't be bothered with it any more!
  4. the ones you've quoted there are the one's i'm sticking with 1. Vettel 2. Alonso 3. Hamilton 4. Schumacher 5. Massa 6. Button
  5. Nice Z! i love them in red - don't see many either which makes it even better!
  6. as annoying as "ibtl" is, it's no where near as bad as "first!"
  7. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=32273&start=30 This is hillarious read it. hah yeah! worth the ban imo
  8. I'd be interested to hear how you get on. Mine's under warranty at the moment so if it needs work doing, I'm not too worried about having it done
  9. I've been watching my fuel gauge (needle one, not the dte) and there's a couple of things I'm not sure are quite right. The first is that if i absolutely brim the tank, it doesn't seem to hit the full mark - just somewhere between 4/4 and 3/4. This in itself is not a problem, but I have also noticed that between this point and the 1/4 mark, the tank only appears to take around 38 litres of fuel.... The DTE indicator suggested I had about 85 miles left on 1/4 of a tank which seems quite a lot. Is the fuel needle really misleading or does it sound like somethings up with mine?
  10. That's assuming that the BBC didn't set the whole thing up, which given how contrived Top Gear has become recently, wouldn't surprise me... What's more likely is that a group of privacy-worried spoil sports have questioned why he didn't get blured out in the first place as Street View supposedly blurs faces and number plates automatically...
  11. Don't know if anyone else has seen the rumors, but apparently it's a done deal! If true, they'll run as Campos Meta this year and then as a full VW works team in 2011. It sounds crazy, but considering VW are entering F1 as an engine supplier next year and all the other crazy F1 rumors that have turned out to be true, I really hope this is true as well!
  12. I might be in cambridgeshire that weekend. If I am, I may well pop down
  13. Give it to Smudge. If for whatever reason it doesn't happen, give me a shout
  14. Might take 2nd dibs if smudge isn't interested depending on price and R800NER gets back to me about his or not
  15. Bouncing off spoiler will right mine 9 out of 10 times
  16. Depending on price (I bought the Z last friday so my bank account has taken quite a hammering!), yeah I'll take first dibs! PM me with what you'd want price wise
  17. The Trophy has been amazing, however, mine currently looks like this as I'm giving it a winter tear down ready - if only servicing the 350z was this cheap and easy! I can't stress how much this thing has been battered in the last year - 15 foot jumps, flying up and over a skateboard half pipe and many collisions with my mate's RC's. As Stew says, you do stupid stuff with them and you will need to spend some cash on the parts (which is another reason for buying local), but once you know what bits you need, they're typically very easy to come by online. My parts bill for last year was probably around £50-£80 in total - would have been less if i hadn't messed up the pull start
  18. you should! i'm waiting for the weather to improve before i take mine out for a run for the first time this year. i've got my eye on the new skate park they're building here in norwich... once the skaters inevitably get bored of it, I'll be straight down there on the ramps
  19. probably not a bad idea! i couldn't bring myself to ever build a nitro engine from scratch... the thought of something i put together running at 30,000-40,000 rpm+ is pretty terrifying! true indeed. i think it would be more fun to machine the car first and then go from there. i already have a beginners one gathering dust i can rob parts from since its unexpected meeting with a kerb You should see the state of mine! It's still got a bodge fix on the front-right suspension holder from the time it collided into a football post. The underside of my chasis is also messed up from the time we took them wall riding in the hoppers of a a disused tarmac quarry (totally worth it!)
  20. don't think so. the only way i know of getting a 296 on the lower tax band is with the GT4. I could be wrong though...
  21. probably not a bad idea! i couldn't bring myself to ever build a nitro engine from scratch... the thought of something i put together running at 30,000-40,000 rpm+ is pretty terrifying!
  22. If it helps, i sold my 17 month old 16GB 3G on ebay for £280 which is higher than I thought I would get so you should get a pretty good price for yours. After having the original iPhone, I was really disappointed with the 3G and the 3GS wasn't different enough to justify the upgrade so now have an HTC HD2 which I love
  23. If you stumble on another bluetooth adapter you want to get rid of, let me know
  24. I got seriously into Nitro RC last year (bought an HPI Trophy 3.5 and love it!) If it's your first dabble into Nitro RC'ing, I would advice buying from your local shop as advice comes free from them and they will usually get your engine broken in for you (which can be tricky if you've not done it before). Go for a 1/8th buggy or 1/10th truggy as these will take more abuse without falling to pieces and I would also avoid the temptation of buying second hand. A second hand car is realistically only worth the cost of the radio gear as you don't know how well the engine has been maintained (they require quite a bit of care and wont do much more than 3 gallons without a new piston and liner). Having said that, they're cheap as hell to fix and that's half the fun right there If you're looking to ease yourself in, get an RTR (ready to race) kit, which you'll just need to get batteries and a basic nitro starter kit for. If you fancy a bit more assembly, then you could look for a 90% RTR which you'll have to sort out radio gear for as well. I would avoid buying a completely unassembled kit as your first car - don't worry though, you'll be taking the thing appart more than enough times once you start ragging it arround! If you need advice, PM me and i'll happily help you out
