  1. It does look good but that is not Rothers' car ... it's just a picture of a car with a roof spoiler that Rothers posted ... Rothers' car has a veilside spoiler Hopefully he'll come along in a minute and confirm but I think he took his Veilside spoiler off (and sold it on here, too, iirc) +1 on the comments on the look of the car - I think it's Rothers car and the depth of shine on it has to be seen to be believed
  2. + another 1 Used them twice now, prompt & efficient both times (though not on the Zed - both times on the Volvo)
  3. For pure driving fun I'd go Caterham every time - I nearly bought one before getting the Z and only passed on it as it wasn't practical for normal / every day driving Quick search reveals cars like this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4164395.htm I'm tempted just looking at the adverts . . . . . oooh!
  4. I bought Neilp's old one and I thought he was very reasonable! So, I have JDM front number plate holder if you're interested - see below - call it £25 inc postage
  5. Can you modify the vote options to include "Carbon Fibre" - so much better than just 'black' Cheers
  6. Saw this at the "Afternoon Tea at Nissan HQ" and spoke with Mario Franchetti on 12th May. I know it clashed with one of the Japfest meets so many people had 'prior engagements' - but it was an interesting afternoon
  7. Where did you get the dipstick cover? I was obviously pipped in the sale by Gudzy - where did you get it & are they still available?
  8. Can we change the poll to allow multiple voting? Laptop is 1440 x 900 Old desktop at work is 1024x768
  9. . For Info - JDM Rear plate is 13" x 7" I had mine made up like this and have had no trouble from Mr Plod You'll have to go to Show Plate makers to get it done (just Google "Show Plates") as your local motor factor won't do it - but get it done online and they'll do pretty well anthing As it happens the letter sizes in this are exactly the same height as on a UK front number plate so the letter sizes are 'legal' it's just the spacing which isn't I actually carry a set of completely legal plates in the boot, in case I get stopped, but I've never been stopped (and I know for cetain I've been clocked by 2 NPR cameras)
  10. I have relapsing remitting Zeditis. . . . I think I have it cured . . . for a while . . . then I get a relapse attack, and I buy some things for her - Then the bank / credit cards constrain me or I admit myself to the Betty Ford Clinic, until they release me, but then the bank recovers a bit, and the demons come back into my head someone posts some nice pictures of something they've done I get a nice weekend off I look at my girl and I think "I'll just . . . ." And then I relapse into another attack. Ah well.
  11. +1 Mine are about 15mm lowered - when Abbey did it they said that they could drop it 15mm using the same camber arms, dropping it more than that (and they said they could drop her 30mm without any problems) you need different camber arms to set the wheel camber correct, but essentially you can drop it as much or as little as you want. Just in passing - even dropping her only 15mm I run into bottoming issues as the UK roads are so poor. (and in NI and Scotland even more so!) So - if you're going to lower her much, it'll be great on track but be warned! Speed bumps get to be a real pain in the A$$ - literally as well as figuratively
  12. I didn't notice this until your post - Many Thanks. I'll revert to your plan and cut the oem pipe inside the brake reservoir area and join in to this, based on the logic that they wouldn't put the one way valve in unless it was performing some necessary function. . . . . another job for this coming weeknd! Thanks again
  13. A Quiet Weekend Last weekend the gf went to one of her old friends who has new puppies . . . . . and left me at home so I had a nice quiet weekend all to myself. So, this meant I could spend time playing with the Zed, but as it was raining I took the opportunity to replace the hose from the plenum to the servo. When I bought " . .a complete set" of Samco hoses, it always bugged me that they didn't send one for here - I guess because it's reinforced for the pressure, but this black hose looked out of place amongst all the other ones. (You'll see why I said this is only for people who have the acute form of Zeditis - the fact that a black hose in the engine bay bugged me shows how badly I have the disease. . . ) Anyway - picture of before with arrow to said hose: Because it's reinforced, I decided I had to make an aluminium tube the right shape and then put the new Silicone Hose over that. I had bought the silicone hose from Race-Spec Performance on eBay for £4.89 - the tube came from B&Q and after that all I needed was the Tube Former and tube cutters (in the shed with the Central Heating stuff) and a plot of the shape needed . . . all staightforward enough. Then carefully (with plenty of grease) you twist and push the aluminium tube through the silicone, cut to length, and Hey! Presto! Ready to refit. Care when putting it back through the grommet and then - replace the Carbon Fibre cover to the finished result. Now, that was a very nice weekend, No shopping, No hassle, a nice little job done on the Zed and a few beers afterwards!
  14. I had this issue - more after sitting in queues than spirited driving, all fixed by Abbey when they fire wrapped the lines and changed the fluid to high temp stuff, no trouble since then
  15. Caterham also offer hire cars - closest for you is http://www.sevenhire.co.uk
  16. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" - think how much you'll enjoy her when you return to her loving bosom after your time in the arms of another
  17. This was not meant to denigrate anyone - see my post "Bowmore Single Malt and the Z" - viewtopic.php?f=9&t=50386 where I love driving in Scotland! I just think . . . ummm . . . OK, when you hit the bottom, it's a good idea to stop digging. Lets just say I really enjoy both Scotland and Ireland. (Please no replies about England - though you'll have a hard time convincing me the M6 / M25 / M62 / all of the above are not designed and managed by cretinous morons. The only time you get any real joy of motoring around most of England is between 1am and 5am when the roads aren't choked by so many idiots) (Sorry about the rant)
  18. Spent the bank holiday weekend in Ireland. The Zed performed faultlessly, and the roads and traffic levels are like maybe 25 years ago – the joys of the open road! It’s sort of like Scotland, but probably better. We drove Dublin – Bangor – Belfast, round the North Antrim coast road, to Giants Causeway and Bushmills (!) and then round to Donegal and back to Dublin. 907.4 miles at 26.5 mpg overall. Some of this was on 95 octane and most of it was fairly non-spirited driving – I was enjoying the scenery too much to ‘press-on’ in the driving, especially after a couple of heavy bounces. (I normally keep the springing fairly soft when touring with the girlfriend, BUT . . . .) A couple of points to note, though:- 1) Put your coilovers on HARD. The roads are open, and they call you to give your girl a few beans and let her relish the driving! However, although there may not be that many potholes, they are NOT smooth, and after 3 nasty bottoming experiences – wound the BC Racing coilovers up to 20 rears 24 fronts to try and stop hitting the floor! (One time, overtaking at about 70 on a B road, dead straight for about 3 miles, but I was coming down from a lift / bump and hit a catseye with such a crash, it brought tears to my eyes) Here’s what happened to my Y pipe flexible – now suitably bodged up with Gun Gum and a small tin (removed the spam) and 2 jubilee clips. I’m quite pleased with the repair, but will have to get a new Y pipe in the not-very-distant future. (Apologies for the phone camera picture) 2) You can only get 98RON in the area around Belfast – and it’s not available in the South AT ALL. Believe me, I looked, and asked – over near Donegal found several garages with a pump dedicated to Red Diesel – but they don’t do 98 RON ! Of course, any business needs to cater for what it’s customers want – and in Southern Ireland, it’s Red diesel, not 98 petrol! Overall – I think Ireland is a hidden treasure. The people are great, the countryside is beautiful, and the roads are an absolute joy, with minimal traffic and courteous fellow motorists. Don’t tell anybody about it, or they’ll all want to go. I will definitely be going again.
  19. I was with Adrian Flux last year, but this year they hiked the price quite a bit and I moved to Sky, saved about £140 Sky is a trader on here and they give discount for forum members - send them a PM and see what you get. (They are also tolerant of mods so Upreved cars with BC racing coilovers etc are no issue for them)
  20. ermm.....its summer ????? Which means they'll be cheap, hehe. Got Nankang SV-2 winter rubber on my spare set of Rays. No complaints running them last winter at all. Got Nankang SV-2 on my spare set of JDM 17" - very good in snow & ice, acceptable in rain, not ideal in the dry - but very good for the money especially as they were bought specifically as winter / snow tyres You may want to change them back to your summer tyres if you get a spell of good weather in the winter months as I missed my Goodyear Eagle performance on fine days in November - and I changed back to the Eagles in March and then we had snow and I nearly got stuck in it because I hadn't changed back to the SV2s - which would have eaten the 1" fall with no worries at all.
  21. Not going to be much help tracking the fault I'm afraid - but when mine did this about 2 years ago I had it checked over by the local garage and they said thermostat OK etc, it was the fans which weren't working. Trying to buy fans from a breaker in a limited time proved unsuccessful, and I ended up paying £600 for the unit (2 fans mounted on the whole section from behind the radiator,) plus fitting - all at Nissan Stealers rates. I had to pay it as I needed the car and didn't have the time to wait searcing all round for a second user unit - I hope you have better luck than I. If not - prepare yourself for an unpleasant attack on the finances
  22. May not be for you - but my gf and I went on a Murder Mystery weekend in Stratford on Avon http://www.itsmurder.co.uk/ I was sceptical at first but actually thoroughly enjoyed it Alternatively - my sons and I went on a "Go Ape" expedition - thoroughly enjoyed that too (You climb trees and follow a route about 30 feet up in the trees, perform zip wire runs and other stuff) Also had a great day out at Diggerland - there's several of those around
  23. I heard that adding DiLithium Crystals to the normal 98RON meant you could achieve Warp 9. Zmanalex has the other parts needed for this, I think
  24. Hi Richard and Good garage - Lockwood & Greenwood in Ashton-under-Lyne Tell Dave Greenwood you're a member of the club and you get discount rates Where are you in Manchester - and what colour - I'll keep my eyes open for you (I'm in Hyde) If you're swapping the pads - search on here for varoius options but I'd suggest Ferodo DS2500 Cheers, Ian
  25. Extract from the manual - and link from when I was searching to do mine (linky is below the manual extract): It's not too bad, but you have to clamp the shaft pretty tight and the knob itself is held on with threadlock and so you have to grip that pretty tight too - see leonk's suggestion or use a couple of sets of molegrips (Vise grip) viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5297&hilit=Gear+Knob
