  1. I've been fitting the new style one today and it works fine. I even tried the relay about 100 times to ensure it's not carboning up. Did a bit of experimenting with the various switch positions etc and found that you can lock the door when driving and the mirrors still stay out....which is nice for driving! My next step is to bulk buy the bits, which I'm just doing, but would like to see if the install works the same on a pre 06 facelift car before I release it with instructions , as I think the wiring may be different colors. That said if anyone wants to come to Chesterfield and have it fitted, feel free and let me know. Cookie
  2. Well the one in the picture is going on my car tomorrow and is getting tested to destruction. DC current can char the contacts on a relay, so want to see how it looks after many operations before it's released to you guys. It's also going to have a slightly thicker wire if possible. If you're worried about installation, I can do it for you if you're close or maybe do it at a meet. If not I'll do some detailed instructions with uber pictures
  3. Planning on maybe putting it in a box to keep it safe, but I've done the prototype tonight and has a few improvements over the previous design. It's smaller overall, has a lot less wires and the micro switch is fit for the job, not some heath robinson bit of copper wire glued on. Just got to do some testing to make sure its fit for use and then should be able to start making them late this week. It's most likely going to be about £25 though, as I've used stronger relays which should withstand vibration and the rigors of a DC current smashing it in all the time.
  4. Scrap what I said about locking the door, you can have this so the mirrors unfold when the ignition is on then fold away when you turn it off. You can then do what ever you like with the locks. This requires the relay to be wired differently though, so is one or the other (they either operate on ignition or key fob lock)
  5. The passenger door could be locked, but the driver one would have to remain open whilst driving.
  6. Just built and tried the one in the mentioned guide and it works really well. The only problem is if you want to drive your car with the doors locked, as you'd have your mirrors tucked in. For me the benefits outweigh the loss and it's very simple to do. The wire colours of my loom are different (06 Zed) to the guide though, so I will provide a step by step instruction too. Ordered the parts to make a smaller test unit and should have it done by the end of next week. If all goes well, full tilt construction by the week after.
  7. Oh and although I mentioned a PCB, it's actually strip board as I don't have access to board printing kit. Just so you know, but I have a pic of the finished thing soon. Like this, but with two relays and a fuse on it: Still neater and smaller though.

  9. Well I think there's enough interest to break out the breadboard, so will order some bits this week. I'm not in work at the mo so will be able to do them as soon as the bits come and the weather improves so I can test it on my car first! Probably 1-2 weeks. This will still be a micro switch on the door unless I get a brain wave when looking at it. Might look into the auto mirror dip in reverse, but will probably use a micro switch too and it will be a separate project. I'm not sure though yet, one thing at a time!

  11. Probably about £20, Which is less than the sum of the parts from Maplin. It's just a big outlay to get the parts bulk.
  12. There's already a thread about this under the guide, but as many people have stated, it's not the easiest thing for an electronics novice. http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=41330&start=0 If I was to sort the trader fee, who would be interested in a pre made kit, not using all the clips, large relays and wires in the above guide, but a nice, small printed circuit board with a few wires coming off to connect to the loom. If I can get enough interest, I can bulk order which would bring the price down and could probably even fit it if you're close enough. It obviously won't have these components on it, but would look a little like this: This will need a bit of prototyping to get it to fit on a tiny unit, but should be easily done. So who would be interested?
  13. Mine does it really bad, but I just take out the disk I want to listen to. Hold it in front of the heater vent for 30 secs on hot, then put it back in. Find it lasts a few days. Ball ache, but costs nothing. I'd also do the bose hack and just listen to an MP3 player.
  14. What you plump for? Mines on hold as redundancy looms for me...
  15. Gona order my bits and have a go, time will tell....

    Bored!

I'm Barlborough, so only about 10 min from you anyway. Linky with details http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=45850 Good set of colours there, just a black and gun metal to have a real good spread! (waiting for all the odd colour Z owners to moan)
  17. Car - £300 Tax - £125 Ins - £300 Diet of Avtur/veg oil - £FREE Even if you had to pay for diesel, £45 gets me 650 miles. It wouldn't take long to recoup the initial cost of buying it all and you could sell the car for pretty much what you bought it for. I'm selling mine for more some day.

There seems to be quite a collective in the West Mids. Shame it's that bit too far. I was thinking maybe a trip to Clumber Park? There's a few nice places to park, looks good and I could take my SLR/tripod and get some good pics of the Z toys. Any one fancy it?
  19. Piece of wee! Like said, jacking it up and the under tray are the biggest ball ache! It's only 2 nuts per belt, slacken the big one in the middle of the idler, turn the little one below to introduce slack to the belt. Reverse to fit.
  20. Shed!!!! Not having to care about it is awesome

Anyone in the Chesterfield/Sheffield fancy some Z playing? I'm off work for ages and I'm already bored!
  23. The thinking on new bike engines, which are very highly tuned, is either: Thrash the tits off it from the off and you may get more power out out it, but it won't last or Run it in gently for about 1000 miles and it should last for years, with a gnats less power. Don't be worried to take it to the red every now and then though, should stop any flat spots developing in the engine as can happen if you just leave it at a certain rpm for the entire time (I was limited to 6000 rpm which is 60mph...Lame!)
