  1. Hi all, To cut a long story short, my passenger seat switch is knackered with the seat fully forward. I've ordered a new one but it may not arrive in time for my buyer to collect the car. He's ok with this so long as I send the switch when it comes in and get the seat back to a reasonable position. I've called three Nissan dealers to see if they will bypass the switch for me but they all said it cant be done. I found a guide which essentially says unplug the motor, apply neutral to one side, +12V to the other and hey presto - If the seat goes the wrong way, reverse the polarity. Has anyone tried this? Problem is it relies on getting a +12V supply from somewhere - probably the cigarette lighter. I was planning to access the connector under the seat which has four terminals (Neutral, +12, Back, Forward) and simply short out the +12 and back connectors. Is there a control unit / relay for the seats which could be damaged or would the worst I can do be to blow the fuse? Logic says that it's just a rocker switch so shorting it out should be no different to flicking the switch, but don't want to risk anything a couple of days before selling the car. Thanks, Mike
  2. Thanks Adam. I saw those on eBay but decided in the end to get a new one shipped from the US. Lee does have some in stock too but I kind of promised the new owner that I'd be getting Nissan to fit a new one so hopefully a new switch will keep them happy, even if I've fitted it myself. It's easier to do than the drivers side as it just pulls out so no need to unbolt the seat base, it's just a bit of a faff getting the connector through the base. Sadly I'll be getting something far more boring to suit my shrinking wallet and growing family. Thinking 5 series or A6 size. At least the 5 series is rear wheel drive even if it is a little dull compared to the zed.
  3. I hope so. Cougarstore can't get one and Alex doesn't seem to have one lying around. There is one on ebay but it's in the US so looks like I'll be paying a small fortune to UPS it over. It's the second time Nissan's UK spares stock has let me down. Got to say that when the car is gone I wont be sad to see the end of the dealership!

  5. Hi All, Can anyone recommend any electrical parts suppliers? I've only really ever gone through Nissan. Annoyingly, 24 hours before someone came to look at my 350Z the passenger seat switch which has been intermittent for a while decided to completely fuse itself. I've now sold the car and taken the deposit on the basis that I get it replaced. The part number is 87016-CD011 but Nissan (WLMG) are quoting 3-4 weeks as it's on back order from Japan!! Not Ideal!! The guy is planning on collecting the car on the 25th so I thought I had loads of time.. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  6. Thanks Vik54 - that's really useful. I knew that the seller isn't supposed to fill out the export section but couldn't find anything on selling overseas. Here's hoping that he turns up with a suitcase full of cash.

  8. No - Bankers drafts can be faked and it can take a little while to find out, by which time the car is long gone. I know - it does happen. I try to be optimistic but I'm a miserable git at heart No one is getting the car until the bank tell me that the money is secure there is no way the money can be reversed.
  9. Hi All, I'm currently selling my Zed and have had the usual quota of scam emails offering just under the asking price which have all politely been told to do one. However, one guy who has been emailing me about the car (wanted chassis number, photo of headlights to show if they are ok for Europe, etc..) has now booked to travel over from France to see the car. To preempt advice on scammers I've told him that I'm not getting involved in export arrangements / costs and to me it'll be a uk sale in £ by CHAPS or cash at the bank who can then check it for me, all of which he has agreed to with without question. He may not buy the car, but just so I'm ready, is there anything different I need to do when selling to a non UK resident? Do I just fill out the V5 with a French address and kiss it goodbye?? There are various bits of advice on the DVLA site for exporting cars but I cant find anything that specifically talks about this scenario. Any thoughts welcome. Regards, Mike
  10. Granted, but is HPI UK only? I assume that he's planning to export it if he's looking for a certificate of conformity. You guys are generally thinking what I was thinking - you can see the VIN on the car so what harm can it do? You cant get any personal information from it (I think). It just seems odd that he hasn't asked for the reg, just the VIN. Suppose it's not as if he's after the serial number on the V5... Why is selling cars never straightforward! Thanks, Mike
  11. Hi, I am reluctantly selling my Zed bad times! Usual story - shrinking wallet and growing family means I need more seats and more MPG! Anyway, I'm being emailed by a chap (seems French but could be anywhere) who is asking questions about the car and now wants the VIN so that he can get a certificate of conformity. Is there any reason not to give it out? It's displayed on the car anyway, I'm just not sure how much information you can get hold of with a VIN... I may be paranoid but Pistonheads seems to attract scammers. Just waiting for him to ask me to get a quote to export - seems to be the usual pattern from previous experience - which is the point at which I tell him to eff off. Ta, Mike
  12. Ok, hopefully not as daft a question as it sounds - It's a 56 350Z GT with the updated interior (no flappy cover for the satnav) but is there an easy way to tell which BHP it is - 280 or 300?? Either by year, engine number, taking the previous owners word for it? The red line is at 7K and I think on some earlier models it's around 6.5k - has that got something to do with it? Thanks in advance for both the help and (justified) verbal kicking
