The eagle eyed amongst you will no doubt have spotted Stew and Mike's (xstric9x) names appearing in green. Both of the above have graciously accepted the invitation to become part of the 350z-uk.com team, and we would like to welcome them both on board. We have seen a masive growth in the popularity of the forum, and the recruitment of more moderators is necessary given the increased posting levels we are seeing (near 5,000 per week). Please be gentle with them Welcome aboard Stew and Mike

I really like that idea. Will add that to the list of things to investigate/address. As for 10,000 posts - I havent got to that many yet, and I was the first to join on New Years Eve 2005. Though I suppose building and joining a web forum on New Years Eve would be a suitable substitute for post count in order to gain entry to the Sad B***ards club wouldnt it?

The rules are here for a reason as stated previously. You would be surprised at how many people suddenly manage to find this forum and the time to register/post when they have items/cars for sale. The website itself costs a fair amount of money each year to run, and we have also started discounted entry to shows etc - all paid for from either donations made by members, or fees paid by traders. We do not charge our members a fee, and run the site on more or less a shoestring, the team themselves having funded the site with hundreds of pounds of their own money for the first couple of years. In return for the members donations and traders fees, we have restricted the posting of adverts to those who have at least made some contribution over time - hence the posting requirements. We know that sometimes this may be an annoyance to some, but it is done with the best interests of our members in mind. Hopefully most will be understanding in this respect.

New forum discussion
Chesterfield replied to Chesterfield's topic in Forum IT Issues & Bug Reporting
That cant be changed so easily, so will probably not be altered. As we already have quote a bit of stuff below the actual header image/main links, a further addition below would start to push items like the forums themselves further down the page, which would contribute to the "psaced out" look that is the biggest change for most. Am still working on the suggestions of: adding thread category to another column on the search results pages changing display of pagination menu at the top and bottom to make it clearer which page you are on adding link to portal to main logo image at the top There are other major additions to the site being worked upon as well, but the above list are the little niggles on that are to be adressed in the process. -
Yup - Adam is where I sourced mine from.

Yep - Pilot error in creating the group for testing - should be fixed now -

Yep - there is a problem with this, well, not a problem - the page is being displayed as designed, but I agree that the design needs changing to give a clearer indication. -

Both good points - will take a look. By main page, do you mean the portal, or the forum index? -
I believe the answer is yes. It also logs oil temps and transmission temps - apparently if the transmission fluid temperature exceeds a certain level for a certain length of time this will also require a change at the post track inspection time, again all required to keep the warranty apparently.

Glad you like it. There are still a few bits to sort out on the layout of a few pages, and some additions in the pipeline which are almost complete, hopefully wont be too long. -
Thats one of the most significant points. People have their cars sat at home now, and still dont know what the service cost is going to be less than 6 months from now. How ridiculous is that? The track day sums as far as wear and tear components will be fairly similar between the Porsche and the GTR I would think. The issue is that only one of those manufacturers appears to be insisting on a mandatory inspection after each track day at a ridiculous cost in order to keep your warranty. And even these costs havent been confirmed either. Nobody is saying that the GTR was expected to be cheap to run at all, but as it was pitched against the 911 Turbo from the off, one would have expected running costs in line with the 911 also. As it stands its getting on for double, and fast approaching Ferrari and V12 Lambo territory. Why so? Even people who can afford the costs have a right to say they are ridiculous dont they?

From this document: I get the costs for 24 months to over £5800 inc VAT if requiring a set of discs and pads all round. I would think though, to get through a set of discs and pads in that time will take some doing wont it? I would suppose a few track days will mean the change is necessary though. But then I hear you have to pay £800 for a "post track" inspection in oredr to keep your warranty in tact. At just two track days a year that bumps the costs to over £9,000 for two years. I would hope Ive done my sums wrong, as that just seems plain bloody stupid. Chuck in the final year, where the service jumps to a massive £1,200 + VAT thanks to some bizzarely expensive air filter, another two track days and the three year costs I get to are north of £12,000 I would assume that given the noise that has been made about the cars track perfomance, that Nissan expect some customers to at least venture near a track. Though I see there has been somewhat less promotion surrounding the compulsory (if you want a warranty) post track inspection costs. Something which the targetted rivals dont appear to have.

Chesterfield replied to marzman's topic in Site Suggestions & Feedback
Im not aware of any issues with the unread posts links. Due to how busy this board is becoming (over 4,500 posts in one week), we have added a few different ways of viewing posts. There are now several ways of viewing posts depending on what you want to see - it may be that you clicked one rather than the other.... 1. View Unanswered posts: This allows you to view all posts/topics to which nobody has ever replied. 2. View Active Topics: This shows you the topics which have had activity within the last XX period (this period is default 7 days, but can be changed as you wish at the bottom of the page) 3. View New Posts: This shows you any new/unread posts since your last visit to the site. 4. View Unread Posts: This shows you all unread topics/posts regardless of your last visit time 5. View Your Posts: This shows any topics which you have contributed to. They will show as unread if there is activity since your last logon. I hope this helps Another contributing factor if this issue has only been seen a couple of times, is that when I am working on the site, sometimes I need to flush the sites cache (this caches various items including sql results for recent searches), it may well be that I have flushed the cache at the same moment you were performing an unread posts search which could have caused the issue, and the thread then pops up again in your unread posts when there has been another relpy. I do try to keep this to a minimum, but it depends on timing, and it may just be pure bad luck that I happen to do it at the time you click your unread posts button. -
Actually - the PM button can be removed on a per user basis...
-
I think there is a certain train of thought that without Ron, Mclaren may have a fairer time of it from Max.....
-
Care to elaborate? The PM button may have gone walkabouts briefly earlier as I was refreshing the cache on the template (busy working on the next new addition to the site). Everything should work fine. One thing to remember is that you can only have 300 messages in your inbox on this software - if you have more than that, you will not receive new PM's (but you will be notified tht your inbox is full and you need to make room). If the person you send a PM to has more than 300, then they will not get your message until they make room. Make room by moving your messages to other folders, or creating your own folders to store messages in. Hope that helps

Yup - we are hoping to get a better gallery up and running shortly. We had to move to a new server, with new software in order to satisfy the demand that was being placed on the site. This will also require a whole new gallery section to be built. We want to make sure its user friendly too, as the old one could be a bit of a pig really. Hopefully it shouldnt be too long

Im going to go the splinters in backside route and sit on the fence regarding the GTR until real world reviews and ownership experiences in the UK have come out. Although I cant take anything away from its performance, I do have reservations over how this translates to customer owenership outside of the glitzy world of the press. For the moment Im just glad Im not sitting ona £55k Nissan in todays economic climate. I would have thought there is a very real chance of negative equity on these for those on finance if the depreciation is severe enough. Its great to see them finally hitting our roads, and monetary and service issues aside, Id love to drive one. Its just not for me right now.
-
But try to replicate any of these feats whereby they beat the othercars and your warranty does a houdini. Strange then that the car they aimed it at (911 Turbo) appears to have running/servicing costs getting on for half that of the GT-R. Exactly what are the front brake pads made of to warrant £821 +VAT ? Unicorn horn and mammoth tusk? I suppose thats to be expected given the £388 + Vat cost of the transmission fluid every 18,000 miles. (porsches auto box at 120,000 miles) Thats obviously made of sweat from a cuban cigar rollers thigh and blue whale bluber).

I use a Poorboys waffle weave, its excellent! Makes the job so much quicker.

Its all model dependant. From my research, you will almost certainly pay a premium on Yellow Gallardos - even if they are one of the most popular/common colours along with Black. I dont think the Orange necesarily commands a premium, other than the fact there are less made and therefor you wont get the same variation with sellers (if there are less orange owners, there will be less oranges being sold by people who need the cash fast) the sellers are not necessarily pricing them higer because of the colour. The price variation on the same colour same year can be several £K, it all depends on what the seller decides to put their car up for. You can pick orange ones up for the same money as yellows and blacks now. You could possibly still sell orange Gallardos for more than the other colours, but as previously acknowledged, the audience will be smaller, and the speed at which it sells may be drastically affected by that. Also, look at Ferrari - Red is by far and above the most common colour, so logic would dictate that it should be the cheapest, yet you can pay anything up to a £10k+ premium for the same model, same year, same milage car, just because it is in Red. I have always fallen into the camp that believe certain models/brands should be bought in certain colours. Ferraris should be red, Lamborghini's should be yellow, dodge vipers should be blue with white stripes and so on.... The Z in my opinion doesnt have this stigma, and therefor the quality of the car will have far more say in its sale price than the colour. /2p

I know what you mean, but i just feel nissan went about it all the wrong way. As much as i love it, it is still a nissan and not a ferrari as such and to have costs that are equal or in fact slightly more than a "supercar" i feel is wrong. It was the complete uncertainty about running costs that stopped me from ordering, that and the fact for some still unknown and bizzare reason, you cant order a red car with the black and red leather in the UK. I find it just crazy that there are cars being delivered to customers and still there is no definitive list of servicing costs, just tentative. The car itself has been pitched as a track car from the off by Nissan, with the shouting about ring times, even going as far as handing cars over at 7:29 to comemorate the ring time. Yet take it near a track and you need to hand over several hundred quid for a post track inspection if you want to keep your warranty. You may as well rename the VDC switch "warranty" for all the good the off position is, and the costs of servicing over 36000 miles make the 911 turbo look positively cheap to run!

Designed and Manufactured by Downforce Racing my arse. Its a copy of the GReddy one that several of us have fitted. If you like that lip, stick with the original GReddy part.
