All OBDII readers work with all EU cars after 1998(?). It works fine on my 350Z.

Just make sure it's at least version 1.5

I diagnosed 1147 with it using Torque app on my Android phone.

EDIT:

OBD Compliance

In 1996 in the United States, a Federal Law came into force requiring all US-sold cars to be OBD2 compliant. Most OBD2 vehicle diagnostic tools are therefore advertised as working with all cars from 1996 (OBD2).

The OBD2 Federal Law applied only to cars sold in the US.

In the UK and the rest of Europe, our equivalent law (European On-Board Diagnostics, or EOBD) did not come into force, and more importantly, was not fully implemented by our car manufacturers, until 2001 for petrol cars (2003/4 for diesels).

Due to this it is difficult to know exactly what European vehicles are OBD2 compliant before the above dates and we recommend checking with your dealer before purchasing equipment for cars manufactured before 2001 Petrol and 2004 Diesel.

Even where a seemingly identical car may have been sold in Europe and the US before 2001, from our own testing and research, it is rarely the case that the European model will be OBD2 / EOBD compliant.

All Cars sold from 2008 use the CAN-Bus protocol.

Okay so the error code was p1217 and the one fan engages with the air con. So thermostat fan or rad switch? Booked in to find out what

It will be the fan motor.

Alex. :)

And what are we suggesting for the fix then guys? The new fan shroud from tarmac?

As others have said the likely cause is the fans not working. When the car is running and comes up to working temperature you should see one of the fans start to work, if not then it's probably had it. The other fan works when the A/c is turned on so you can check that by turning that on when the cars running.

Some members have taken their fan motors apart and cleaned them/replaced parts but usually this is just a temporary fix. Link: http://www.350z-uk.c...rs-youtube-vid/

Alternatively you could get a good used set of OEM fans from zmanalex on here or from one of the other members/traders that are currently breaking 350Z's.

Another alternative is to take the opportunity to upgrade at a cost more reasonable than the OEM parts from Nissan. As Jumping350 mentioned you can get the Mishimoto fan shroud which Clark Motorsport, Tarmac Sportz and others sell on here.

Link to Tarmacs fans although PM him for best delivered price; http://www.tarmacspo...S-350Z-03_.aspx

Good luck.

P01217 relates to engine over temp , however the control system is assessed by engine RPM, road speed, coolant temp and air con switch and pressure, and in turn controlled by the IDPM and fan switch relays, but as said will most likely be down to the fan motors, so if only one is not working it can be removed and cleaned/refurbed which is fine if you want a cheap fix, or replaced with SH £60, or new, which is in the region of £200+ ,or replace with the aftermarket fan setup.

Okay so afrer toying about with it all we checked the relays. This has made the air con work! So decided my first port of call would be to change them all as one of them smelt burnt.

Can't find them anywhere however!! Is anybody aware of any zed breakers?

just a quick update... after running through all of the electronics the next thing to check was the fan motors. removed and cleaned and... voila! problem solved! thank you for all of your help fellas!

As most said ~ "it will mostly likely be the fans" so you could have saved some time by just doing that in the first place.

Either way great news that it's all sorted.
