Darren350 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Hey guys, When I first bought my 2004 350 I fuelled it to the brim with tesco Momentum (Their premium unleaded). It has drove just fine on it but I was wondering if it's really worth the extra money or if I'm being conned? Can you run a 350z on just standard cheap tesco unleaded or am I best sticking the good stuff in? Thanks in advance! Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Quote
Desey Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Put it this way - if you put the cheap stuff in your engine will explode Your not being conned Quote
ioneabee Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) There's masses of discussion on this - search and you will find - but..............the car is "designed" to run on 97 ron or higher .....'nough said Edited February 11, 2014 by ioneabee Quote
WhackyWill Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 A big NO NO running a Zed on cheap fuel... 1 Quote
chirag1988 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 As above Momentum or shell nitro +1 I only use Shell V Power Nitro in mine - racking up the double points on my Shell Card 3 Quote
Humpy Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I put diesel in my Zed, is this not correct either.... 6 Quote

Will370z Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I remember a number of people on here raising issues with tesco momentum fuel too. I know it says its 99 but some were saying that it varies between 92 and 99. I use v-power Quote
brillomaster Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 i'm running mine on a combination of tabasco sauce and vodka - burns going in and burns again on the way out! Quote
mattfinch Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Only run mine on v-power, Even though its a bit more its much better for the engine and performance Quote
Scootg Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 V-Power or Tesco Momentum (when I have a coupon for 5p per litre off!) If I HAVE to, I've stuck BP Ultimate in there. But it's 97RON and is overpriced garbage. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk Pro. Quote
mattfinch Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 And the double points with v-power are good as said above. When you get enough you get your own red points card with your name on it Quote

I would strongly advise against running the Zed on 95RON fuel or standard unleaded fuel as common practice. Manufacturers recommendation is to run on 97/98 RON or 'Super Unleaded' for a reason. I have I think once, when unforeseen circumstances have dictated, put £5 / £10 of standard unleaded fuel in the Zed. Only enough to get me to the next petrol station providing VPower or Super unleaded, where I could fill up to the brim with Super Unleaded. I fuel with VPower as standard and occasionally Tesco Momentum, I do not think its worth taking the risk of potential engine damage on the basis of saving a few pennies. Quote
Scott TMN Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I always use BP super unleaded, wouldn't relax in the knowledge that Iv put the cheaper stuff in after seeing some discussions on here. Quote
The Bounty Bar Kid Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/56308-what-can-happen-if-you-run-your-zed-on-95-ron/ I was at Abbey today and Tony showed me a piston from a 350 (sorry don't remember the year) that had been run almost exclusively on 95 Ron unleaded fuel, please don't do it guys, it's going to hurt your engine AND your wallet eventually................... ~edited to make clear this was use of 95 Ron almost exclusively 1 Quote
The Bounty Bar Kid Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 12000 miles a year will cost you £110 extra in v power vs normal shell petrol. Are people really that cheap? Thats on the assumption of 20mpg. 2 Quote
WhackyWill Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 My local Shell Dealer sells Rally 101 at the pump..its rocket fuel, every 10 fill ups or so I get a tank of it with a can of Injector Clean as well. Zed loves it. Quote
chubbster Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Hi Darren - in addition to what everyone else has said, don't forget that you also get better fuel consumption from higher octane fuel, so the price differential ends up being almost nil (I did the maths a few years ago). Plus, as I'm not as polite as the rest - why on earth did you buy a racehorse if you're thinking about giving it cattle food? 4 Quote
Darren350 Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 To be honest I don't do many miles and can afford to put decent fuel in, but was wondering if the Standard Unleaded Vs Momentum was just a Tesco scam. Tesco is about 1/4 mile away from my house so if the Momentum is decent enough then brilliant. If I need to put something better in then the advice is always welcome. Also, I have just filled the tank to the brim once again with the Momentum, is it a good idea to drop some injector cleaner in? I assume so so will get some tomorrow. Thanks guys!
